"Charles E. Carlson" <ccarlson@...> wrote:
Biofuels will not feed the hungry
Financial Times, London  Mar 27, 2008
Biofuels will not feed the hungry, The London Times article states: "But the biggest structural change is biofuels. In the space of a few years, the US has diverted about 40m tonnes of maize to produce bioethanol - about 4 per cent of global production of coarse grains. That rapid growth is largely the result of subsidies - which must halt. The environmental benefits of maize biofuel are ambiguous at best and it should not be favoured over growing maize for food... "Cuts to food production subsidies, most notably in the EU, will also have a permanent effect on supply...'
Editor CE adds- We are grateful to the author and agree with the substance of the prestigious London Financial Times article: Biofuels are a silent killer.  However, we must correct an important detail; the destruction of food is on an order of magnitude worse than the Times' statistics state.
Our own story last September entitled Corn-to-Ethanol: US Agribusiness Magic Path To A World Food Monopoly, quoted The Renewable Fuel Association, a trade organization of big agribusinesses, which lists 129 existing plants, and with 76 more under construction. It projects the total production capacity at a staggering 13,429 billion gallons of ethanol every year. To make this much 90-proof alcohol, some five billion bushels of corn have to be burned per year.  Worse yet is a new law signed on Dec 19, 2007, which subsidizes the destruction of upward to 14 billion bushels of corn (maize in Europe) to produce 35 billon gallons of alcohol per year. This pencils out to be as much as 40% of the US corn crop!
The ethanol abuse is so great that it can be understated by a factor of 10 and still shock readers. The Times may be the first big paper anywhere to correctly demand: 'That rapid growth is largely the result of subsidies - which must halt.'   WHTT says: in the interst of humanity, ban all ethanol subsidies, and recall every Congressmen who resist!
U.S. employee killed in Baghdad's Green Zone
Assocated Press, Martin Crutshinger  Mar 27, 2008
Editor CE- The numbers tell us why the US,  and our puppet Maliki government, is hated by all sides and sects in Iraq: This AP story confirms what we all know: "Precise Iraqi casualties are not known but the widely cited human rights group Iraq Body Count said this month that up to 89,300 civilians have been killed since 2003.
"Editor CE adds: In a related AP story we learn: "Tens of thousands of Sadr supporters marched in Baghdad in a massive show of force for the cleric, demanding Maliki's removal. In the vast Sadr City slum, named after the cleric's slain father, crowds of angry men chanted slogans... "We demand the downfall of the Maliki government. It does not represent the people. It represents Bush and Cheney," marcher Hussein Abu Ali said... The slum of 2 million people is in a virtual state of siege... "We are trapped in our homes with no water or electricity since yesterday. We can't bathe our children or wash our clothes," said a resident who gave his name as Mohammed. AND "President George W. Bush praised Maliki's "boldness" in launching the operation and said it showed the Iraqi leader's commitment to "enforce the law in an even-handed manner."
Public Must Pay for Wall Street Rescues
Torres & Tyson, Bloomberg.com  Mar 26, 2008
Taxpayers May Be Liable For Bear Stearns Mortgage Rescue:  "In an emergency action that jeopardizes the dividend it pays the Treasury, the Fed authorized a $29 billion loan against illiquid mortgages - and asset-backed securities from Bear Stearns that will be held in a Delaware corporation.  JPMorgan Chase & Co. contributed $1 billion... The Delaware corp will liquidate the assets over 10 years, with JPMorgan absorbing the first $1 billion in losses, with the Fed bearing any that remain. Any such losses would hurt the Fed's balance sheet, and ultimately the taxpayer, because they would reduce the stipend the Fed pays to the Treasury from earnings on its portfolio. The dividend was $29 billion in 2006."
"Editor CE rejects this- What this story fails to say is that the public (not only taxpayers) is libable for every dollar the FED loans or gives away, including this $30 billion and all the other trillions on the FED's books. Why, because the FED has no money of its own, it does not need money because it can create bank deposits for itself and its banker friends out of electrons over a wire.  All FED loans and gifts dilute the money in our pockets and in our bank accounts.  The FED pretends to be clean by giving the treasury the interest it collects on the treasury bond the FED buys from our treasury with dollars of its own creation.  Why else would they give back the interest?

Governor Mark Sanford said that he WAS NOT asking for an extension to "comply" with Real ID travesty
Here is the video, that I made at Governor Mark Sanford's press conference:

Governor Mark Sanford said that he WAS NOT asking for an extension.
Gov. Sanford's letter to Chertoff can be read here:
Governor Mark Sanford called the bluff of DHS, and now they are trying to save face...
...by "GRANTING"  an extension anyway.
News reports can be seen here:
We do not need an extension.
The feds need us more than we need them.
The feds can just close all of their buildings, and sell them to private businesses.
Gee, It is really going to be tough losing our right to be audited by the IRS.
Well, maybe they could rent a motel room for doing those audits,
since we would not be allowed to come into their buildings.
They could use the revenues, from selling those buildings,
to make up for the tax revenue, that they would lose,
if we were to stop paying the income tax.
Why should we pay for something that we are not getting?
It has been clear for quite a while that it is a good thing that we do not get as much government as we are paying for.
The difference between theft and taxation is that when a thief takes your money he does not use your money to control your life and business.
Now they threaten us with less government.
We are really scared.
As Brer' Rabbit said "Please don't fling me in that briar patch!"

The South Carolina legislature passed a bill last year stating that we would NOT be complying and Governor Sanford reaffirmed our state's defense of our 10th amendment rights at this morning's press conference.

What part of the Tenth Amendment does Chertoff not understand?
Amendment X - Powers of the States and People.
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Actung! Ve must see your papers!

Thank Governor Mark Sanford for defending liberty here:

POISONING BY CHLORINATED WATER
Joseph G. Hattersley
CHLORINE THE PARADOX
Barrie Carlsen

Let's explore this. When chlorinated water is run through a hose or carried in a pail followed by milk as in a dairy, what happens? "Very tenacious, yellowish deposits chemically similar to arterial plaque" form; with unchlorinated water this does not happen.
CBS' "Sixty Minutes" show July 11, 1992, displayed two laboratory rats, both of them eating standard rat chow and drinking chlorinated water. One rat had clear arteries. The other was also drinking pasteurized, homogenized milk. When the animals were sacrificed and cut open, the arteries of its milk-drinking companions were clogged. A scientist in a white coat winked at the camera and said, "He [the rat he was holding] is the only one doing research on that." The researcher didn't say why, but the powerful dairy and chemical lobbies come to mind.
Dairy buckets and hoses, and rats' arteries resist the arterial-wall damage known as atherosclerosis. But what can chlorinated water and milk, particularly homogenized milk, do to the far more susceptible arteries of humans? The arteries of young chickens are about as susceptible to such damage as people's arteries. Therefore, as a first approximation, J.M. Price, MD gave cockerels (roosters less than a year old) only chlorinated water. They rapidly developed arterial plaques; and the stronger the concentration of chlorine, the faster, and worse the damage. Other cockerels given unchlorinated water developed no such damage.2
The residents of the small town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, had no heart attacks despite a diet rich in saturated animal fats and milk--until they moved away from Roseto's mountain spring water and drank chlorinated water. After that, consuming the same diet, they had heart attacks.2 The Roseto example is dramatic enough, but the needed detailed comparisons and follow-up are not likely to be done.
What is going on here? Highly reactive chlorine is one of the industrial waste products profitably disposed of into us Americans like garbage cans, then on into the environment. Chlorine oxidizes lipid (fatty) contaminants in the water. It thus creates free radicals (highly reactive sub-atomic particles lacking an electron) and oxysterols (formed when lipid molecules combine with oxygen molecules).
We require moderate numbers of both free radicals and oxysterols. The immune system employs free radicals to kill cells that its cellular immune mechanism cannot handle. A second mechanism using free radicals initiates programmed cell death known as apoptosis. Moreover, moderate quantities of oxysterols, like cholesterol itself, serve a protective function. But excess free radicals and excess oxysterols damage arteries and initiate cancer, among many other kinds of harm.
How well does the incidence of heart attacks match the areas where, and times when water is/was chlorinated? Chlorination spread throughout America in the second and third decades of this century, about 20 years before the mushrooming of heart attacks. Light chlorination, we will recall, yielded slow growth of plaques in Price's cockerels; and so chlorination of people's drinking water at the usual low concentration would have been expected to take at least 10-20 years to produce clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. The timing fits, and the Roseto example fits.
A physician team led by William F. Enos autopsied three hundred GIs who had died in battle in the Korean War. These men, who had passed induction examination as healthy, averaged 22.1 years of age; the doctors wondered what they would find. To their shock and amazement, in seventy-seven percent of the 300 they found "gross evidence of arteriosclerosis in the coronary arteries." In several, one or more heart arteries were partly or completely blocked.
Although Dr. Enos did not try to explain his grisly discovery, he assumed arterial clogging had developed gradually. Seeming to support that assumption, almost 20 years later advanced arterial damage was discovered in ninety-six percent of nearly 200 consecutive babies who had died in their first month outside the womb. Two of those babies' coronary arteries were blocked, causing infantile heart attacks.
But did arterial damage in fact develop slowly? The water American soldiers had to drink in Korea was so heavily chlorinated that many could hardly tolerate it. In Vietnam too, autopsies of American solders found heart-artery damage. Again, water supplied to them had been heavily chlorinated. Did much of these soldiers' arterial damage develop, not gradually but quickly as in Dr. Price's cockerels? The truth-slow or rapid development of clogging-may never be known.
Industrial chemist J.P. Bercz, PhD, showed in 1992 that chlorinated water alters and destroys unsaturated essential fatty acids (EFAs), the building blocks of people's brains and central nervous systems. The compound hypochlorite, created when chlorine mixes with water, generates excess free radicals; these oxidize EFAs, turning them rancid.
SIDEBAR: Most Western diets already contain very little of critically needed omega-3 EFAs. These are found in fish oil, better, in flaxseed oil; also in moderate quantity in first-virgin olive oil. These EFAs (except in olive oil) go rancid quickly. Therefore, to extend their products' shelf life food processors remove all health-promoting EFAs while destroying or discarding most needed micronutrients.
Processors substitute either saturated fats or, now, partially hydrogenated trans, transformed fats. Found in all boxed and packaged foods that have long lists of hard-to-pronounce chemical names on the side, trans fatty acids consumed in large quantity can cause heart attacks and many other degenerative diseases.
Cancer-fighting nutrients become deadly when combined with chlorinated tap water. It has been discovered that some of the most valuable nutrients and essential anti-disease phytochemicals form cancer-causing substances when combined with chlorinated tap water. This includes familiar foods like soy, fruits, vegetables, tea, many health products, and even some vitamins.
In addition, chlorine reacts with organic compounds in water to produce trihalomethanes (THMs) such as carcinogenic (cancer originating) chloroform and carbon tetrachloride. It is the combination of chlorine and organic materials already in the water that produces cancer-causing byproducts. The more organic matter in the water, the greater is the accumulation of THMs.
In a study of more than 5,000 pregnant women in the Fontana, Walnut Creek and Santa Clara areas of California, researchers from the state health department found that women who drank more than five glasses a day of tap water that contained over 75 parts per billion of THMs had a 9.5 percent risk of spontaneous abortions, i.e. miscarriage. Women with lower exposure to the contaminants showed 5.7 percent risk. No comparison was given for women who ingested no THMs.
Taking a warm shower or lounging in a hot tub filled with chlorinated water, one inhales chloroform. And worse, warm water opens the pores, causing the skin to act like a sponge, and so one will absorb and inhale more chlorine in a 10-minute shower than by drinking eight glasses of the same water. This irritates the eyes, the sinuses, throat, skin and lungs, makes the hair and scalp dry, worsening dandruff. It can weaken immunity.
A window from the shower room open to the outdoors removes chloroform from the shower room air. But to prevent absorption of chlorine through the skin, a shower-head that removes chlorine from shower water is a must.
SIDEBAR: Chlorine in swimming pools reacts with organic matter such as sweat, urine, blood, feces, mucus, and skin cells to form chloramines. Chloroform risk can be 70 to 240 times higher in the air over indoor pools than over outdoor pools. If the pool smells very much of chlorine, do not go into it.
Canadian researchers found that after swimming for an hour in a chlorinated pool, chloroform concentrations in the swimmers' blood ranged from 100 to 1,093 parts per billion (ppb). Researchers even recorded increases in chloroform concentration in bathers' lungs of about 2.7 ppb after a 10-minute shower in chlorinated water. For many people the intake through those routes is much greater than in water taken orally.
Another issue: There is evidence that adding chlorine, a common process in conventional drinking water treatment plants, makes some pharmaceuticals more toxic.
Studies in Belgium have related development of deadly malignant melanoma to consumption of chlorinated water. Franz H. Rampen, et al., of the Netherlands, state that the worldwide pollution of rivers and oceans and the chlorination of swimming pool water have led to an increase in melanoma. That disease is not associated with exposure to ultraviolet light. People who work indoors all the time, exposed to fluorescent lights, have the highest incidence of melanoma.
Long-term risks of consuming chlorinated water include excessive free radical formation, which accelerates aging, increases vulnerability to genetic mutation and cancer development, causes difficulty metabolizing cholesterol, and promotes hardening of arteries.
Excess free radicals created by chlorinated water also create dangerous toxins in the body. These have been directly linked to liver malfunction, weakening of the immune system and pre-arteriosclerotic changes in arteries (which, as we saw, struck Dr. Price's cockerels and may have happened to American soldiers in Korea and Vietnam). Excess free radicals have been linked also to alterations of cellular DNA, the stuff of inheritance.
Chlorine also destroys antioxidant vitamin E, which is needed to counteract excess oxysterols/free radicals for cardiac and anti-cancer protection.2
Other harm from chlorination. A study in the late 1970s found that chlorinated water appears to increase the risk of gastrointestinal cancer over a person's lifetime by 50 to 100 percent. This study analyzed thousands of cancer deaths in North Carolina, Illinois, Wisconsin and Louisiana. Risk of such cancers results from use of water containing chlorine at or below the E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) standard and "is going to make the E.P.A. standard look ridiculous," stated Dr. Robert Harris, lead scientist in the study.
Later, a meta-analysis found chlorinated water is associated each year in America with about 4,200 cases of bladder cancer and 6,500 cases of rectal cancer. Chlorine is estimated to account for 9 percent of bladder cancer cases and 18% of rectal cancers. Those cancers develop because the bladder and rectum store waste products for periods of time. (Keeping the bowels moving regularly will minimize such risk.) Chlorinated water is also associated with higher total risk of combined cancers. Chlorine in treated water can cause allergic symptoms ranging from skin rash to intestinal symptoms to arthritis, headaches, and on and on.
Why does chlorine in water cause these problems? It destroys protective acidophilus, which nourishes and cooperates with the immunity-strengthening "friendly" organisms lining the colon. In addition, as mentioned earlier, chlorine combines with organic impurities in the water to make trihalomethanes (THMs), or chloramines. The more organic matter, the more THMs; and like excess oxysterols they are carcinogens.
Recently, a joint study was undertaken in Japan by research scientists at the National Institute of Health Sciences and Shizuoka Prefectural University. They determined that natural substances originating from these foods react with chlorinated tap water, forming dangerous compounds, named MX, which stands for "unknown mutagen". They are similar to well-known and more easily detected cancer-causing THMs (trihalomethanes).
In 1997, scientists in Finland determined that MX was 170 times more deadly than other known toxic byproducts of chlorination, and was shown in laboratory studies to damage the thyroid gland as well as to cause cancerous tumors.
The Japanese scientists specifically mentioned that MX is created by the reaction of chlorine with plant phytochemicals such as catechins, which are contained in tea and flavonoids (found in fruit). To make things worse, it is certain that the fresh plant foods we eat react even with the chlorinated tap water we drink with our meals. This means that fresh fruits, cooked and raw vegetables, green tea, black tea, herb teas, soy products, vitamin pills, various health supplements, and even some pharmaceutical drugs, in combination with chlorinated water can all be implicated in cancer. These foods contain a significant amount of phytochemicals including hormones, sterols, fatty acids, polyphenols, and ketones—the subgroups that include flavins, flavonoids, flavones, tannins, catechins, quinones, isoflavones and tocopherols.
These compounds are some of the most valuable and promising anti-cancer nutrients found in our foods and health supplements. Coenzyme Q10 is a quinone, vitamin B-2 is a flavin, vitamin E is a tocopherol, citrus fruit bioflavonoids like hesperidin, quercetin, and rutin are all flavonoids. Green tea contains catechins, phenols, tannins, and isoflavones. Potentially all of these substances, and many more, are subverted by chlorination.
The deadly cancer-causing agents that are produced are extremely toxic in infinitesimal amounts, so small and obscure that they are extremely difficult to detect. Very little chlorine is required. When the concentrations of phytochemicals are high, such as in health supplements or even fruits and vegetables coming from more fertile soil, the deadly combination with chlorination intensifies.
As this message spreads, it will no doubt shake the very foundations of the chlorine and water treatment industries, let alone the government agencies that are implicated along with them. There certainly should be cause for serious alarm within the nutritional supplement and food industries, as well as those segments of the medical industry that might awaken to the problem.
This message is of utmost importance to the public, because chlorine, acid rain, hard water, heavy metals, chemicals, fertilizers, and depleted dead soil will be exposed as major causes and contributors to cancer and degenerative disease; they will also be found to be responsible for damaging the body's immune and hormonal systems by mutating the food-based plant estrogens and phytochemicals that support those systems.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 1,228,600 new cancer cases were expected to be diagnosed in the year 2000. Since 1990, approximately 11 million new cancer cases have been diagnosed, and about 564,000 Americans were expected to die of cancer in 2,000, more than 1,500 people a day.
In the year 2000, about 564,800 Americans were expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S., exceeded only by heart disease.
Breast cancer is epidemic in this country. One in every nine American women will face breast cancer. Every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed, and every 13 minutes, a woman dies from the disease. The American Cancer Society estimated more than 200,000 women would be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, and more than 40,000 would die from the disease. In addition to invasive breast cancer, 61,980 new cases of in situ breast cancer were expected to occur among women during 2006.
It has been known by the water treatment and chemical industries for many years that chlorine reacts negatively with natural organic compounds. These industries call the compounds DBPs (disinfection by-products) and they are known to cause cancer in populations whose drinking water contains them. THM, the most commonly known DBP, causes a high incidence of bladder cancer and causes spontaneous abortion of fetuses.
Chlorine, fluorine, and fluoride are chemically related to iodine and compete with it for assimilation, blocking iodine receptors in the thyroid gland. Dioxin, a dangerous chlorine-related compound found throughout the food chain, is one cause of low thyroid. Rather than feeding the body's endocrine glands, including the thyroid, as nature intended, the hormone-like nutrients found in food are altered by chlorine and turned into mutagens that do permanent damage to the glands. Also, the serious deficiency of valuable phytochemicals in modern diets may be responsible for undernourished hormonal functions in those with otherwise healthy glands.
To help rid yourself of the chlorine in your system and get the intended benefit from your food and nutritional supplements, you may want to try humic extracts (especially fulvic acids), that are said to provide natural chelation properties. Chelation means that the chemicals actually bond with or "pick up" the toxins. They detoxify the liver and the digestive tract by attaching to toxic build-up, including heavy metals and chlorination byproducts, and then disarm, neutralize, and remove these toxins as waste products. Fulvic acids also work as nature's most powerful antioxidants, neutralizing dangerous free radicals, and supplying hormone-stimulating micronutrients.
The chlorine issue should come as no real surprise to any biochemist. Chlorine has been combined with many other normally safe organic substances to form some of the most powerful deadly toxins known, such as dioxin, DDT, and PCBs. The bottom line is that chlorine is the one of the major culprits in disintegrating health, not the substances with which it reacts.
Is there a better substitute for chlorine in water treatment: Yes. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) destroys infectious organisms and impurities in water 4,000 times better than chlorine. Ozone (O3) treatment is equally effective. Eleven hundred cities, worldwide, treat their drinking water with ozone; many have done so since as early as 1901.
To generate ozone, dry air or oxygen is passed through a high-voltage electrical field. Ozone drinking-water treatment in Andover, Massachusetts successfully controlled the effects of algae blooms and eliminated water quality problems. Potential THM formation was reduced by an average of 75 percent.
But H2O2 and O3 are relatively cheap; moreover, the only byproducts are pure oxygen and hydrogen, so no one can make a big immediate profit on them. (Hydrogen is a potential major energy source for electricity generation and for zero-emission vehicles, and so it could be important in future years.) France and Germany, wiser and less controlled by the chemical industry, chlorinate water only in emergencies.
The chemical companies pulled off a huge coup when they bamboozled America and Canada into chlorination. They make big profits disposing of excess chlorine into our drinking water; otherwise, they would have to pay to destroy it. So now, we know why American water is not treated with safe, cheaper, more effective ozone. Now, we know why Dr. Price's revealing studies with cockerels were never followed up.
SIDEBAR: Swimming in chlorinated water. Drinking and swimming in chlorinated water can cause malignant melanoma. Sodium hypochlorite, used in chlorination of water for swimming pools, is mutagenic in the Ames test and other mutagenicity tests. Redheads and blonds are disproportionately melanoma-prone; their skin contains a relative excess of pheomelanins compared to darker people.
Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) tests have shown that "in the water we drink, over 2,100 organic and inorganic chemicals [including pesticides, heavy metals, radon, radioactive particles] and parasitic organisms including cryptosporidium have been identified; 156 of them are pure carcinogens. (In 1993, cryptosporidium killed more than 100 and infected over 400,000.) Of those, 26 are tumor promoting [they can make an existing tumor grow]. Exposure to cryptosporidium in people with lowered gastrointestinal immune function could lead to chronic GI infection. Other examples include recurring cases of Legionnaire's disease, a pneumonia caused by Legionella pneumophila, which may lurk in hot water supplies.
A public notice recently issued in Washington, D.C. warned that a high level of bacteria in the [chlorinated, fluoridated city system] water made it unsafe for dialysis patients, AIDS patients, organ transplant patients, the elderly, and infants. Water contamination is the worst in small communities that cannot afford proper treatment; the EPA has not released this information.
And hearings before the House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight discussed Pfiesteria outbreaks among people drinking chlorinated water. The organism, which kills fish, sickens some people; they get sick from drinking the water, not from eating infected seafood. The EPA's Robert Perciasepe said, in written testimony that "Any new public health policy on this issue needs to consider reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in our waters." A bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives would require managers of municipal water systems to tell customers what contaminants have been found in local drinking water. But with present crude test methods, that would offer little help.
Sherry Rogers, MD, pioneer in and authority on environmental medicine (EM), raises the number of chemicals in drinking water to 5,000. And 85 percent of American aquifers supplying wells below 8,000 feet altitude are contaminated with heavy metals; a recent federal report says the water you drink may have been recycled from sewage waste back to drinking water five times. As the late Kevin Treacy, MD of Australia said, "If municipal water were introduced now, it would not be allowed."
SIDEBAR: Plants do not thrive as well on chlorinated as on unchlorinated water; wild animals do not develop atherosclerosis until they drink chlorinated water in American zoos. Although their food, selected by people, is not the same as what they caught, plucked or dug up in the wilds, evidence suggests chlorinated water, together with its thousands of other chemicals, is the worst culprit in their arterial clogging.
Scientists in Minnesota grew embryos from healthy frogs in plain tap water. Some of the frogs had no legs or other had six legs or an eye in the middle of the throat. Earlier, deformed frogs were found in the U.S., Canada and Japan. And we are drinking and growing our food in it.
The EPA called 129 of the contaminants found in water supplies "dangerous" singly, let alone in combination. Pesticides and other toxic wastes run off farmlands and pastures or are dumped by factories, pollute rivers and seep into underground aquifers. Aptly called "biocides" by Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, pesticides are designed to end life; few have been shown to be safe. The EPA depends on producers of pesticides to test their safety: the wolf guards the hen house. It should be no surprise that the tests take a long time, and many have been fraudulent.
Further, one poison is tested at a time; synergistic effects of combinations, potentially far worse, are ignored. Besides, many of the so-called "inert" substances in pesticide combinations are more toxic than the "active;" one of the "inerts" is DDT, prohibited for American farm use since 1973.
Are these contaminants dangerous in such minute quantities? Yes! In a laboratory, healthy living cells weakened, malfunctioned and some died within seconds or minutes when exposed to toxins commonly detected in American drinking water such as mercury, nickel, cadmium and lead at the extremely low concentration of only one part per billion (ppb).

