Once I knew how to spell the name of the show right, you'd be surprised about
how many sites there are dedicated to this show!! There are some better ones
out there than the one I just sent. I recommend that you just search for
"Kidd Video" to get them......
Is it obvious that I have nothing better that I need to be doing? : )

I don't ever remember seeing Kid Video, but I was watching another episode of
Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years this morning. I acquired a
copy of the series over Christmas Break. During the end credits, the
announcer said that Kid Video was coming up next. I thought that was pretty
cool. At the end of previous episodes, I heard announcements for My Little
Pony & Friends, the Dennis the Menace Cartoon, and the Smurfs. I thought it
was cool to hear those announcements. :-)

I remember Kid Video and Wildfire....
I used to watch those shows all the time...I loved the video at the end of
each Kid Video show....I don't remember too much about them other than what
you said. I would also like to know more about them if any body can find any
more info on them.
I'll try and see if I can dig up some more stuff on them somewhere...

hi,
these are two old saturday morning cartoons from about 15 years ago. i haven't
been able to find anything about them on the internet, so if anyone could help
me out i'd really appreciate it. the first was called kid vidoe. the premise
was that a bad guy transported a rock group in a bubble to a cartoon. i think
they had a fairy to help them. the goal was to get home. each episode ended
with a music video. the second was called wildfire, i thnk. it was about a
white (?) horse named wildfire that would transport a this girl to this
alternate realm. the mother, who died (?), was like the queen or something
there, which is why the girl was taken there occasionally. i cannot remember
any more than this about them and would appreciate any info. thanks

I checked up on it, and that isn't the one, because it's not old enough. The
series I remember seeing was on television in the early 80's, perhaps even
before Voltron hit the air waves.

Robotech is actually made up of three different series, Macross, Southern
Cross, and Genesis. The "combining several series into one" is a typical
Carl Macek strategy. He did the same thing with Space Pirate Captain Harlock
and Queen Millenia, creating the series called Captain Harlock and the Queen
of a Thousand Years. I'm not sure about the Genesis part; let me know if I'm
wrong. I know the Macross part ended with the Zentraedi being defeated by
Minmay's singing. Her singing had some kind of strange effect on them. When
I had the opportunity to see the end of Southern Cross (at least it was the
end on Cartoon Network), the Invid were about to invade Earth, but Cartoon
Network never showed it. I barely remember the third part, Genesis (I think
it's called), at all. I guess Southern Cross could be a sequel of sorts to
Macross, since the main character is Max Sterling and Miria Farina's
daughter, Dana Sterling, the girl with the short blonde hair.
When Heather mentioned the anime character with green hair that was crying,
it reminded me of Musica (sp?), a character in the Southern Cross saga of
Robotech. She had two sisters, and they were a trilogy of sorts, dependent
upon each other. They were Invid. Musica fell in love with one of Dana's
friends, and she left her sisters to join him. If anyone would like to see
an image of Musica, I could capture one from my Robotech tapes.

There were three arcs:
macross (rick hunter and crew)
Southern Cross (dana sterling and crew)
New Generation (Scott bernard and the invid)
Robotech pretty much ended in NG (and hte EArth pretty much screwed up)
no confusion acutally if since it was the culmiatnio of 3 absolutely
different anime series into one story line (kind of dumb no?)
I partially remember Robotech. Later on I lost the storyline somehow, it
all became a bit confusing towards the end, finally the series was stopped,

Do any of you know you remember seeing a certain show growing up, but you
just faintly remember the storyline and characters and don't know how to
explain it to someone else so he could tell you what the show is? It's
really frustrating, as I'm having that problem now with a show I watched in
the 80's.
When I first started seeing posts on a Bulletin Board (The Sci-Fi Channel's
BBoard to be precise) about Star Blazers, I thought that this series was the
one I was remembering, but when I saw some of the tapes, none of the
characters or the story seemed familiar to me.
In the show I'm remembering, the battleship starts out in the series being
seaworthy, but later on it's converted to a space battleship. The Yamato (or
Argo) started out as being the remains of a WWII battleship before it was
converted into a space battleship. The characters in the series I'm
remembering all wore white uniforms, and I think the captain of the ship was
this girl's father. Yuki (Nova) is the main female character in Star
Blazers, but none of the captains was her father.
So, what do you guys think? If there are any shows you're having a hard time
remembering exactly what they were, try posting something about them to the
list, and maybe one of us will know something about it! If you can help me
with this show, I'd be most grateful!
Have a good night, everyone! I'm looking forward to some good, stimulating
discussion! :-)

Yeah, kids' television in general has really gone downhill. In the 80's we
had Voltron, and in the 90's, the kids have Power Rangers. Voltron is
definitely cooler. The series went a little overboard with the recycled
frames, but the show had good characters and good story. The Power Rangers
is just plain stupid, not to mention fake. Yeah, those rubber monsters look
really scary and hard to beat!