For many federal statutes,
the Constitutional Authority is:
Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 (1:8:17)
and
Article IV, Section 3, Clause 2 (4:3:2)
as explained fully in "The Federal Zone" here:

For example, the "U.S. Individual" named on IRS Form 1040
embraces ONLY federal citizens and resident aliens!

Meaning of “United States person”

The best place to begin an explanation of this term is to examine the title on IRS Form 1040: “U.S. Individual Income Tax Return”.  Many people understand this title to refer to a return of taxes on an individual’s income.  However, this understanding is not entirely correct and is mostly misleading.  The title of Form 1040 actually refers to a return of taxes on the income of “U.S. Individuals”.  So, what is a “U.S. Individual” in this context?

The answer to this question can be found at section 7701(a) of the Internal Revenue Code (“IRC”).  At subsection 7701(a)(1), the general term “person” is expressly defined to mean and include an individual, a trust, estate, partnership, association, company or corporation.  Thus, “person” refers to both living and artificial entities.  An “individual” is the only living entity to which the term “person” refers; all other entities mentioned in that definition are artificial or fictitious entities, like corporations and trusts.  Therefore, the term “U.S. Individual” on IRS Form 1040 refers only to the individual variant of “U.S. person” and not to any of its fictitious variants.

At IRC subsection 7701(a)(30), the term “United States person” is also expressly defined to mean both living and artificial entities.  Here, the only living entities embraced by that definition are “citizens and residents of the United States”.  If one has never been exposed to the terms “citizen of the United States” and “resident of the United States” then what follows may be the most difficult lesson to learn from this memorandum.  Nevertheless, it is a lesson that is absolutely essential, if one is to appreciate the full extent of the frauds and deliberate deceptions that are incorporated into the IRC.

By reviewing all of the additional documents which are attached, you will hopefully come to learn that there are two (2) classes of citizens under American laws never repealed, not one (1) class.

These two classes are now uniquely identified as State Citizens and federal citizens.  After much difficult research and litigation, my office has now proven conclusively that the term “citizen of the United States” is legally synonymous with federal citizen.  The term “resident of the United States” is less difficult to understand, because it refers to the status of a RESIDENT ALIEN as that text appears on green cards, i.e. an individual human being who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in America, but is not a citizen of either class.

For reasons that will become more obvious to you as you study and master the enclosed documents, we have chosen to utilize the term “federal citizen” because it is not so easily confused with the primary class of Citizens of ONE OF the United States of America.  Federal citizens are individuals who are subject to all the local statutes, rules and regulations which Congress has authorized when legislating in its capacity as the Legislature for places like D.C., Guam, Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Puerto Rico.  These are places that are not States of the Union, because they have no Governors, no State courts, no State legislatures, no U.S. Representatives and no U.S. Senators.  They are not stars on the American flag;  they are in the blue field on the American flag.

Strictly speaking, federal citizenship is a federal municipal franchise that is domiciled in the District of Columbia and, as such, it subjects all federal citizens to the exclusive legislative jurisdiction of the Congress (where there are no State governments).

This CONSERVATIVE ALERT is a special message from RightMarch.com:

Uphold Our Founding Fathers' Intent -- Click Below to Force Congress to Cite Constitutional Authority for Bills:
ALERT: It's time to hold Congress accountable for its actions…
Don't you agree?
John Shadegg (R-AZ) has reintroduced H.R. 1359, the "Enumerated Powers Act", a bill that highlights the importance of the Tenth Amendment and forces a continual reexamination of the role of the federal government.
The Enumerated Powers Act would require Members of Congress to include an explicit statement of Constitutional authority into each bill that is introduced. It would hold Congress accountable for its actions.
The Tenth Amendment states, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
According to the Tenth Amendment, the national government cannot expand its legislative authority into areas reserved to the States or the people. It is a well-known fact that the size and scope of the federal government has exploded since the New Deal. Congress continues to operate without Constitutional restraint, creating costly and ineffective programs and blatantly ignoring the principles of federalism.
The language is simple: "Each Act of Congress shall contain a concise and definite statement of the constitutional authority relied upon for the enactment of each portion of that Act."
It's just SIMPLE COMMON SENSE -- but we have to MAKE Congress do it!
TAKE ACTION: As Barry Goldwater wrote in The Conscience of a Conservative:
"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is ‘needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can."
Shadegg concluded, "There is no better way that Congress can uphold Mr. Goldwater's words than by respecting the Tenth Amendment and the Constitution of the United States."
Rep. Shadegg's bill has been stuck in committee since he introduced it last year -- it's up to US to force it out. Please click below NOW to send a FREE message directly to your Representative, asking him or her to SUPPORT H.R. 1359, the "Enumerated Powers Act":

Very well said. I can only add this:
Those who argue truth are able to use facts.
Those who argue lies must resort to insults.

Some are so keen to vilify that they don't even need a bona fide

Not only can photos be altered, people can also put FALSE photos of

As I once said, even if I WERE both fat and ugly, I would prefer to be
both rather than to be a 'fathead' with an ugly soul.

Federal take over of elections H.R. 5036, Emergency Assistance for Secure Elections Act of 2008

Action Alert
Oppose H.R. 5036, Emergency Assistance for Secure Elections Act of 2008
[THOMAS] House Bill H.R. 5036 would purportedly increase the security of the U.S. election process by reimbursing jurisdictions that voluntarily replace Direct Recording Electronic voting systems with voter-verifiable paper ballot systems in time for the 2008 elections. The bill would also grant the Election Administration Commission (EAC) new audit regulatory powers and funding to pay for vote count audits of randomly selected precincts, as well as pay for hand counts of paper ballots cast in the 2008 elections.
Critics of H.R. 5036 assert:
  • It would significantly expand an unconstitutional federal power grab to control elections that was initiated through the disastrous Help America Vote act of 2002 (HAVA) with its establishing of the Election Administration Commission (EAC).
  • A voter-verified paper ballot voting system is no guarantee against wholesale election fraud. Electronic optical scanners used to count votes on paper ballots can still be hacked or tampered with.
  • The proposed EAC audit powers undermine the benefit of the paper ballot system the bill seeks to promote, because per the proposed EAC audit policy only "random" audits would be subsidized and none of the bill's $100 million of authorized funding could be used for "targeted" audits directed at where there is a suspicion of election fraud.
  • Undesirable consequences may result from the bill's augmentation of the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The EAC might invite U.N. international observers to be placed throughout America to jointly monitor the fairness of U.S. elections.
Bill Status:
H.R. 5036 is categorized as a suspension bill. Currently the bill is in the committee stage. It can not be amended and requires a two thirds majority vote to pass. H.R. 5036 is also a stopgap measure, with Rep. Rush Holt's long term goals contained in H.R. 811 which should likewise be opposed.
Oppose the unconstitutional federal usurpation of the rights of states to control elections. We strongly object to the unconstitutional means by which H.R. 5036 would use the people's desire for voter-verified paper ballots as bait for establishing centralized control over elections. The constitutionally established balance of powers must be restored to prevent an over centralization of federal power leading to a dictatorship.

Recommended Action:
Please use the talking points below to urge your congressman to oppose H.R. 5036, The Emergency Assistance for Secure Elections Act of 2008. E-mail this link to others in your sphere of influence and ask them to voice their opposition to H.R. 5036 as well.

Unbrainwash Yourself: No More Make Nice

Again and again in these columns I have respectfully reminded you that the main reason this country is now on its knees is the communist government schools. We could not have arrived at the end of the plank had not those schools cooked our brains from the beginning. The communist media left and right – from the Communist Broadcasting System and the Communist News Network to Loopy Laura and Limbag – would not be enough. It could not have been done without the communist schools.
That is why the schools want ever younger victims. Consider that the most important time you hear about something is the first time, because the first time you have nothing to compare it to. You can’t criticize it; you can’t evaluate it. So what you hear the first time sinks into your mind and becomes the matrix, the mold. It becomes “true.” From then on, everything you hear about that particular subject is filtered through that matrix and you have no way of knowing if that matrix is faulty.
From then on, you will reject the truth because it will sound alien compared to what you “know.” So it all depends on who gets there first. If I am 40, or 50 or whatever years old, and you tell me something I don’t know, I compare it to what I do. If I am five years old, I believe whatever the nice lady my parents park me with says. If the only thing I hear for the next thirteen years is what she says – if I never hear anything else – I regard anything contradictory as crazy.
Thus, if I have heard for thirteen years, or seventeen years if I go to college, that the white man is responsible for every problem from asthma to xenophobia, and that anyone who says anything else is a “racist,” I tend to believe it when you show up and say that. If the only thing I’ve ever heard is that Lincoln was sent by God to save the Union and free the slaves, I consider you a nut when you say Lincoln was our first Communist President, that he destroyed the Union and that he wanted to send the nation’s blacks back to Africa.
The same thing applies to any assertion that the federal government is not here to help you, that the Fed arranged the Great Depression, that FDR arranged Pearl Harbor, that federal welfare destroyed the black family, that Washington colluded in Nine Eleven, and on and on. Of course, these things are intangibles. You can’t see the Great Depression; you must dig out the real history to see what really happened.
The real brainwashing hits when you are told that the truth is different from what you see every day, e.g., when you are told that men and women are the “same” (except that women should run things) and that sodomite buggery is “normal.” The purpose of the Communist media is to reinforce what you have been told, in case, despite these elaborate precautions, you accidentally blunder into the truth.
The Germans call what we are talking about the “zeitgeist,” the “spirit of the time,” but that doesn’t quite do the trick. For want of something better, I have elected to call it the Abasement Matrix. We don’t know it is there, but everything we experience – everything we do – is filtered through it, and it is the reason we are losing. It answers the question of how the conspiracy for world government gets away with such outrages, every one more egregious. The reason is we allow it; we allow it and applaud it.
Again, the obvious solution to all this is to remove your kiddos from the Communist government schools. You still can do this and as soon as you do it you will experience the thrill of an enormous victory. You have just saved another victim from the monster. You are a Twenty First Century Scarlet Pimpernel. As long as you leave a child in the clutches of the monster, anything you think you are doing to fight it is an ineffectual joke. Yes, I know it can be difficult. We home-schooled all five and as I write not one is in jail.
The reason all this again comes to mind is that as the Republican National Convention approaches, patriots are being told as usual how to behave. Make nice, we are told. Play fair. No cheating. Honor. Don’t try to change the rules. Do as you are told, our way. Elect Republicans. Any disunity could help Hillary and Hussein. And by the way, there is no such candidate as Dr. Ron No Such Candidate Paul. Who?
Except that the people who tell us this are the same people who changed the rules to steal the 1952 nomination for Eisenhower from Taft. Robert Taft was “Mr. Republican,” while Eisenhower only a few months earlier had confirmed that he was not a Democrat. They are the same people – putative Republicans – who sabotaged Barry Goldwater in 1964; who routinely squelch any “conservative” eruption.
Here is an ethical question: If a guy steps out of an alley and sticks a gun in your ribs, do ethics require you to treat him fairly? Here’s another: You are downstairs in the living room reading scripture, when someone breaks in and you realize he is the same man you just saw on television described as an escaped serial rapist. The man asks where your daughter is and she is upstairs. What do you tell him?
The answer is that, holding the Bible in both hands, you lie. You say your daughter is visiting her grandmother in Schenectady. You took her to the airport. You just got back. She won’t return for a couple of weeks, but he’s welcome to wait. You keep lying, and if you get the chance you rack the old Widow Maker in the corner and blow him away. Why do you do that?
One of the things the Founding Fathers explained is that the system of government they were leaving us could only work among a people mature enough, responsible enough, to obey the rules, the Christian rules. Immature, irresponsible people cancel the rules. If they do that, the mature, responsible people who remain no longer are required to obey.
Well, what kind of people are we talking about? What kind of people run the Republican Party? First, remember that they are the same kind of people who run the Democrats. They are part of the same totalitarian cabal at the top. They are “different” in the same way Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Al Capone, Mao Tse-tung and Meyer Lansky were “different.” I am not talking about the people you see at the local Republican Club. I am talking about the people you don’t see – or see only at a distance or on television – at the very top.
What have these people done? They have blithely tricked us into one war after another for more than a century, starting with Lincoln’s Communist War to Destroy the Union. They couldn’t care less who and how many are killed and maimed on whichever side. Indeed, they routinely finance and support both sides, to keep the wars going as long as they can, because the longer you fight, the more wealth and power they collect.
For instance, the more you know about World War I, and about the jejune European rulers who fomented it, the more you realize that Washington’s intervention was one of the most preposterous decisions every made. The conspirators created Soviet Russia, Hitler Germany, Red China, Castro Cuba and the Iran we are getting ready to bomb. Without their intervention, none of these things would ever have amounted to more than historical footnotes at the bottom of a page.
They extort and swindle and regulate and socialize, to collect more wealth and more power. It was Alan Greenscum’s Fed that got us into the present financial mess; now, el presidente Jorge W. Boosh proposes “solving” the mess by giving the Fed even more power, and Greenscum, still not in jail, is telling Middle East sheikhs to dump the dollar in favor of the Euro.
If you go to any U.S. Marine base, you will hear the name of Smedley Butler. There, Butler is as close to divine as a man can get without being God Himself. General Butler was awarded not one, but two Medals of Honor. Most Marines don’t know that Butler later wrote a book, War Is a Racket, in which he explained his new understanding that Washington had sent his beloved Marines around the world on behalf of huge international corporations.
Hugh Hewitt is a radio neo-con (man). Recently, thinking of that book, Blewitt actually said that General Butler became “un-American.” Wouldn’t you love to hear him say that at Pendleton? Americanism to Hugh Blewitt means militarism, means making imperial war on the world, poking our nose into everyone else’s business abroad and regimentation at home.
The Monsanto monster is poisoning your food. Big Pharma has almost succeeded in making vitamins illegal. In preparation for the discontent to come, Washington is imposing a fascist dictatorship here – rule by monster corporation – complete with concentration camps that would drive the torturers in Orwell’s 1984 livid with jealousy, furious that they did not have today’s technology that makes it possible. Soon, you will need a Real ID to go to the ladies’ room, while illegal aliens roam the nation unchecked. Remember that Boosh is running the invasion.
So, again, what kind of people are we talking about? They are psychopaths. A psychopath is distinguished from normal people in that he – or she – has no moral sense, no conscience. A psychopath is incapable of experiencing embarrassment or shame. You may never have met one because they are only a handful; if there were any more than a few, civilization would be impossible. It would be replaced by a landscape ruled by ravening wolves. They are paradoxically brilliant and immensely attractive, “magnetic” personalities.
The lawmen tell us we shall never know how many women utterly charming Ted Bundy killed. They nailed him for some thirty, but women disappear all the time and are never seen again. Undoubtedly, he did some of them, but he fried still not talking. Stalin is reputed to have said, maybe apocryphally, that the greatest joy in life is befriending a man until he trusts you completely, and then sticking a knife in his ribs.
Now look at Hillary Clinton, not at all in the spirit of partisanship. She is just a recent, good example. She lies all the time, even when she doesn’t need to. She is a compulsive liar. You can’t even believe her name. She lied about it, saying she was named for Sir Edmund Hillary. Remember? Recently, she clearly remembered running for cover under intense sniper fire in the Balkans, where Rapist-in-Chief Bill sent her because he always sent the First Feminoid where the danger was greatest.
You and I wouldn’t tell such a whopper to start with; but, if we had, we would be mortified when caught, eaten up with shame. Remember the First Feminoid’s response when this latest lie was exposed, this time on videotape by the correspondent who was there? Yeah, I misspoke. You caught me. Ha, ha. Well on to the next prevarication. Isn’t politics fun?
Wasn’t that in effect what she said? I am not the first observer to say that you can’t embarrass the Clintons. You couldn’t embarrass Hillary if you videotaped her naked straddling Janet Reno at a bull dyke convention. You couldn’t embarrass Bill if you caught him servicing a sow in a hog wallow. And Jorge W. Boosh likewise is apparently incapable of shame, enthusiastically talking patriotism while he leads the illegal alien invasion.
So, let’s see, while these traitors are robbing, swindling, killing, maiming, enslaving and betraying us, we are supposed to be well-behaved little boys and girls and make nice, because anything else would be rude. We are supposed to defer to the bull dyke revolution and confirm the feminization that is destroying our civilization. Do I understand?
Remember, I am not talking about ordinary venality, not about wanting the imagined prestige of political jobs. I’m talking about people who worship the Republican Party, who secretly imagine it will still be here when everything else collapses, when the Southwest is again Mexican, there is a mosque on every corner in New England and the United States has been dissolved. I’m talking about the people at the top, colder than absolute zero, who couldn’t care less about all this as long as the money rolls in.
Remember also that there is only one way to stop a striking rattler.

Only A Miracle Can Save America Now
America is currently facing the most serious threat to its national independence and sovereignty since the War of 1812. The forces of globalism have declared an all-out war against our country's independence. Illegal immigration, the NAFTA superhighway, the North American Community, a regional currency called the Amero, and "free trade" deals are just a few of the weapons in their arsenal. And John McCain will use every bit of his power as President to facilitate all of this chicanery. And, because McCain is a Republican, conservatives and Christians will sit back and let it happen without even the slightest whimper of resistance. If Obama or Clinton were sitting in the Oval Office, however, massive numbers of conservatives and Christians would rise in protest over every inch of ground ceded to these nefarious nabobs. So, tell me, who is the greater evil? I say it is John McCain.......

Opium and deindustrialization: Mao, Zhou, Kissinger and Rockefeller

Dick,

There is much of interest in what you write,. but not a single source, and source is what I was requesting.  I am particulalry interested in the source for your claims that Mao was a druglord... I would be very interested to see that corroborated.

Yes, I note that Kissinger is very happy to trade accross Communist lines.  But as to your assertion about the Nixon planning the industrialiazation of China, etc.....you ought to take some to read "Gold Wariors," which asserts that what actually went down that precipitated that momentous opening to China was the diversion of a significant portion of the "M-fund"  (accumulated and secret Japanese war loot recovered by the US/CIA but kept secret ever since) to shore up China's then-failing economy.  I find this argument plausible.

First _______, you misunderstood one point -- my fault probably.  I did not claim that  Nixon planned the industrialization of China.  I said that the very next week after Nixon went home from "opening China" , David Rockefeller arrived in Peking with Kissinger and THEY (not Nixon) planned the deindustrialization of the US, benefiting China's (Triad) princelings and the internationalist investment bankers -- the Rockefeller interests.    Dick Nixon was sold on controlling China by making them economically dependent on us  -- but extactly the opposite was intended -- or rather both China and the US would be controlled by the the Zhou-Triad-Banker alliance.   ( Nixon was like Reagan  -- the Rockefeller men were doing evil things behind his back.  I have always been pro-Nixon (as well as pro-McCarthy and pro-Reagan, pro-Harding and pro-Coolidge  but mostly pro-Senator Robert Taft)  and an EXTREME an anti-Rockefeller Republican.  I was vice-chairman of young voters for the president in 1972 in the SF Bay Area-  and I am still not ashamed of it.)

Martin Booth, The Dragon Syndicates: The Global Phenomenon of the Triads (New York:  Carroll & Graf, 2001 )   368 pages

Here is an excellent review  by Joseph D. Douglas:

One of the most vexing global problems today is gobal criminal capitalism, or international organized crime. Three years ago its gross revenues were estimated at $1.8 trillion. Today it is most likely to be over $2 trillion, annual, of which 50 percent or so is profits. The impact of their trade, which is narcotics based, on the moral fibre of people everywhere is incalculable. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that this type of money translates into massive political, financial, legal, judicial, and law enforcement corruption in all countries, including the United States. So far, there has been too little attention placed on the Chinese Triads and their contribution. Dragon Syndicates is an excellent start towards filling the gap. Its history is excellent. It makes clear the reason organized crime exists is that it is politically protected and very rapidly becomes integrated with the political and financial structure. The weakness in the book is its failure to understand the present-day government involvement, especially in the case of China, which while it outlawed internal use of drugs in 1949, as described in the book, at the same time it nationalized the poppies and began using opium and heroin to undermine other societies, most notably Japan and the United States (See The Peking Bomb by Gerd Hamburger and Psycho-chemical Warfare by A.H Stanton Candlin). The State-Triads connection has grown and can now be seen in the marketing of designer drugs, produced in military labs, and in the coordination with the Yakusa, Mafia, and Russian Organized Crime, in which the intelligence services play a major role. The threat posed by international organized crime and the need to recognize and respond is clearly evident in the Dragon Syndicates. This book is especially useful in showing how tremendous the Triad-supported crime has grown in the United States since 1965, when immigration controls were significantly relaxed. This is especially apparent in places like New York, San Francisco, and the Pacific Northwest. The book is also excellent in showing the variety of activities -- from narcotics, to white slavery, loan sharking, pornography, arms sales, money laundering, and piracy of computer software.  See also Drug Politics by David Jordan.

Another review (excerpt):

The Truth About Mao
Mass Murderer, Womaniser, Liar, Drug Baron:
Book Paints Horrific Portrait
By Jonathan Mirsky
The Independent -
UK

As for Mao, the inspiring commander, he now emerges as nearly left behind by the March, disliked by almost everyone, wrong-headed in both tactics and strategy, and, most disgracefully for the legend, a survivor of the Long March only because President Chiang let the Reds go. At one point the Nationalists left a truck at the side of the road loaded with food and detailed maps of the route ahead. Chang and Halliday maintain that Chiang spared the Reds partly because Stalin was holding his son hostage. Mao and the other leaders were carried in litters. A survivor told Chang and Halliday that the elite "lounged about in litters, like landlords". Not a single high-ranking leader, no matter how ill or badly wounded, died along the March, although most of the soldiers perished. This was an early example, Chang and Halliday assert, of "the stony-hearted hierarchy and privilege under Mao's dominion".
The final nail in the coffin of the guerrilla years is that Mao rarely fought either the Nationalists or the Japanese during that period, and when his commanders did fight Chiang's forces, just twice, Mao was furious.
For several years Mao oversaw the growing of opium poppies and the extremely lucrative sale of "the black product" in areas outside his control. He told Premier Chou En-lai that the business was worth six times the official Yanan budget. The Russians, whose sources on Mao's career are Halliday's most significant contribution to the biography, estimated sales then at $60m "or some $640m (£350m) today," a humiliating admission for a patriotic movement that based its hatred of imperialism on the British export of opium into China in the 19th century.   ....

And another:

Martin Booth, The Dragon Syndicates: The Global Phenomenon of the Triads (New York:  Carroll & Graf, 2001 )   368 pages

Aug 2, 2000 | A small band of Chinese men in matching red pajamas barks out cryptic twaddle about avenging the monks of the Shaolin Temple, then nimble feet and sharpened metal stars fly through the air and another small band of Chinese men, in matching black pajamas, is killed with much gore and eloquent shrieking. A scene from a Hong Kong martial arts movie? Well, yes. But until I read the British novelist and historian Martin Booth's "The Dragon Syndicates: The Global Phenomenon of the Triads," I didn't know where the vocabulary of those movies came from. Booth's literate, action-packed overview of Chinese secret societies paints a scary picture of ritualism and thuggery in modern China and worldwide, and incidentally answers most of my questions about Bruce Lee films and the arcane skits on Wu-Tang Clan records.

The term "Triad" comes from one of the most prominent early groups, the Three United Society -- the three in question being heaven, earth and man -- and refers to either a society or one of its members. Triad societies have operated in China for 2,000 years as more or less Masonic-style fraternities, trade guilds and forums for political dissidence. They incorporated elements of Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism and ancestor worship into their complex ceremonial rites and imagery. When the ethnic Manchus overthrew the Ming dynasty in the 17th century and inaugurated the Q'ing dynasty, the Triads adopted the goal of returning the Ming to power, wresting China back from the foreigners.