Hey everybody!! I have to agree with Sarah when I say that Nickelodeon has
gone down the drain since the 80s. Remember those great gameshows they used
to have in addition to the cartoons? Who can forget Double Dare? I used to
love Nickelodeon. The cartoons that they have now are all loud and
obnoxious. For example "Ren and Stimpy." Need I say more. What happened to
all of those great cartoons? Do you ever wonder who it was that decided
these cartoons they have on now would be better? Even Saturday mornings
aren't worth watching anymore. It isn't just Nickelodeon that's gone down
the drain.... I think The Cartoon Network is definitely more cool. It would
be cool if they would at least dedicate a weekend to all of those 80s
cartoons we love so much. Maybe we should get a petition going on that while
we're trying to get an entire station dedicated to it. I know I would
definitely watch it!!!!
The 80's were the greatest!!!
Later,
Christie

Yeah, we should definitely get together a list of shows that should be aired
on the channel. Let me know what you think about the website idea. We could
put the list up on the web and have people come vote for the show(s) they'd
like to see on the channel. They should also be able to add shows to the
list. We could also have a petition for visitors to sign, saying they'd like
to see a classic toons television network emerge. The main problem, in my
mind, is finding companies to target. I'm thinking this can be done; after
all, there's a television network for classic live-action television,
Nick-at-Nite's TV Land! We just need to convince one or more companies that
there is sufficient viewer demand for such a channel.
You can find a list of some of my favorite 80's toons in the list archives.
I think you'll find the list in Digest 0. I would like those shows to find
their way onto the channel at some point. The shows don't have to be just
80's shows. Maybe some of you can remember shows from the 70's and before
that would be great for the channel. How many of you have seen Astro Boy?
:-) Also, maybe for late nite television, they could show older Japanese
animated series, subtitled!
Let me know what you guys think.

hey sarah --
im not really sure if there is a protocol here on your 'old toons list,' but
youve been asking for opinions and ideas, etc., so im going to take some
initiative and activate some dialogue.
as far as im concerned, you are completely right about nickelodeon. another
lifetime ago (or ten years...whatever works for you), their shows were of a
quality programming type. i used to watch the mysterious cities of gold,
belle and sebastien, sparticus and a handful of others. it was great
television. what i liked best about the programs that were offered is that
they didnt underestimate the intelligence of their viewers. nick was a
channel designed specifically for children, and yet the many series showcased
were often historically accurate and written with intelligent dialogue and
story lines. thats why i loved the mysterious cities of gold over all other
shows. i actually learned something while i was enjoying television! i
mean, there were those dreaded times when my mother went on the
educational-television-only trips (im sure your mom went through the same
stages). even when she was on one of her trips, she never hesitated to let
me watch those shows. those shows taught the children who watched them to
love history and love morality and love humanity, and all those other
wonderful aspects of childrens programming that are void from cartoons
nowadays. you were right when you said nickelodeon has sold out. i dont
watch many cartoons now because of that. ill watch my cities of gold tapes,
or just sit in front of the television and complain about the quality of
children's programming. so, with that in mind, i cant really tell you which
i like better - nick or cartoon network.
on the other hand, im pretty good with people. im not sure who we should
contact about creating a cartoon channel for classic toons, but i do have a
grasp on the way we should present it to them: just like you said on your
webpage...a channel to inspire children, etc. a channel that respects
children and doesn't underestimate their respective intelligences. something
like 'classic nickelodeon' or 'classic whatever and what have you.'
something that would air 24 television shows with morality and history, and
nothing like ren-and-stimpy or cow-and-chicken and all those other slapstick
snotty-nosed potty-language shows where one of the pathetically-sketched
two-dementional "characters" always end up in grossness and yuckiness. (i
think snot is the body ooze of choice).
im SURE we could find some wealthy ominous business somewhere who would
finance any effort a group of well-minded teens and 20-somethings wanted to
make to improve the quality of childrens programming. you know? i mean, if
youre willing to go that extra mile and find someone to sponsor you, it
wouldnt be so hard to create a channel. just some simple networking.
we could volunteer to make the schedule.
okay, honestly...i have no idea what im talking about. im not quite 19 years
old, and im pretty tired right now and have just been rambling for a while
now, and im sure ive spelled every other word wrong. so, with that in mind,
let me know what you think. maybe we can do some prelim work on this list.
you know, come up with a list of shows that we would air, etc etc etc.
im done for now, so let me know. and thank you for taking the initiative to
put this list together. i am a child of the 80s, and i agree with you...it
was a better time for kids. (at least in terms of childrens television).
thanks very much