But the secret societies quickly evolved into extortion and protection mobs as well, and got rich off the 19th-century opium trade -- Booth notes that since this trade was run by Europeans with the compliance of the Q'ing, the Triads could claim they were inserting themselves into the trade in order to resist foreign domination. When Chinese began to emigrate and open businesses in new overseas Chinatowns, Booth says they were (and still are) often obliged to pay "insurance" money, just as they were back home, so as not to put themselves in the way of jolly Triad punishments, like a decisive meat cleaver to the fingers or the "death by myriad swords."

The Q'ing Dynasty was felled in 1912 by the Kuomintang (Nationalist) Party, whose head, Sun Yat-sen, himself a Triad, had rallied Triads to unite and fight for the republican cause. Chiang Kai-shek was a Triad, too, and Booth contends that his presidency both before and after the Kuomintang government fled to Taiwan in 1949 was marked by giddy criminality and collusion in the opium trade. The Triads flourished under this misrule, and most of the societies' noncriminal ideologies dropped away until they simply became crime syndicates with elaborately silly initiation rituals.

---

Organized-crime trails are always deliberately convoluted.  In some passages, so many names are piled on top of one another that it becomes impossible to keep track of who or what Booth is talking about. Booth elegantly places the story of the secret societies in the greater context of China's history, and his discussion of the importance to their solidarity of "guanxi" -- the Chinese concept of loyalty to clan and obligation to repay favors -- is incisive. He posits intriguingly that, beginning in the '50s, the Triads not only provided most of the world's heroin supply, but virtually created the whole market, most devastatingly by offering heroin as a novel experience for American soldiers in Vietnam.  Chinese organized crime is part of a global Triad network and  most Chinese people are either merciless Triad predators or helpless Triad prey.   Booth dispels the mystery of the Triads' rituals and reveals them as a confederacy of gangsters like any other, only one that's so enduringly efficient. It's no wonder it continues to thrive.  Established themselves primarily in British-ruled Hong Kong Zhou Enlai, that consumate politician and diplomate, involved them in furthering China's foreign policy objectives.  In the past half-century opiates have remained at the core of their far-flung operations, but Booth claims that they also peddle counterfeit CDs, videotapes, computer programs and credit cards; smuggle indigent emigrants overseas in slave-ship conditions for absurdly steep fares; run gambling and prostitution houses wherever there's a large Chinese population; engage in low-level loan-sharking and high-stakes financial-market skulduggery; demand and receive protection payments from businesses large and small; and still haul out the myriad swords when inter- or intragang protocol is breached.

Enemy Within the Gates

by William F. Jasper

The arrests of Russian immigrants Nikolay and Svetlana Ogorodnikov in October 1984 on espionage charges revealed the bare tip of a potentially catastrophic iceberg. The Ogorodnikovs emigrated to Los Angeles in 1973 as Jewish refugees, but were actually agents of the Soviet KGB. From FBI agent Richard Miller, whom they suborned with sex and money, they obtained secret documents for their Moscow spymasters. According to the FBI, those documents provided the KGB with "a detailed picture of FBI and U.S. intelligence activities, techniques, and requirements."

The New York Times, in an unusual display of common sense and concern for the obvious national security implications of the Ogorodnikov affair, noted on October 20, 1984, "The circumstances of the couple's entry raise questions [of] how well American security agencies are able to scrutinize tens of thousands of Soviet emigrants, mostly Jews and Armenians, who have come to the United States since the late 1960s."

Alarming Evidence

But that was more than a decade ago, before the "collapse of communism," during the dark days of the "Cold War." Surely no such antiquated concerns need disturb our serene complacency today. Right?

Or are we sublime fools courting national suicide? Consider these cases which, unfortunately, are far from unique:

· Michael and David Smushkevich. Immigrating to the U.S. in 1981 as refugees, these two brothers from Lithuania soon established a multi-billion-dollar, West Coast-based, global crime empire. Michael, a former scientist of the Moscow Missile Construction Institute, and David, a physician, were arrested in 1990 as the masterminds of a $1 billion medical insurance fraud scheme, reportedly the biggest health care scam in U.S. history. Using an elaborate network of hundreds of front companies and sophisticated marketing programs, the Smushkeviches generated a tidal wave of phony insurance billings and sent multitudes of unsuspecting patients to corrupt doctors who charged exorbitant rates for unnecessary and expensive tests. The brothers apparently were also involved in massive foreign currency exchange scams, drug trafficking, the Soviet emigré racket, and other criminal activities. It is interesting to note that after arriving as a "refugee," David Smushkevich was issued a Soviet passport by the Soviet consulate in San Francisco and made frequent trips to the Soviet Union. He was obviously a KGB-approved mafiosi.

· Paul Lai. One of the most prominent figures in New York City's Chinatown business community, Mr. Lai served on Governor Mario Cuomo's Asian-American Advisory Committee, and was well connected to City Hall and to political figures ranging from the local school board to Congress. He has pleaded guilty to murder-conspiracy and racketeering. Another prominent Chinatown businessman and associate of Lai, Clifford Wong, was convicted in January 1995 of murder, extortion, and racketeering, and is serving a life sentence in prison. Behind their respectable fronts, Lai and Wong were, in reality, vicious crime lords who dominated Chinatown's drug and alien smuggling trade, prostitution, gambling, protection racket, and other criminal activities. Receiving almost no media attention is the fact that both men were Chinese immigrants who had strong ties to the communist regime in Beijing and who worked closely with agents of the Peoples Republic of China in their various "enterprises."

· Wu Bin, Li Jing Ping, and Zhang Pinzhe. Wu Bin came to the United States from Red China in 1990 on a work visa. He soon violated his visa, however, and disappeared into the "underground economy," where he hooked up with Li Jing Ping, a "former" Red Chinese official who had established an electronics firm in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Zhang Pinzhe, a Chinese agent posing as an English student at Old Dominion University. In 1992 the trio was arrested by U.S. Customs, but not before they had shipped critical defense technology to our Chinese "friends."

· Abu Nidal. In March 1993, a federal grand jury in St. Louis, Missouri indicted four Palestinian men on charges that they had planned a series of terrorist acts for the notorious Abu Nidal group, which a 1988 U.S. Defense Department report called "the most dangerous terrorist organization in existence." The men, one of whom was already in prison on death row for the murder of his daughter, were accused of plotting to kill Jews in the U.S. and to blow up the Israeli embassy in Washington DC. They were also implicated in a massive nationwide food coupon fraud ring. In October 1994, Tawfiq Musa, Loie Nijmeh, and Saij Nijmeh were sentenced to prison on federal racketeering charges.

· Vyacheslav Ivankov. On June 8, 1995, the FBI arrested Vyacheslav Ivankov, one of the top bosses in the brutal Russian mafia organization in New York City. He had been sent from Russia, reportedly to oversee the burgeoning mob activity which operates from the heavily ethnic Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, known to many as "Little Odessa." The arrest was heralded as one of the triumphs of the new cooperative crime-fighting arrangement between the FBI and the KGB. However, one intelligence specialist told THE NEW AMERICAN it is doubtful that Ivankov was operating as a "free agent" without KGB approval. More likely, the notorious gangster was sacrificed to a larger purpose.

· Oklahoma City. In the months since the explosion which took 169 lives in America's heartland, THE NEW AMERICAN has been pursuing an intensive investigation of the crime. The evidence we have gathered thus far (and are continuing to develop) strongly indicates that five or six Iraqis, who had come to Oklahoma under a controversial asylum program after the Persian Gulf War, were involved as co-conspirators with Timothy McVeigh in delivering the explosives-laden Ryder truck to the Murrah Building.

How Many Agents?

The above are but a few of many dramatic examples which illustrate the enormity and the deadly seriousness of our "open borders" crisis. Between 1984 and 1994, the U.S. admitted over 500,000 legal immigrants from the People's Republic of China alone. During the same period, America received more than 276,000 legal immigrants from the Soviet Union and "former" Soviet states. Hundreds of thousands more arrived from other communist tyrannies and terrorist protectorates. How many of these are true refugees, and how many are agents of destruction?

Justin Yu is a reporter in New York City for the World Journal, one of the largest Chinese language daily newspapers in the United States. For years he has written about and warned of the massive campaign of espionage, penetration, and subversion by the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) against the United States. "The PRC has been sending thousands of agents here for years, both as legal and illegal immigrants," Yu told THE NEW AMERICAN. "They come as students, diplomats, researchers, visiting scientists, businessmen, refugees, or are smuggled in" through numerous land or sea routes used to penetrate our porous and under-protected borders.

Yu has interviewed many of these agents over the years. While many of them were captured and deported, many more succeeded in getting refugee status, or otherwise obtained legal residency. Still others remain here as illegals. Many are here as willing "agents" of the Red Chinese, while others are here under duress, faced with the prospect of brutal treatment by gangsters here and harsh retribution for their families back in China if they don't perform as ordered.

Smuggling Racket

For anyone who is willing to look, the evidence of PRC influence and control in the Chinese crime syndicates is palpably obvious, says Yu. It is particularly conspicuous in the Chinese ŽmigrŽ smuggling. "In five counties of Fukien Province in China, almost all the young people between the ages of 15 and 35 have been cleared out and sent to the U.S.," according to Yu. "The Public Security Bureau agents go house-to-house and tell them they must leave. They provide the young people with documents and the PRC's Border Guard boats transfer them to the large smuggler ships off shore."

The alien smugglers are known among the Chinese as "snake hats," says Yu, and contract with the PRC. The current smuggling charge they assess each piece of human "cargo" is about $35,000. The Chinese peasants do not have even a fraction of that amount, naturally, so must serve as indentured slaves in America until the sum is paid. From time to time these smuggling operations are uncovered, often due more to chance than vigilance. Such was the case in June 1993, when the Golden Venture, a ship carrying nearly 300 illegal Chinese aliens from Fukien, ran aground off the coast of the New York City borough of Queens. At least ten of the passengers drowned. Similar smuggling affairs have been discovered at west-coast ports. Chinese aliens have also been apprehended in groups of 50 to 100 coming across the U.S.-Mexican border, using the same trails that hundreds of thousands of aliens from over 100 other countries use.

On a recent trip along the California-Mexico frontier, retired Border Patrol Agent Bob Stille showed this reporter a small valley east of San Diego where the Border Patrol had captured a large group of aliens from Red China. After the Chinese consulate had been contacted, a Chinese attorney appeared with bail money and, as in times past, the aliens were released into his custody, pending deportation hearings. By the time the hopelessly backlogged immigration courts can schedule a hearing, the aliens have often disappeared. Or they have filed for asylum, which can buy them months - or even years - of delay in deportation.

Many other Chinese take a much longer and more circuitous route, according to Yu. "Some go through Russia and the other countries of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, and then on to France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Holland, and Italy," he explains. "Some stay there for a while or even settle in those places, or go on to Central or South America before making it to the U.S. One thing from this is very clear: They can't get through the Russian/Soviet areas without the cooperation of the Russian and Chinese governments. Those are very long, complex, and expensive routes requiring a great deal of coordination. So there is some apparent Sino-Soviet collusion involved in this."

Yu recalls that one time he was attending a deportation hearing when one of the Chinese illegals asked him for assistance. "He had a green diplomatic passport, but was uneducated, couldn't speak English, and obviously wasn't a diplomat. All of his papers had been provided by the PRC." Once the hapless ŽmigrŽs arrive here, they have little choice but to work at whatever jobs they can find or are assigned to, or whatever criminal activities may fit their hands.

"The Chinese communists run the Chinese gangs here in the U.S.," says Yu. "The drug running, smuggling illegal aliens from China, gambling, racketeering, prostitution, you name it." A prime example of this, he points out, is the recent high-profile trial and conviction of Paul Lai. "Lai is openly pro-communist and frequently socialized with the PRC officials," notes Yu. "During the communist celebration at New York's City Hall Park on September 1, 1995, Lai stood next to the Chinese consul general under the red flag. The previous year, in September 1994, when anti-communists demonstrated against the Red celebration, he had martial arts thugs attack the demonstrators and rough them up."

Espionage Concern

As previously mentioned, over the past decade more than half a million Chinese have immigrated to the U.S. from the PRC mainland. How many thousands more have come illegally is anyone's guess. But the permanent immigrants and illegals are not the only source of concern; thousands of Chinese visitors are constantly visiting some of our most sensitive defense installations. The December 1994 Reader's Digest revealed just one of our many tragic security losses as a result of these disastrous policies:

In September 1988, China exploded a "neutron" bomb whose intense radiation can kill even the crews of heavily armored tanks. Western observers had considered the weapon beyond the reach of Chinese technology. They were right. The FBI confirmed that the Chinese government had obtained the crucial data about the weapon from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a nuclear-weapons facility outside San Francisco.

A federal investigation, reported Reader's Digest, "revealed that the Department of Energy had permitted more than 100 Chinese scientists to visit U.S. weapons laboratories in the previous two years."

Russian Mafia

Then there are the hundreds of thousands of émigrés from the Soviet Union. What kinds of security measures have been taken to screen these recent arrivals? Almost none. Which is why the Russian mafia is cutting such a ferocious swath of terror across America.

Long before the Russian mafia had become a sexy media topic, the Soviet Union was deeply involved in promoting organized criminal activity in the U.S. and other Western nations. The 1980 Mariel boatlift initiated by Moscow's surrogate in Havana is a striking case in point. Genaro Perez, a defector from Castro's secret police, the DGI (which operates under the control of the Soviet KGB), revealed that the Mariel operation was part of Fidel's "Plan Bravo" to insert agents who would "incite Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, and blacks" to riot and revolution. Another DGI defector, Mario Estebez Gonzalez, testified that he and about 3,000 other Cuban agents infiltrated into the U.S. among the 130,000 Marielitos.

These and other defectors also revealed the Soviet-Cuban plans for expanded narco-terrorism, the use of narcotics both as a weapon to destabilize and subvert American society and to fund terrorist group operations. The communist/drug cartel/terrorist connection, which has been exposed in numerous studies and congressional hearings, was most definitively revealed in Red Cocaine, the authoritative 1990 book by national security expert Dr. Joseph D. Douglass Jr.

However, Dr. Douglass' message has fallen on deaf ears, as have the warnings of many of those who have gone before him. In 1968, General Major Jan Sejna, one of the highest-ranking officials of the Communist Czechoslovak regime, defected, bringing with him detailed knowledge of the Soviet narco-terrorism plan launched in 1956. German defense analyst Hans Graf Huyn explains:

In 1956, the Soviet Union started a project studying the use of drugs as a means of destabilizing Western society. The project was organized under the auspices of the Soviet "Defense Committee" in cooperation with the KGB, the GRU, the Ministry of Health and the Soviet Academy of Sciences.... Following Directive M-220/00-0050 of 16 July by the Bulgarian state security service [KDS], over 50% of heroin trade in Europe, plus a proportion of the North American trade, was managed by KDS through its "trade organization," KINTEX, at Boulevard Antonov 66, Sofia. At KINTEX, Western mafia groups delivered heroin in exchange for firearms which were transferred to terrorist groups operating in the West.... The Cuban and Nicaraguan intelligence services, both affiliated to the KGB (GRU), organize drug operations out of Colombia into the United States.

Once the narcotics are in the U.S. they are fed into distribution systems that are dominated by criminal syndicates composed almost entirely of recent immigrants (legal and illegal) from Russia, Ukraine, Jamaica, China, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Haiti, Mexico, the Mideast, etc. What percentage of the massive drug trafficking business is run by freshly arrived foreigners? THE NEW AMERICAN asked that question of Special Agent John Dowd, who recently retired from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) after 25 years on the front lines of the drug war. Agent Dowd replied: "I'd say conservatively 90 percent." Joseph Occhipinti, the legendary DEA/INS officer who now heads the National Police Defense Foundation, concurs, saying that there's no question that the drug trade is "overwhelmingly in the hands of aliens" who have taken full advantage of our pitifully lax immigration laws.

In 1973, A.H. Stanton Candlin revealed in his massively documented opus, Psycho-Chemical Warfare, the enormous Chinese communist drug offensive against the West which had begun even earlier than the Soviet effort. But America's foreign policy elites were not going to let a minor thing like that stand in the way of U.S.-Sino rapprochement. They still prefer to cover up these unpleasant facts. "Nobody [in Washington] wants to hear about this," Dr. Joseph Douglass told THE NEW AMERICAN, "They'd rather pretend it isn't happening. But you can see the unmistakable earmarkings of Soviet state operations in the drug trade and organized crime activities all around us. The KGB and GRU are still as healthy and alive as before, so the appropriate question is, why would they stop now?"

Ken,

There are hundreds of books on this subject.  I have dozens of them.  It is the famous question "Who gave away China?"  George C. Marshall played a very big part.  Joseph McCarthy was not wrong on what made him famous.  His speech before Congress Retreat from Victory details Marshall's role in the loss of China.  In the FDR and the Truman administration there were many "reds" for the Communists and against Chang Kai-shek heir of Sun Yat-sen -- American educated and attempting to establish a Republic.  The US government, whose most influential string puller at the time was Bernard Baruch, did everything to sabotage the Kuomintang and back the Communists.  There are the banking interests.  Why?  Because Hong Kong was the very profitable bottle neck through which all trade was conducted with "closed" China.  Since the days of Venitian merchant banking -- merchant bankers made their fortune monopolizing trade between China and Europe -- a free republic of China on lines drawn up by the University of Chicago would end the exclusive middleman role of the merchant bankers.  You will not that Kissinger & Associates plays this game of selling access to the communist dictatorship.  You will note too that after the COmmunist revolution and even during the Korean War China did not snatch Hong Kong  -- that was Zhou Enlai's doing  -- Zhou was decended from the Mandarin family that leaisoned between the British opium traders and the Emperor.  Zhou was a communist but  a communist with ties to the banks.  One week after Nixon opened China (remember the ping pong meetings?)  David Rockefeller and Kissinger went to Zhou and essentailly planned the industrialization of China at the expense of the US middle class.  Also, China and Israel immediately recognized each other when created in 1949  -- Trotsky and Zhou never divided.  Mao also was a opium druglord as well as a red revolutionary -- and you know who gets the laundered proceeds from drug dealing  -- and the arms that drug money buys.

Only one other person has commented on Night of the Living Goyim  -- I guess it was too long  -- when something is too long everybody finds at least something they don't like

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

CHARLIE CHAN AND THE SINISTER PLOT OF ZHOU ENLAI

(A middle-aged Asian-American in white suit and hat, stands
talking with his eldest son)

#1 Son:
Gee, Pop, it looks like Beijing got all our secrets of the
neutron bomb, miniaturized nuclear warheads, satellite
electronics, and electro-magnetic pulse weapons. I
guess the White House was too trusting.

CC:
White House trusting many empty heads like head on
shoulders of inattentive son. Not disappointed.

#1: What do you mean, Pop?

CC:
Man not put mustard in bun unless expecting
hot dog.

#1:
You mean the Reds really bribed the leader of
the Free World with campaign money?

CC:
Please hold tongue so ears can hear. Beijing money
operating expenses for red-agent President.

#1:
But the Cold War ended 10 years ago, Pop. We¹ve
built up all kinds of economic ties and good will
with China.

CC:
Economic ties tight around neck of Uncle Sam.
Old Chinese saying: Eagle and dragon watch bear
die. Eagle think safe to sleep. Dragon soon making
wish with wishbone. Good will to Beijing Reds one
way street. Bank crooks give factory and know-how
to China Princelings; Get big profit. Uncle Sam
left with big slum and no middle class.

#1:
But why would any American do that, Pop?

CC:
Beijing Reds murder many Chinese. Big-shot
bank pirates rob America. Beijing Princelings
make crooked deal with bad bankers.
Princelings' heads not chopped off. Bad
bankers not go to jail.

#1:
But Pop, at the University the profs say our
economic ties are going to move China to freedom.
When they see the advantages of capitalism
they will open their society to our values.

CC:
Loud-mouth son waste time at expensive loud-mouth
college. Bad bankers not missionaries. Wall Street
crooks meet Beijing agent in Asia; smoke big cigars.
Play with bodies of pretty Burmese slaveboys. Talk
about big profit from coolie labor. Pick best country
to move money. No time for Thomas Jefferson.

#1:
But how could they plan something as big as
wrecking the United States?

CC: Plan already there. Zhou Enlai make plan
50 years ago. Use ancient Chinese military
strategy of Sun Tzu: If too weak to defeat enemy
today, corrupt grandchildren of enemy. Beat later.

#1:
Wow. So that¹s what happened to generation
³X² with all the broken families, all the dumbing
down in the schools.

CC:
Education reform controlled by big foundations
under thumb of bad money men.

#1: Is that why no one could stop the pornography
and all the abortions? I¹ll bet the crooked bankers
control the crooked lawyers too. Huh, Pop?

CC:
Tongue moving again. You overlook biggest weapon.
Zhou Enlai never forget Chinese loose Opium Wars
against English tea corporations. Use same weapon
against Uncle Sam. Red Beijing behind big drug invasion.
Make friends with American gangsters. Drug money
buy all crooked lawyer and politician they need. Old
Wall Street families long ago marry with English
opium-corporation families. See new chance to fill
pocket with drug money. Banks become agents for
Beijing. Transfer American know-how and machine
to Communist China. Throw honest hard-working
Japan, South Korea and Nationalist China on ear.
Beijing Communist not love people. Love power.
Bank crooks love power too. Poison propaganda
of CP hidden when letters changed to PC.
People fooled. Arrange own funeral.

#1:
But our military is still more powerfulful than theirs.

CC:
Number one son cannot open mouth without big
display of ignorance. Red-agent President disarm
own country. Send soldiers to middle of big Balkan
minefield. Stop American scientist weapon research.
Give missile secrets to Beijing Communists so
Communist soldiers know how to set pulse-beam
so burn up satellite and missile circuits. EMP bomb
destroy all electrical devices. President waste all
American missiles on Yugoslav mountainside.
Reds not take chances. Plan new Korean War
and Taiwan invasion when Uncle Sam start to
fight people of Iraq and whole Moslem world.
Defeated land of free go into receivership.
Everyone kowtow to Beijing Reds or else push
up daisies.

#1:
I don¹t get it, Pop. If all our key positions are
filled with enemy agents, criminals and dupes
and if all the good people have been lied to,
intimidated, or pushed out of decision-making
positions, how do we win? What¹s our
counter move?

CC:
Move already made.

#1:
Huh?

CC:
Words written down by man standing behind
potted plant will go on internet.

#1: Gosh, then the case is solved. Say, wait a
minute, Pop! What happens if no one listens?

Lifting his cup of tea toward his lips, the greatest
American detective smiles enigmatically and says
nothing.

Carter lays wreath for Arafat

Jimmy Carter, the former US president, has laid a wreath at the grave of
Yasser Arafat, the late Palestinian leader, further defying Israeli
leaders already critical of his plans to meet Hamas.

Carter was refused permission to enter the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip
on Tuesday, but met a leading Hamas figure in the West Bank.

A member of Carter's delegation in the West Bank city of Ramallah said
that Israel had rejected Carter's request to visit the Strip.

"I haven't been able to get permission to go into Gaza ... I asked for
permission, but I was turned down," Carter said.

"But maybe we can find a way to circumvent that. I don't know yet."

All of the border crossings between Israel and Gaza are controlled by
Israel and Egyptian forces are stationed at Gaza's southern border,
which is largely closed.

Israel angered

The Israeli government has been critical of Carter's visit, mainly over
his plans to meet Khaled Meshaal, Hamas's top leader, in Syria.

Carter said he would use his meeting with Meshaal to "get him to agree
to a peaceful resolution of differences, both with the Israelis ... and
also with Fatah".

"Since Syria and Hamas will have to be involved in the final peace
agreement, they ought to be involved in the discussions leading up to
... peace," he said.

Despite heavy Israeli criticism since his arrival on Sunday, Carter met
Naser al-Shaer, who served as deputy prime minister in the Hamas-led
government, formed after it won parliamentary elections in 2006.

Later he placed a wreath at Arafat's mausoleum.

While many foreign dignitaries have done this in the past, George Bush,
the US president, pointedly did not do so during his recent visit to
Ramallah.

The Bush administration had shunned Arafat, accusing him of fomenting
violence, an allegation he had denied.

Carter, who brokered Israel's first peace treaty with an Arab neighbour
- Egypt - signed in 1979, has said he hoped to become a conduit between
the armed Palestinian movement, Washington and Israel.

While he met Shimon Peres, Israel's president, in Israel on Sunday, he
was shunned by Ehud Olmert, the prime minister, and other policymakers.

Carter, defying Israel, meets Hamas ex-minister

Tuesday 15 April 2008

By Mohammed Assadi

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter met
an ex-minister in Hamas' government on Tuesday, defying Israeli leaders
who shunned the Nobel Peace Prize laureate over his contacts with the
Islamist group.

Naser al-Shaer, who served as deputy prime minister in the Hamas-led
government that the United States and other Western powers boycotted,
was greeted by Carter with a hug and kisses to both cheeks, a member of
Carter's delegation said.

"Mr. Carter wanted to listen to the positions of different Palestinian
figures. The meeting was very good and he promised to continue such
meetings," said Shaer, who was among several Palestinian political
figures to meet with the former president.

Carter has angered the Israeli government over plans to meet Hamas' top
leader, Khaled Meshaal, in Syria, and for describing Israeli policy in
the occupied Palestinian territories as "a system of apartheid" in a
2006 book.

Carter, who brokered Israel's first peace treaty with an Arab neighbour,
Egypt, signed in 1979, met Israel's ceremonial president Shimon Peres on
Sunday but was shunned by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and other policymakers.

Shaer told Reuters he met one-on-one with Carter and they discussed
efforts to broker an unofficial truce between Israel and Palestinian
militants in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas seized the coastal territory by force in June after routing
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' more secular Fatah faction. Abbas
then sacked a Hamas-led unity government and appointed a Western-backed
administration in the West Bank. Abbas's authority has been limited to
the occupied West Bank.

Shaer said Carter told him he wanted to play a role in trying to end the
enmity between Hamas and Fatah.

GAZA DENIED

Carter told reporters earlier he had wanted to visit Gaza, but his
request was rejected. Carter did not say who turned down his request,
but a member of his delegation said it was Israel.

"I haven't been able to get permission to go into Gaza. I would like to.
I asked for permission. But I was turned down. But maybe we can find a
way to circumvent that," Carter said.

All of the border crossings between Israel and Gaza are controlled by
the Jewish state. Egyptian forces are stationed at Gaza's southern
border, which is largely closed.

Carter said he would use his meeting with Meshaal to "get him to agree
to a peaceful resolution of differences, both with the Israelis ... and
also with Fatah".

"Since Syria and Hamas will have to be involved in the final peace
agreement, they ought to be involved in the discussions leading up to
... peace," Carter said.

Carter, who stressed he was not acting as a negotiator or a mediator,
said he hoped "just as a communicator" to relay to "leaders of the
United States" what Hamas and Syria have to say.

Israel and Washington have sought to isolate Hamas and bolster Abbas,
who launched U.S.-backed peace talks with Olmert.

Like Israel, the Bush administration opposes Carter's meeting with
Meshaal, whose Islamist group won Palestinian parliamentary elections in
2006 but was boycotted by the West for refusing to renounce violence and
recognise Israel.

During his visit to Ramallah, Carter placed a wreath at the mausoleum of
the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

U.S. President George W. Bush pointedly chose not to do so during his
recent visit. The Bush administration shunned Arafat, who died in 2004,
accusing him of fomenting violence.

Nothing for Families and Retirees

A Trillion Dollar Rescue for Wall Street Gamblers

By MICHAEL HUDSON

If the move to a Unitary Executive of unfettered presidential power
frightens you, America's radical right turn to Unitary Finance should
compound your fears--and your debts as well. The financial events of the
last two weeks of March 2008 demonstrate that the "economic royalists"
and "money changers" whom Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) drove from the
temple of finance have returned to mismanage our economy into dire
straights of unprecedented risk--debt creation, euphemized as
"leveraging" and "wealth creation."

The few checks and balances that remain in the way of the financial
sector's increasingly centralized planning, especially at the state
level, are being swept aside under the guise of "saving the system." Few
Wall Street beneficiaries who use this phrase explain just what the
system is. For starters, its political managers are industry lobbies
appointed to high managerial and planning positions in the public
agencies that are supposed to regulate these industries. Their idea of
financial planning is to put a trillion dollars in government agency
funds and credit guarantees at risk. This agency funding was supposed to
be used to help average American families obtain housing and health
care, and to protect their savings and provide for their retirement.
Instead, it is being mobilized to support the economy's bankers and
financial managers. Indeed, the past few weeks have seen seemingly
trillions of dollars committed for war making and bank support.

The banking system's free creation of credit, doubling each five years
or so for the economy at large, threatens to culminate in debt peonage
for many American families and also for industry and for state and local
governments. The economic surplus is being quickly absorbed by a
combination of debt service and government bailouts for creditors whose
Ponzi schemes are collapsing right and left, from residential to
commercial real estate and corporate takeover loans to foreign
bubble-economy credit.

This is the context in which to view the past few weeks' financial
turmoil surrounding Bear Stearns, JPMorgan/Chase and the rapidly
changing debt landscape. "The system" that the Treasury, Federal Reserve
and the New Deal agencies captured by the Bush Administration is trying
to save is an economy-wide Ponzi scheme. By that I mean that the
business plan is for creditors to lend debtors enough money for them to
pay the interest costs so as to keep current on their loans.

For the past few years this system has depended on asset prices for real
estate, stocks and bonds to be inflated by enough to enable debtors to
pledge these assets as collateral at a higher market price for more and
more new loans. But now that the real estate bubble has burst (and
indeed, as stock prices sink), the problem is how to bail out the tip of
our economic iceberg that has sunk into negative equity--a condition in
which the debts attacked to property exceed its market value. Someone
must take a loss--but whom?

Normally, it is the banker or investor who takes the loss. But they are
now supposed to be "rescued." This is being presented as a return to
stability. But it was a system that never was stable to begin with. In
fact, for the rescue to work, most Americans will have to own less and
owe more, while being told that all this is the path to wealth
creation--as if it were their wealth, not that of their creditors. The
Bear Stearns/JPMorgan Chase/monoline insurance giveaway to "save the
financial system" provides a vivid illustration of how Unitary Finance
has developed a parasitic relationship with American labor in its role
as pension contributor, consumer and homeowner. The system being
subsidized enables the FIRE sector to direct and live off the productive
efforts of others--people who make real things and provide real services.

Saving Wall Street with a trillion-dollar bailout of bad mortgage debt

The bailout started on Sunday, March 16. The government and JPMorgan
Chase had reason to be embarrassed about the negotiations, for the
details trickled out on the Federal Reserve or Treasury websites and Mr.
Paulson's speeches went far beyond just Chase and Bear Stearns. It
turned out that on the same Sunday on which he had negotiated the $30
billion Fed bailout, Mr. Paulson started a frenetic ten days
orchestrating actions by the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and other
government agencies to earmark a trillion dollars to re-inflate
financial markets for mortgage holders and their associated creditors
and speculators. Behind the scenes, as matters turned out, the Bush
Administration was mounting a financial surge: It decided to throw
everything its mortgage financing agencies could muster to prevent
property markets from collapsing on its watch.

The surge of support for the mortgage and real estate markets was headed
by the two largest U.S. mortgage holders and packagers: the
government-sponsored National Mortgage Association (FNMA) and Freddie
Mac. These two agencies were created to develop tradable markets for
mortgages that banks traditionally had kept on their own books by buying
home mortgages from the banks and mortgage brokers that originated them.
This created a vast new demand for mortgages by making them marketable
in large packages for institutional investors such as pension and mutual
funds. Being implicitly government-guaranteed, Fannie Mae and Freddie
Mac were able to borrow at fairly low interest rates, and sell mortgages
at a premium. Demand for these packaged mortgage securities provided an
enormous new source of lending. It also turned banks into mortgage
originators rather than mortgage holders.