Greetings, everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend.
I was wondering last night which entertainment company would most likely add
a cable channel devoted to classic cartoons. I checked out Viacom and
Turner
Broadcasting last night. Viacom wouldn't be a good choice, in my opinion,
because they own Nickelodeon. We all know what happened to THAT channel...
Turner Broadcasting owns Cartoon Network, which is an infinitely better
channel than Nickelodeon, in my opinion. I don't get Cartoon Network where
I
live, unfortunately. I get to watch it sometimes when I'm at school or when
I'm in Hamilton, GA. I wouldn't think that Turner would add a channel that
would compete with Cartoon Network. Do you guys know of any other companies
we could check out?
Okay, I'm going to try to get a discussion going here, so that we can all
start talking and getting to know each other. None of my other previous
tactics have worked. :-P
Which children's network do you like better, Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network?
As I stated above, I like Cartoon Network much better than Nickelodeon.
Cartoon Network has aired some of my favorite shows from the 80's, including
Voltron and Robotech. Toonami is actually a pretty cool programming block,
and I hope they'll show a lot more of the older Japanese animated shows.
They air a lot of the older shows like the Flinstones and Scooby Doo, which
is totally awesome. Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast can be pretty funny as well.
Nickelodeon is no longer the great channel it was years ago, when it aired
Mysterious Cities of Gold and Spartacus and the Sun Beneath the Sea. A lot
of their new shows are really dumb, like All That and CatDog. The quality
of
the programming on Nickelodeon has really gone downhill, in my opinion.
Let your thoughts be known! Have a good night!

I just wanted to inform you guys of this favorite television show poll.
Mysterious Cities of Gold was on the list. You can find your favorite
cartoon from the 80's and vote for it, or you can vote for one of the many
others on the list. I don't know if you can add shows to the list or not; I
didn't get to look at the site that much...
I may try to add a poll like this to the mailing list page, where people may
vote for their favorite 80's cartoon. You guys can help me compile a
complete list of 80's cartoons. That'd be pretty cool, you think? :-)
Have a good weekend, everyone!

hi sarah,
i joined this list after getting the email from you. for the record,
i am a very big voltron fan and have a website (badly in need of
updating) at http://www.tcnj.edu/~chamber2/voltron.html. i also
watched way too much toonage in the 80's and am familiar with many of
the shows mentioned in the description. hope to get some great mail
about this soon.

What do you guys think of developing a website to promote a 24/7 classic
toons channel? I figure we could all input our ideas and develop it
together. We could have a poll where visitors could vote for the show(s)
they would most like to see on the channel, have them sign a petition, and
the like. I have the hardware to make images from my old tapes. I should
have episodes on tape from at least most of the series/movies I listed in my
last message. I also have a scanner. I have the capabilities to create WAV
sounds, but the files created aren't very high-quality. Maybe one of you
guys, at least, can produce WAV files well?
Let me know what you think of my ideas, and add some of your own. Also,
don't forget to send your introductory message, sharing a little about
yourself and your favorite toons from the 80's! :-)
I look forward to hearing from you! Have a good night!

Hi! I want to thank all of you for subscribing to the list! I hope you guys
will enjoy the discussions.
I thought I would start off by introducing myself. I'm Sarah Trammell. I'm
a 22-year-old college student, about to graduate. Yippee! I have my first
interview tomorrow; keep your fingers crossed! :-) I hope to have another
interview in the works soon.
I'm a really big fan of animation, anime in particular. Here's a list of
some of my favorite titles from the 80's (both cartoons and anime):
Voltron
Robotech
Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years
Tranzor Z
Thundercats
My Little Pony & Friends
Inspector Gadget
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Captain Future
Defenders of the Earth
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
Pole Position
C.O.P.S.
Spartacus and the Sun Beneath the Sea
Gobots
Warriors of the Wind
These are the only titles that I could think of off the top of my head. I'm
sure that there are others I enjoyed watching as well. I probably didn't
watch them as often as I did the ones I listed above.
What are your favorite animated shows from the 80's? What is your biggest
pet peeve about animated shows of this decade? One of the things that
bothers me about the shows of this decade is how unintelligent, stupid, and
gross they are. Compare Ren & Stimpy to some of your favorite shows growing
up, and you'll see what I mean, unless you really like Ren & Stimpy.
Sometimes, the show can actually be funny, but it's not something I'd want my
kids watching. I'll let my children watch all of the videos of my favorite
shows I've managed to collect.
If any of you know how to get support to get a cable channel started, start
pitching in some ideas! It would be great to have a channel dedicated to
classic toons 24-7 on the air. Nickelodeon came pretty close to this, but
alas, it had to start making its own stupid shows...
Well, that's all for now. I look forward to hearing from you! Have a great
night, everyone!
Sarah