Together, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bought more than three-fourths of
all U.S. mortgages issued in the fourth quarter of 2007, bringing their
holdings to $1.4 trillion. However, the fact that their capital base was
under $70 billion--for a 20 to 1 debt-leveraging ratio--led investors to
sell their stock steadily over the past year. Rather than insisting that
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac rebuild their capital position, the Office of
Federal Housing Enterprise and Oversight (OFHEO) did just the opposite.
It reduced their capital requirements from 30 percent to 20 percent, and
encouraged them to use this increased leverage to pour an extra $200
billion to the nation's mortgage market. Limits on the size of mortgage
loans that these two agencies could make were raised sharply in order to
help re-inflate the troubled high-cost California and New York property
markets in particular.

Designed to bring temporary relief, this maneuver threatened to further
destabilize matters by simply kicking the can down the road. The same
applied to the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), set up in 1934 as
part of the New Deal. Its insurance fund of about $20 billion backs some
3.8 million mortgage loans totaling $365 billion, for an 18:1
debt-leverage ratio. On Monday, March 24, it promised $400 billion in
new mortgage credit insurance. This means that government agencies can
use their capital to lend much more money to prospective homebuyers. The
FHA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac also will be on the line for any losses,
"socializing the risk" to a higher degree than ever before.

What was so worrisome about this strategy was that the FHA already was
in financial straits as a result of its subprime loans. For the first
time in its history it was running a deficit. Over a third of the loans
it insured were made by home sellers to new buyers to cover their down
payment--enabling homes to be bought without any down payment at all.
(Traditionally, 20 percent has been the norm.) This was a brand-new
market, barely existing in 2000 on the eve of the Greenspan-Bush real
estate bubble. The Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Agency
(HUD), Alphonso R. Jackson, told a Senate committee: "These types of
loans have pushed F.H.A. to the brink of insolvency." And now it was to
double its activities to prop up the real estate and mortgage market.

The Federal Housing Finance (FHF) board dutifully did its part to
increase the system's debt leverage. It doubled the ability of the 12
regional Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLB) to leverage their purchase of
mortgage securities, from three times their capital to six times, twice
the existing debt/equity ratio. The aim was to help them serve their
clients, the nation's eight thousand savings banks, S&Ls, credit unions
and insurance companies, finance the purchase of $160 to $200 billion
new mortgage-backed securities issued by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The
target was for these two agencies to buy up about half a trillion
dollars worth of mortgage securities from the private sector this year.

The Federal Home Loan Banking system also announced plans to start
offering its own "monoline" mortgage insurance against the looming
economic downturn at prices way below what private-sector insurance
writers were willing to match. The aim is to shore up the nation's
crumbling mortgage-insurance coverage at taxpayer expense. Again, the
concept of a "free market" is being subjugated in order to socialize the
losses for the FIRE sector's big players. The situation is much like the
government insurance of beachfront properties against flood damage,
paying for a chronically losing proposition at public expense. Of
course, a disproportionate number of the owners of those beachfront
properties also come from the campaign-contributing class.

Gillian Tett of the Financial Times noted that this mortgage insurance
subsidy is "likely to trigger further debate about how policymakers are
turning to state, or quasi-state, entities to stabilise the financial
sector" by addressing "an absence of the market." Instead of shaping the
market along less risky, less debt-leveraged lines, it was now another
case of the government socializing financial risk at below-market rates.
John Price, chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank board, claimed that
this "is what Government State Enterprises are for.'" In view of the
fact that private insurers would charge higher rates, But the
government's present plan being coordinated by Treasury Secretary
Paulson seeks to avoid letting markets work in a way that would raise
costs to Wall Street and hence leave less revenue for homeowners to
pledge for debt service. This policy is presented sanctimoniously as
lowering the price at which the financial sector "serves" the economy,
not as putting it at risk.

The most amazing moves were still to come. On March 11 the Federal
Reserve created a new Term Securities Lending Facility to extend $200
billion in loans to primary bond and securities dealers against their
holdings of mortgages and other packaged securities as collateral. The
aim was to rapidly re-inflate mortgages that the free market was pricing
as junk, as low as 20 percent of face value.

Then came the double bombshell. In a true showing of the green on St.
Patrick's Day, March 17, the Fed extended nearly unlimited credit to
non-bankers for the first time since the Great Depression. It accepted
their toxic mortgages as collateral--dubious assets that "the market"
was refusing to touch. So much for "market-based" solutions when it
comes to high finance! For the first time since the 1930s, non-banks
could borrow from the Fed's loan window against their junk mortgages,
apparently at full face value. It was too late for Bear Stearns, but
other investment bankers and brokerage houses saw the green lifeline as
the Fed opened its discount window to non-bankers, that is, to
investment bankers such as Lehman Brothers, in contrast to commercial
bankers that are regulated by the Fed.

The volume of credit seemed to be unlimited, collateralized by
mortgage-backed securities that "the marketplace" was pricing around the
levels Third World loans were selling at after Mexico's 1982 insolvency.
Labor economist Tom Palley wrote in his March 26 blog: "These subsidies
are a travesty. Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley are
extraordinarily profitable. They also have been the drivers of the worst
trends in the American economy over the past generation, pushing
excessive CEO pay that has spread like a cancer throughout corporate
America, even reaching into universities and non-profits. Additionally,
they have pedaled the shareholder value paradigm that has pushed
companies to emphasize short-term gain over long-term investment, and
contributed to ripping up America's social contract. Meanwhile, their
business model has promoted speculation that is behind repeated asset
and commodity price bubbles."

It is to support this business model that the Fed and Treasury officials
seem to be making up new rules on a daily basis--rules that receive only
a superficial or perfunctory review by Congress. Critics point out that
investment bankers are not subject to Federal Reserve oversight or other
regulation. Perhaps even this does not really matter in view of the
Fed's extreme non-regulatory mode ever since Alan Greenspan's four-term
Chairmanship. Even more important, of course, is the fact that the Fed's
new clients, investment banks and brokerage houses, do not serve the
middle-class depositors in need of special protection for their life
savings. The financial investments being saved from adverse market
conditions are ultimately speculative in character.

It seems a biting irony that the institutions now being mobilized to
bail out Wall Street creditors--the Federal Home Loan Banks to pump
credit into the mortgage market, the Federal Housing Administration to
insure mortgage loans, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to buy and package
mortgages for bulk resale to institutional investors--were created to
help homebuyers, not their creditors and speculators. But bailing out
speculators and high finance has now becoming their primary function.
This shift has turned America's housing, mortgage and banking agencies
upside down. Wall Street of course has welcomed the capture of these New
Deal and post-1945 institutions. But their doctrinaire ideology has
accused Glass-Steagall, Social Security, and most recently
Sarbanes-Oxley regulations by the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) as leading down the road to serfdom.

Politically, such bailouts require an ostensibly humanitarian cover
story. They need to be presented as a subsidy not to banks and other
wealthy creditors, but to debtors. This means that the "ideal" (that is,
most smoothly hypocritical) bailout takes the form of new credit to pay
banks and other bondholders and mortgage holders enough to keep the debt
bubble afloat. That means enough more credit to keep it growing, at
least by the amount of interest that must be paid.

The result is a true road to debt peonage. It is much more
destructive--and certainly more real--than the imaginary road to serfdom
that Hayek and other anti-government ideologues envision. While these
free-enterprise boys wring their hands and denounce government power,
their sponsors realize full well that when government steps back, the
financial sector moves in to fill the vacuum. The banks and money
managers become society's planners and resource allocators--in their own
short-term interest. This interest leads them to oppose laws protecting,
labor, consumers and debtors. This means that the "freedom" at issue is
a one-way favoritism for employers, monopolistic privilege and
creditors. What these vested interests mean by the "road to serfdom" is
an economy managed by hands other than their own, an economy protecting
the workers, consumers and debtors whom they seek to victimize.

No money left for Social Security and health insurance after the real
estate bailout?

The American public may justifiably be puzzled by how the government can
seem to come up trillions of dollars for foreign wars and banker
bailouts, but so little for them. The United States is spending an
estimated $3 trillion for an illegal war that has made us less safe, and
$1 trillion so far to rescue bankers in a way that is destabilizing the
economy. But it can't seem to secure health care or retirement security
for all Americans. On Tuesday, March 25, fresh from providing a trillion
dollars to underwrite the financial and real estate sector, Mr. Paulson
revived the Bush Administration's pretense that there is no money to pay
Social Security. Yet "fixing" Social Security--if indeed there is a
problem (which is no means certain)--would be relatively easy. Merely
restoring the Bush tax cuts for the top 1% of Americans (those earning
over $414,000 a year) to the high 30-percent tax rates of the 1990s
(nowhere near approaching the 94% top marginal rate of the 1940s, or
even the 70-percent rates of the 1970s) would provide 46% more than the
Congressional Budget Office's estimate of the Social Security shortfall.
The Administration does not acknowledge such inconvenient truths, or do
the reporters who simply pass on its handouts to the mass media.

The claim that there is no prospective funding to meet the government's
Social Security and Medicare obligations was rendered blatantly
incredible in the last week of March, which saw the five-year
anniversary of the Bush Administration's war in Iraq. As its death toll
to U.S. soldiers reached 4,000, newspaper accounts across the country
reported the calculations by Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz that the
war's cost has reached the $3 trillion mentioned above, taking into
account its legacy of interest charges and medical treatment for the
more than 25,000 troops that had been wounded or had post-traumatic and
other psychiatric stress disorders. (Mr. Stiglitz recently updated his
analysis to say $3 trillion is a conservative number.)

Five years, four thousand lives, and three trillion dollars for the
war--but no money for Social Security and Medicare! Did Mr. Paulson not
feel just a little bit discomfort in claiming with seeming urgency that
Social Security funding would be exhausted in just over another thirty
years, by 2041? Medicare is supposed to be in even worse shape, having
accumulated enough wage set-asides to last only until 2019, due largely
to rising health costs--which the Bush Administration refused to control
by negotiating prices with the drug companies, among others.

The historical road to serfdom is that of debt peonage to a financial
oligarchy concentrating wealth in its own hands. Contemporary
anti-government "libertarianism" creates a vacuum that the financial
sector moves to fill. The problem for society at large is that finance
finds its major gains to lie not in raising living standards, but in
promoting a free lunch for its customers--while turning corporate
profits, monopoly rent-seeking and real estate price gains into a flow
of interest to itself, by advancing the credit to finance the purchase
of these assets and privileges.

There is only one way to reverse this evolution toward debt peonage.
That is to scale back existing mortgages, especially for properties with
negative equity, to reflect the plunge in property values
today--admittedly under distress conditions, but nonetheless real
constraints on the debtor's ability to pay. Once the principal was
reduced to realistic levels, adjustable-rate mortgages would be replaced
by fixed-rate mortgages.

The problem with this solution is that to the financial institutions,
the housing crisis is not their problem. Their blame-the-victim attitude
holds it to be the mortgage holders' problem--and now increasingly the
taxpayers' problem. This perspective on how to resolve the housing
crisis can only succeed by creating a populist rhetoric for public
officials to use in promoting financial interests as if all this is in
the best interest of homeowners and other debtors.

The Fading American Economy

Government is the Largest Employer
The Fading American Economy

By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US economy lost 98,000
private sector jobs in March, half of which were in manufacturing. Today
13,643,000 Americans are employed in manufacturing, of which 9,849,000
are production workers.

Government employs 22,387,000 Americans, 8,744,000 more than
manufacturing. Even the category leisure and hospitality employs
13,682,000 Americans, slightly more than manufacturing. There are as
many waitresses and bartenders as production workers.

Wholesale and retail trade employ 21,467,000 Americans. Professional and
business services employ 18,036,000 Americans of which 8,368,000 are in
administrative and waste services. Education and health services employ
18,699,000 Americans.

Financial activities employ 8,228,000 Americans. The information sector
employs 3,010,000. Transportation and warehousing employ 4,532,000.
Construction employs 7,338,000, and natural resources, mining and
logging employ 751,000. Other services such as repair, laundry, and
membership associations employ 5,516,000 Americans.

This is the portrait of the US economy according to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics. It is an economy in which government is the largest
employer. Manufacturing employment comprises just under 10% of total
employment and about 12% of private sector employment. Everything else
is services, and not particularly high level services.

Is this a portrait of a super economy?

To help answer the question, consider that US imports in 2007 were 17%
of US GDP, according to the National Income and Product Account tables
provided by the Bureau of Economic Affairs. In contrast, the BEA
industry tables show that in 2006 (2007 data not yet available) US
manufacturing comprised only 11.7% of US GDP.

If US imports actually exceed total US manufacturing output by 5% of
GDP, it does not seem possible that the US can close its massive trade
deficit. Even if every item manufactured in the US was exported, the US
would still have a large trade deficit.

The NIPA and industry tables from which the percentages come are not
calculated identically, and I do not know to what extent differences
might exaggerate the differences between the percentages. However, it
seems unlikely that mere calculation differences would account for US
imports exceeding US manufacturing output.

If the US cannot close its trade deficit, it is unlikely that the US
dollar can remain the world reserve currency. If the dollar were to lose
the reserve currency role, the US government would not be able to
finance its annual red ink budget by borrowing from foreigners, as the
US saving rate is about zero, and the US would not be able to pay its
import bill in its own currency. The rest of the world continues to hold
depreciating US currency, because the dollar is the world reserve
currency. The dollar is certainly not a good investment having declined
dramatically against other traded currencies.

From March 2007 to March 2008 the US economy created 1.5 million new
jobs (in services). Legal and illegal immigration and work visas for
foreigners exceed US job creation.

During the current school year, 3.3 million high school students are
expected to graduate. If we assume that half will go on to college, that
leaves 1.6 million entering the work force. College enrollment in 2007
totaled 18 million. If we assume 20% graduate, that makes another 3.6
million job seekers for a total of 5.2 million. Clearly, immigration,
work visas, and high school and college graduates exceed the 1.5 million
jobs created by the economy. Unless retirements opened up enough jobs
for graduates, the unemployment rate has to rise.

The US unemployment rate is creeping up, and according to John Williams,
the official unemployment rate greatly understates the real rate of
unemployment. Williams has followed the changes that government has made
to the official indices over the years in order to spin a more
politically palatable picture. Williams uses the original methodology
prior to the decades of spin. The original way of measuring unemployment
indicates the current rate of unemployment in the US to be 13%, much
higher than the 5.1% official number.

Williams also calculates the CPI according to the same way it was
officially calculated prior to the recent decades of spin. Williams
estimates the current CPI at 12%, three times higher than the official
4% figure.

Williams reports that upward growth biases built into GDP modeling since
the early 1980s "have rendered this important series nearly worthless as
an indicator of economic activity." Williams estimates that US GDP
growth has been in negative territory during almost all of the 21st
century. The notion that the US is just now entering a recession is
nonsense if we have in fact been in recession for most of the 21st century.

America's post-World War II economic dominance was based on the
destruction of other economies by war and socialism. It is a different
world now, and Americans have given little thought to the economic
challenges of the 21st century.

I do not think Obama's remarks were wrong - I do not fault him -- he is right about why we cling to our guns -- his real failing is failure to go after the criminals and their system  -- and every declared candidate fails on that score.

The fuss the Zio Monopoly Media is making over his perfectly OK remarks reminds of of the way the media all jumped on Edwards when he made a "rebel whoop"  -- spun by the media as "a scream" to rally his troops after a primary defeat  -- and that alone -- I remember Dan Rather spending a long time on that "news"  -- somehow caused everything to shift to John Kerry.  And there they are doing it again to Obama.    My original prediction is going to come true  -- before the primaries started I predicted it would be McCain versus Hillary with Paul and Kucinich  preventing a real third choice from emerging.  Obama shows up and people saw him as more genuine and sincere  than Kucinich -- although equally failing to admit who runs the country and who put us into war with a false-flag attack on our own people etc.

If they can't admit the full extent of the problem they are not going to be able to solve any of the problem.  Bowman is the only candidate for the American people.

Anyone for Ron Paul, Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama want to debate that?

Heather van Dooran:

Dick Eastman reply:

Say you are evil and you want the United States to be run for your evil purposes.  Therefore you want most evil minion you can find and run him for President  in the party with the best organization of evil to support him.  Then you use your money and influence to make sure that various tricks are used in the other major party (running several candidates selected to draw-off  the strength of any real-for-sure  good-person candidates, to divide-and-conquer the good voters' votes) to raise up your scarecrow candidate who is almost as evil as they guy you want but is twice as ugly (in appearance and personality) so that voters will be repulsed and terrified by that alternative candidate you have forced upon them  and will therefore be driven to vote for your actually most-evil chosen candidate of the first party.  Mr. Greater Evil will be voted in  because nearly-as-evil is a little uglier and can easily be made to appear to many as greater evil.    And everybody falls for the trick -- the vote in fear, instead of voting for the best man and program.

Now imagine all that but now add that there is the really good man who is right on all the issues and does not back away from telling people what is really going on and fearlessly states what he will do about it  and these are the things that you know needs doing.  To know this man is immediately to realize that he would be a great and good president  -- a rocket scientist, a jet fighter pilot with 100 missions, a lion when it comes to understanding what really happened on 9-11 and taking the evidence to people all around the country and a man who understands international organized crime running investment banks and corporations and knows how they are running it and how to stop them and how to set the country back up the way you know it needs to be.  But no evil billionaire is bankrolling him and the American people have been dumbed down and castrated so they don't realize and don't have the pepper to lift that good man on their shoulders do whatever it takes to get him elected and placed (alive) in office.    For most people picking candidates up to  billionaires with checkbooks handy --  you just have to accept it, like the programming on television tonight or the menu on the wall at McDonalds.  But should YOU accept that?  Or should you decide "to hell with lesser-evilism"  and with "let somebody else do it."   -- the room is filling with water and you are already standing on a table with the water line up to your neck and the top of your head is already touching the ceiling  -- isn't it really time you try something a little different and a little more strenuous?

Whom should you vote for?

Heather van Dooran says vote for the lesser evil.

Dick Eastman says, even at this late hour, you should organize to draft the man who can save the country, you should pour on everything you've got to make  Bob Bowman our next president.

Whom do YOU say we should vote for?

(Remember, Ron Paul was just one of those divide and conquer tricks  -- his message has been put out and it didn't take  -- he ommitted too much of what we know to be the essential truth of the present situation and his solutions are really anarcho-capitalist solutions favored by the billionaire elites themselves  --  make Americans pay their massive debt in gold and make them by the gold by going deeper into debt for it etc.  Enough saw through Ron Paul that his campaign went nowhere -- except to distract people from the real Washington of our day.)

Never vote for evil  -- period.

Find the best man for the job -- and make your best effort to put him in office until election day.  At the same time contribute support to whatever candidate who is really a positive good  who looks like he has a chance.  On election day if you man is not on the ballot vote for anyone who is good.  Do not vote at all if you only have a choice of evils.

I am supporting Bob Bowman.  There is still time for a third party candidate to enter the race and win.  All it will take is people resolving not to vote for evil under any circumstance.

But I thought David Duke was the Poster Child for the Republikanische Partei:  "States rights".  "Kill the queers."  "Put the blacks back in their place."  "White is right."  "God's Own Party."   Everything which the Republikanische Partei and its members stand for.

Don't tell me the Partei is trying to back away from David Duke the way it's trying to back away from Georg Bush.

Bruce asked Bob Bowman the  important question.  Bruce does not share with us the answer he received.   I have provided a complete answer to that question below.  At the reform conference Ellsberg got to the microphone and spoke defeat -- the republic is dead.  Dr. Bowman was not given the microphone -- yet  Bowman himself and what he represents  is the living answer to Ellsberg. The republic envisioned by our founding fathers and nourished in the hearts of the people throughout our darkening history  is  not  dead,  and it's too early to quit and let it die without a fight.  The way is still open to take back America for the people.  I am convinced that  Bob Bowman -- alone among all the leaders on the scene-- has the ability and the courage and the heart  to pull us out of the nosedive we are now in and get us on course  to our desired destination.  Read and view  everything below and I am sure you will reach the same conclusion.

Friends: Last night's rally may have been the last of American reformism.
Can cancer be reformed? You judge. Elsberg was long and windy
but made the point clearly. America is dead in the water with NSA.!!!!!

The Republic can't be reformed even if Obama was Jesus-reincarnate!
The highlight for me was the song by a pastor's wife "Impeach the Bastards!".

That song must go to #1 on the music charts.
That would be a great start on the process of transforming America.
My question to DR. Bob Bowman last night,
who was not given the stage by Hutch,
was where is the peoples' energy?

. So I asked Bob,
"Where is the Peoples Party???"

He kinda shriveled on those questions.
Come on with the answer, Bob!

I know this is a pesty email but an important question especially
after Elsberg's deathknell for the Constitutional Democracy
...and we do use the term democracy loosely. ...

Without oil NH would last less than a week as to food. ...

Dick Eastman answer:   Bob Bowman is making the contribution -- he is the candidate to run in a "Peoples Party" or National Unity Coalition Effort.  But it is not his job to go door to door hand out campaign buttons.  The real champion of the people is drafted by the people because his is the best.  Bowman has gone around the country not as a candidate, presenting the truth about 9-11 and about the corrupt system.  But there is no billionaire to give Bowman boost.  There is no media to paste his name as "news."  The organized ruling minority can mobilize operatives to raise up an organization for McCain or Clinton or even a Ron Paul or Kucinich if one is needed to absorb opposition in dead-end candidacies.  But what Bruce needs to understand that it is his responsibility, to lift Bowman on his shoulders and start the march to Washington.  Bowman cannot lift himself on his own shoulders.  Clearly Bruce sees Bowman as the man.  Bob Bowman has run for the Presidency before -- he knows that  IF THE SUPPORTERS DO NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR LIFTING UP AND ADVANCING THE RIGHT MAN  -- IF THEY JUST WANT TO PASSIVELY CLICK A MOUSE ON A COMPUTER POLL (SET UP BY THE ENEMY) AND PUSH A VOTING MACHINE BUTTON ON A MENU OF NAMES FOR WHICH THEY TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY -- THEN IT IS HOPLESS.  ASKING BOB BOWMAN  -- "HEY BOB, WHY DON'T YOU GO OUT AND START AN ORGANIZATION AND BECOME PRESIDENT!"  I CAN SEE WHY BOWMAN MAY HAVE BEEN SPEECHLESS.  DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM TELLING YOU, BRUCE???

I have some new material on Bob Bowman to share with you.

Here is a letter from Dr. Bowman on how he would address the nation as president.

17 Aug 2007
by Dr. Rob ert M. Bowman, Lt. Col., USAF, ret.; National Commander, The Patriots

I am going to ask you to pretend that I am speaking to you as President of the United States and giving my State of the Union Address shortly after inauguration. Your role is as Members of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Cabinet, and various dignitaries. Your task, as is always the case in these events, is to cheer and clap like crazy when you hear something you agree with . and to sit on your hands when you don't. The purpose of this is, of course, to let the people watching on television know what they're supposed to think. Seated behind me are the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate (the Vice President of the United States ).
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Madam Speaker, Madam President, distinguished Members of the Congress, honored guests, and my fellow Americans: The United States is unquestionably number one in the industrialized world: number one in our use of the world's resources, number one in the production of pollution, number one in the gap between the rich and the poor, number one in deaths by gunfire, number one in teen pregnancy, number one in poverty among the elderly, number one in citizens without health coverage, number one in child poverty, number one in homeless veterans, and number one in citizens behind bars. We are the world's #1 debtor nation, #1 in the creation of new billionaires, #1 in school dropouts, #1 in poverty, homelessness, hunger, divorce, suicide, and (oh yes) #1 in military force, nuclear weapons, and military spending -- as much as all the other nations in the world combined. We also lead the world in the number of hours worked per family, since it now takes two wage-earners and three jobs to provide the income earned with one 40 hour per week job in the 1950s. Despite soaring productivity, real wages are now a third of what they were in the 1950s. If it wasn't for corporate control of our government and the resulting trickle-down economics, ordinary workers could support their families with one job . working two days a week! Would you like to have a five-day weekend every week? If worker pay had kept pace with executive pay, the average worker would now be making a million dollars a year!! and the minimum wage would be $171 an hour!
What do you call a country in which the gap between the rich and the poor is growing beyond bounds, whose principal exports are wood pulp and scrap metal, whose principal imports are manufactured goods, and whose fastest-growing industry is the construction and operation of private prisons? A third world country. That is the state of the union we have inherited.
In our government's drive to protect the far-flung financial interests of multinational corporations, we have abandoned our principles and fought wars of aggression against small countries. We have overthrown popularly-elected leaders and installed puppet dictators who sell out their own people to our corporations. In our drive toward a corporate New World Order, we have sold out our workers, our families, our environment, our children's futures, and the American dream. This too is the state of the union we have inherited.
We have had the opportunity to create a land without want. What went wrong? Why are our workers paid such a tiny percentage of their true worth? Why are we the only major nation without a national health program? Why are our high school graduates two years behind their counterparts in other countries? Why are we hated by so many around the world? Why do we have hundreds of thousands of troops patrolling foreign lands and supporting foreign dictators? What is going on?
The answer, I'm afraid, is that we have lost our republic. Legislators no longer represent the people who elect them, but the corporations who finance them. They answer not to their constituents, but to the lobbyists who line their pockets and fill their campaign coffers.
For years now, through both major political parties, the world's billionaires have directed U.S. policy for their own personal profit. This has included agreements like NAFTA, CAFTA, and the World Trade Organization falsely portrayed as supporting free trade, but in reality promoting free investment , overturning U.S. laws, and putting American workers in competition with those in the Third World . NAFTA, for example, has destroyed the standard of living and quality of life on BOTH sides of the Rio Grande , and by driving Mexican farmers off the land, has been largely responsible for the flood of illegal immigrants into our country.
Corporate control of our government has also resulted in a series of wars, from Iraq to Bosnia to Kosovo to Afghanistan to Iraq again -- wars which are never in the interest of those fighting them, or of the families left behind . wars which only serve the insatiable greed of the global investor class.
Those of us who dedicate our lives to peace, economic justice, and environmental preservation can make little progress in our struggles so long as ultimate power is in the hands of those who profit from war, poverty, and pollution.
Well, I didn't get here tonight by taking corporate millions. I didn't get here by selling myself to the oil companies, the pharmaceutical companies, the insurance companies . . To be quite honest, I'm not sure how I got here! But here I am, and as long as I am President of the United States , this government will serve the needs of the people, not the greeds of the wealthy elite.
Turning things around won't be easy. What our Constitution empowers me to change, I shall. But for much of what needs doing, I will need the cooperation of you in Congress, and I ask for it tonight. The Constitution does not make me "the decider," only the proposer and the implementer. You, the people's representatives, are the deciders. I am therefore vacating all the over 800 signing statements imposed by my predecessor. I'm revoking Presidential Directives 20 and 51, which give me dictatorial powers. I ask for repeal of the misnamed Patriot Act and all the martial law and special and dictatorial powers acts passed in the last seven years. This is not a monarchy!
But I warn you members of Congress. If you continue to violate your Constitutional responsibility to serve your constituents, and instead serve only yourselves and the big money interests you are indebted to, if you ignore the Constitution and attempt to protect the crooked corporate-dominated status quo, I will go over your heads to the American people and ask them to retire all of you, regardless of party.
We must sever the connection between big money and political power. This means electoral reform and media reform. The latter can be done now. I have ordered the Federal Communications Commission to reinstate the equal time rules and to reimplement the ban on multiple ownership. A free press is incompatible with corporate monopoly domination of the media.
Electoral reform is a little more complicated. The immediate need is for paper ballots. We also need Instant Runoff Voting, Proportional Representation, the elimination of burdensome petition requirements for qualifying third party and independent candidates, making Election Day a federal holiday so working people can actually vote, and true campaign finance reform.
Once we succeed in separating big money and political power, everything becomes possible. In this richest of nations, we can and we will guarantee every American access to a good education, a decent job at a living wage, and health care. As a conservative, I believe that the only fiscally responsible way to provide universal health care is to kick the insurance companies out of health care completely with a doctor-run single-payer national health program.
We will also guarantee every American the undiluted protections of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Fear of terrorism is not going to make this nation a police state.
As a step toward the living wage, I propose that the Minimum Wage be indexed for inflation and, over a ten year period, be raised to what it would have been had it been so indexed at its creation (currently over $14 an hour).
As you know, the previous administration resigned under threat of impeachment over their exploitation of the 9/11 tragedy to deceive this nation into unnecessary and illegal wars of aggression. They still face court-martial proceedings over abuse of power as Commander in Chief. The evidence of their guilt was overwhelming. This evidence is in the PNAC document calling for the permanent occupation of Iraq justified by a "new Pearl Harbor ." It is in Richard Clarke's book in which he notes an immediate attempt by the Bush administration to tie Iraq to 9/11 - regardless of the facts. It is in videotaped statements of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld themselves using 9/11 to justify the Iraq War. It is in CIA documents showing that Wolfowitz, Perle, Libby, Feith, and others "cherry picked" intelligence for use by Cheney and their other bosses. It is in the Downing Street memo which says that the intelligence was being tailored to fit the policy. And it is in speeches by me and others prior to the invasion of Iraq , in which we laid out the truth, predicted the inevitable results, and noted that such an invasion would be an impeachable offense and an act of treason.
There is also evidence of a massive cover-up with respect to 9/11 itself. T he official 9/11 Report, tightly controlled by the White House, amounts to little but a whitewash. When combined with the confiscation of videotapes, audio tapes, black boxes, and other evidence by the FBI, it is clear that regardless of who was responsible for 9/11, the subsequent cover-up was itself a conspiracy involving elements of the White House and the intelligence establishment.
This is important because, remember, Richard Nixon wasn't undone by the two-bit break-in at the Watergate, but for the cover-up. Bill Clinton wasn't impeached for his sexual encounters with Monica Lewinsky, but for stretching the truth when asked about it. Scooter Libby wasn't convicted for leaking Valerie Plame's identity, but for lying about when he learned about it. Martha Stewart didn't serve time for insider trading, but for not telling the truth. Is there ANYONE who believes the Bush administration always told the TRUTH about 9/11?
This raises the question, "If the Bush Administration had nothing to hide, why did they hide everything?" Were they covering up guilt or incompetence? If it was incompetence, why was no one demoted or fired or court-martialed or even reprimanded? If they were protecting guilty parties, are they Saudis? Pakistanis? Israelis? Americans? All the above? And why on earth aren't the people's representatives in Congress asking these questions . and demanding answers?
The American people have still not been told who was really responsible for 9/11. Dedicated researchers [like Dr. David Ray Griffin, Dr. Kevin Barrett , and Dr. Steven Jones] have proven that it could not have happened the way the Bush administration said it did. Hijacked airliners do not fly around for an hour and 40 minutes without being intercepted . unless our air defense system was deliberately sabotaged. Indestructible "black boxes" are not vaporized by the same fire from which undamaged passports float to the street below. Steel skyscrapers do not implode and collapse at free-fall speed because of a kerosene fire. Steel buildings do not collapse at all because of a kerosene fire (never have and never will). And building seven wasn't even struck by an airplane. {3 minute video of WTC 7} Millions of 9/11 Truthers consider this the "smoking gun" that "proves" 9/11 was an inside job. But even if they're wrong, even if the Bush administration's official conspiracy theory was essentially correct, [you know, the one about 19 Arabs with box-cutters and an old man on a dialysis machine in a cave. Even if that official conspiracy theory was essentially correct,] the American people would still need to know (for example) why our multi-trillion dollar defense establishment failed to protect even their own headquarters from an unarmed aircraft. The truth about 9/11 is that after six years we still don't know the truth about 9/11 . and we should. I am therefore appointing a commission to conduct a new and truly-independent investigation of 9/11. It will have oversight by a few of you in Congress, by Senator Max Cleland, by Dr. David Ray Griffin, theologian, of the 9/11 Truth movement, by Karen Breitweiser and Mindy Kleinberg, Jersey girls, representing the families of victims, and by Sibel Edmonds and other whistle-blowers in the FBI. They will have full subpoena power, able to require sworn public testimony from anyone up to including me and the former president and vice president. I think we've had enough so-called testimony behind closed doors with no oaths and no transcripts. This time, we want the truth! The new commission will examine all the evidence, even that which seems to contradict the official story (and there's a mountain of it), and it will have no predetermined conclusions about who the conspirators were. (They won't even assume Cheney is guilty.) There have been all too many Pearl Harbors , Gulfs of Tonkin, 9/11s, and Reichstag Fires. We must make it clear that the truth will out. Never again must we allow this nation to be stampeded into war under false pretenses.
Speaking of war, the new Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and I have redefined two basic missions for our armed forces: (1) deterring anyone from attacking the United States with weapons of mass destruction, and (2) defending our shores and borders from foreign invasion. Period. This redefinition of mission will, after a few years of transition, result in a peace dividend of $400 Billion per year . with no one joining the ranks of the jobless. Until new contracts come out for renewable energy, non-polluting transportation, and the rebuilding of our infrastructure, there are to be no layoffs. If we can pay farmers not to grow crops, we can pay engineers and machinists not to build weapons.
Among the new weapons they will NOT build are new nuclear weapons and "Star Wars" weapons in space.
The part of the defense budget which is absolutely inviolable is that part which takes care of our veterans. The VA must be fully funded. The cost of caring for the disabled combat veterans from the Iraq War alone will be in the trillions of dollars over their lifetimes. But it is a cost we must bear. The signature wound of this war is brain trauma. Yet the Bush Administration slashed the budget for the Brain Trauma Center by 50%. To create so many thousands of disabled veterans in their wars of aggression and then refuse to take proper care of them was perhaps the worst sin of the Bush administration. The care of those wounded in action, wracked by PTSD, and poisoned by Depleted Uranium is NOT a discretionary expenditure to be avoided by delay, denial, and bureaucratic red tape. It is a solemn obligation of this government, and it will be met.
In the last half a century, the United States has gone from savior of the civilized world to the number one rogue nation on earth. As a result, despite spending a billion and a half dollars a day on military power, the American people are less secure today than at any time since the end of the Civil War. The expenditure of fourteen trillion dollars since World War II has brought our people only more insecurity, massive debt, and the loss of many of the cherished rights enshrined in our Constitution.
It's time for the cycle to end. It's time to end the belligerence, bring home our troops, and rejoin the family of nations. And that's what we're going to do.
To set the stage for discussing our plans for Iraq , I would like to give you a little historical background. First, I'd like to read a few excerpts from a speech I gave to an anti-war rally on February 15, 2003 , a month before the Iraq War started.
"Saddam Hussein is a bad guy. He's a bad guy now. He was a bad guy in 1990 when April Glaspie of the State Department gave him the green light to invade Kuwait . He was a bad guy in the 1980s when Donald Rumsfeld sat down with him for a chat while Saddam was supposedly gassing the Kurds. He was a bad guy in 1977 when Zbigniew Brzezinski met with him and proposed the invasion of Iran . And he was a bad guy in the 1960s when the CIA hired him to assassinate Iraqi leader Abdel Karim Qassim and then helped Saddam take over Iraq . He's always been a bad guy. But he was always our bad guy. Right up to 1990, official DoD documents praised Saddam for vastly improving the education, medical care, and standard of living of his people, along with women's rights and religious freedom. His regime was called one of the most enlightened, progressive governments in the region . and it was.
"But there was a problem. The Berlin wall had come down and the Soviet Union had collapsed. The first Bush White House had to find another bad guy - fast, to justify the defense budget. And they did -- Saddam Hussein. They suckered him into attacking Kuwait , and the first Gulf War was on.
"Now the second President Bush wants his Gulf War too. But starting a preemptive war against Iraq : (1) would be immoral. (2) would be costly, in terms of American lives and in dollars. (3) would require us to keep troops in Iraq indefinitely. (4) would come between us and our allies. (5) would incense the Arab world. (6) would provide Osama bin Laden with thousands of new recruits, and (7) would therefore greatly increase the terrorist threat.
"As a combat veteran, I will not stand idly by and watch our security destroyed by a president who went AWOL rather than fight in Vietnam .
"When I joined the Air Force, I swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies -- foreign and domestic. That includes a renegade president. If they go ahead with this war, I will call for the impeachment of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and the whole oil mafia. This war would be treason! God bless America ! And God save us from George W. Bush!"
That was Feb 15, 2003 . A month later, troops were massed in Kuwait , but "Shock and awe" hadn't yet started. This is a little of what I said on Mar 15, 2003 , on the eve of the war.
"I've been severely criticized for speaking out in opposition to this coming war. We're told that we're aiding and abetting the enemy. We're told that we should support the president no matter what. Well I say, "Hogwash!"
"I feel an affinity for the troops deployed in Kuwait . They are my comrades in arms. But the truth is, they are not over there protecting our freedoms. Our freedoms are not under attack by Saddam Hussein. Our freedoms are under attack by John Ashcroft. They are threatened by John Poindexter. They are trampled by Donald Rumsfeld. They are disdained by Dick Cheney. And they are not even understood by George W. Bush.
"The troops surrounding Iraq are not protecting us. We are protecting them . and their honor . and their freedoms . by speaking truth to power.
"Here is the truth that we proclaim. This coming war has nothing to do with national security or freedom or democracy or human rights or protecting our allies or weapons of mass destruction or defeating terrorism or disarming Iraq . It has to do with money. It has to do with oil. And it has to do with raw imperial power. And it is wrong.
"A preemptive war would be immoral, illegal, unconstitutional, a war crime against the people of Iraq , and treason against the United States of America ."
That was Mar 15, 2003 , on the eve of the Iraq War. Now the point of this bit of history is that we in the peace movement knew better. We weren't taken in by the doctored and manipulated intelligence and the outright untruths we were told to justify this war.
One more little bit of history. I would like to quote briefly from the memoirs of the first President Bush, written before his son got the job.
"Trying to eliminate Saddam .. would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. . there was no viable 'exit strategy' we could see. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land."
My sisters and brothers, it's just too darn bad his son doesn't read!
Now here we are four years and 3,700 American lives later. This misguided war has cost more American lives than 9/11 and has dragged on longer than World War II. Yet we still have no accountability for how this war started. We know that most of you lily-livered members of Congress from both parties abdicated your Constitutional responsibility to declare war . or not, and gave a blank check to the imperial presidency. We also know that you were lied to by George W. Bush and his people. What I can't figure out is how you believed those lies. I sure didn't. Are the members of Congress that much more stupid than we in the peace movement? Or did you really know better, but were just being lap-dogs for the fat-cats as usual?
Well, in 2006 the Democrats took control of Congress. Months went by . and more months went by, and you still failed to hold President Bush accountable for his lies. What on earth was wrong with you?
It's a hackneyed expression, and you've heard it many times, but it's true: " Clinton lied, no one died." If it was OK to impeach Bill Clinton for fibbing about an event which only embarrassed his family and soiled a blue dress, what took you so long to impeach Cheney and Bush for deceiving us into a war costing so many thousands of lives? Where's the accountability?
If it was right for Richard Nixon to have to resign under threat of impeachment for covering up an attempt to peek at the other party's plans, why was it not right for you to immediately get rid of those responsible not only for two deadly wars of aggression, but also for the loss of habeas corpus, spying on American citizens, torturing suspects in the phony war on terror, saddling our grandchildren with more trillions in debt, giving away our sovereignty with the North American Union, and subverting the Constitution itself? Where is the accountability?
Much changed while George W. Bush was in office. Nearly 3,000 died on 9/11. Many more than that died in his wars and occupations. There are more than 27,000 wounded soldiers whose lives will never be the same. There are tens of thousands of young men and women with serious psychological problems because of what they have seen and what they have done. There are hundreds of thousands poisoned by Depleted Uranium who will suffer lives of pain and disability, and who will father thousands of children with severe birth defects. Our military services are depleted and demoralized. The VA system is overwhelmed. The National Guard and Reserves have been subjected to tour after tour, disrupting lives for even the lucky ones who return unscathed. Jobs have been lost, marriages have been destroyed, homes have been foreclosed, children have been estranged, and natural disasters like Katrina have been undealt with. And still, there was no accountability.
That was just in this country. In Iraq , things were even worse. Religious liberty was lost, mosques, churches, and synagogues which thrived under Saddam were destroyed, women lost their rights and freedoms, essential services were disrupted, people were tortured, hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians were killed, cities like Fallujah lie in ruins, and in spite of heroic efforts by the vast majority of our young men and women in uniform, most of the remaining people of Iraq are much worse off than they were before we "liberated" them.
More than four years of war have destroyed Iraq , destroyed our standing in the world, destroyed our national security, destroyed our civil liberties, destroyed precious lives, and brought our nation to the brink of financial disaster. And it was all predictable, because we in fact predicted it! The hundreds of billions of dollars already spent on this war have not just vanished. They have gone to Condoleezza Rice's Chevron-Texaco and Dick Cheney's Halliburton and George Bush's Carlisle Group, and through their lobbyists into the pockets of you Congressional incumbents. Perhaps that's why there has been no accountability.
Well no longer. The American people finally got together and demanded a government which (1) follows the Constitution, (2) honors the truth, and (3) serves the people. And that's exactly what we intend to give them.
I am asking the UN to send peacekeepers to Iraq to do a job we can't do as an occupying army. But whether or not they do, we will leave completely within three months. We are going to support what's left of our troops by bringing them home while they are still alive.
Terrorism is a real threat. In the short term we must protect the American people from the terrorists our misguided policies have already created. This means enhancing port security and strengthening the border patrol and Coast Guard. These we will do.
But in the long term, we must stop making more terrorists. That means stopping policies and actions which make people fear and hate us. It means listening to the legitimate grievances of peoples we have wronged, and then changing our ways. Only one thing has ever ended a campaign of terror (anywhere in the world) -- separating the handful of terrorists from the larger community upon which they depend. This is done by ending the feelings of desperation, hopelessness, and powerlessness afflicting the people. It is done by listening to them and then actually making their lives better. It is not done by revenge and retaliation, which only create more terrorists.
We have at times (including, I think, the last few years) had a government with bad policies. But we are a good people. What we have long needed is a government which reflects the values and goodness of the American people.
Our values and goodness are not reflected by a government which violates international law in its conflicts and denies its own citizens their Constitutional rights. I have therefore ordered the release of all those being detained without charge, the closure of the prison at Guantanamo Bay (we'll find somewhere else for Bush and Cheney), and the end of the "rendition" program in which suspects are kidnapped and taken to secret foreign prisons to be tortured. All contracts for mercenaries, including those with Blackwater, are being cancelled. This includes contracts with DoD, CIA, and the Department of Homeland Security (which, by the way, is being abolished). There will be no more Blackwater goons terrorizing the poor people of New Orleans .
I have also pardoned a host of political prisoners, including Border Patrol agents jailed for 12 years for doing their job against a Mexican drug smuggler bringing 700 pounds of cocaine across the border. Agents Campean and Ramos are now free. I have also pardoned Leonard Peltier and Mumia Abu Jamal, and I've given a blanket pardon to all those convicted of the possession or use of small amounts of marijuana.
(I must admit to you, however, that I have NOT pardoned Scooter Libby. He will at least have to pay his fine.)
Our values and goodness are not reflected by a government which promotes a globalization which depresses living standards at home and allows corporations to destroy the quality of life in banana republics and client states all over the world. The WTO, the IMF, and the World Bank have caused untold suffering. If we can't reform them, we will abolish them.
With respect to our relationship with the government of Mexico, I have ordered (1) the cancellation of the "Security and Prosperity Partnership" or "North American Union", (2) abandonment of plans for a NAFTA Super Highway which would have put nearly all American longshoremen and truckers out of work, and (3) suspension of NAFTA completely until Mexico gives its workers union rights, protections for safety, health, and the environment, and wages at least matching the US federal Minimum Wage.
From now on, globalization will mean raising living standards in developing nations to match ours - not the other way around.
Our values and goodness are not reflected by a system in which all our personal income taxes go to pay interest on a staggering national debt created out of thin air. The Constitution authorizes Congress to print our money, not a private cartel. I ask Congress to pass legislation abolishing the Federal Reserve.
Our values and goodness are not reflected by a government which uses our money to train death squads in the techniques of torture, intimidation, and assassination. The School of the Americas (by whatever name they choose to call it) will be closed. [As Commander-in-Chief, I have ordered that the students presently attending the School be shown the movies "Romero" and "Panama Deception" and then sent home.]
Our values and goodness are not reflected by a government which gives Most Favored Nation status to the butchers of Tienanmen Square and places an illegal secondary embargo on the impoverished people of Cuba . The embargo of Cuba must end! And it just did.
I recognize that we need advance information on the activities of Al Qaeda and those who wish to do us harm. But our values and goodness are not reflected by, and our security is not enhanced by, an organization which promotes instability, insurrection, tyranny, torture, terrorism, murder, and war around the world in our name and with our money. If the CIA won't stick to gathering intelligence, I will abolish it.
Our values and goodness are not reflected by a government which sends its working-class youth around the world to kill the sons and daughters of working people in other countries. Our values and goodness are not reflected by sending our children to the Middle East to kill Arabs so the oil companies can profit from selling the oil under other people's sand, making us the target of terrorists.
No more Iraqs . No more Kosovos. No more El Salvadors. These are not isolated incidents of stupidity. They are part of a long, bloody history of foreign policy being conducted for the financial interests of the wealthy few. It is a new form of colonialism. It violates our Constitution. It endangers our national security. It mortgages our future. It sacrifices our children. It must stop . and it just did.
As president, I will use the men and women in our Armed Forces to protect our borders and our people, not the financial interests of Folgers, Chiquita Banana, Exxon, and Halliburton. Needless to say, there will be NO nuclear attack on Iran . My special envoy to the Middle East , Jimmy Carter, will be meeting with them to solve our differences. Once he has finished there, he will straighten out the Israelis and Palestinians.
With over sixty years having passed since World War II, and with the Cold War long since over, I see no reason why we should still be occupying Germany and Japan . Our global military presence will end within two years. This is not isolationism. It is common sense. It is in the security interest of our people. And it is obeying our Constitution for a change.
Instead of a worldwide military presence, we are going to have a humanitarian presence. Along with the other wealthy nations of the world, we shall initiate a new Marshall Plan, providing funds to rebuild the Middle East as we rebuilt Europe after World War II. We will also have a Domestic Marshall Plan, fulfilling the unkept Bush promises to rebuild New Orleans and the surrounding area. In addition, we will take the lead in complete debt forgiveness for the poorest countries, starting with those in Africa . If we are once again to be a great nation, we must first be a good nation.
Finally, I'd like to speak directly to the American people. I understand that I am but an interim president. I could never have been elected under the present system. I know. I tried in 2000. And I am unlikely to even finish out this term -- partly because I have terminal cancer from Agent Orange, and partly because there are powerful interests with hundreds of billions of reasons for wanting me assassinated. (By the way, if you hear that I have suddenly committed suicide . by shooting myself in the back . with a shotgun . three times, you might be just a little suspicious. They'll call you a conspiracy theorist, but be suspicious anyway.) But, you know, it won't matter. They can kill me, but they can't kill what we have started. It's too late for that. My words, heard tonight by a few, will tomorrow reach many. Through the internet, the vision of The Patriots will spread across the land and around the globe. You, the American people, will not let it die.
I am unlikely to get there with you, but like Brother Martin, I have been to the mountain top, and I have seen the Promised Land.
What I have seen is an America in which every person (regardless of their race, creed, color, age, or sexual orientation) is valued and lives in dignity, every person is cared for, and every person is free to reach his or her full potential.
It is an America in which every family can be supported by one wage-earner with one job paying a living wage. It is an America in which single parents can freely choose to stay home to care for their children or to work outside the home knowing that their children are taken care of in a safe and nurturing environment. It is an America in which health care is provided to all as a right. It is an America in which our youth spend two years in the American World Service Corps, perhaps serving in the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps or Habitat for Humanity or some other worthy organization, in exchange for their higher education, including whatever advanced education the person can successfully handle. It is an America in which educators and teachers are highly valued and financially compensated accordingly. It is an America in which policemen, nurses, poets, firefighters, teachers, and garbage collectors can afford a good house in a nice neighborhood and live in comfort, not just scientists, brain surgeons, CEOs, rock stars, lawyers, and basketball players. It is an America whose borders are secure, immigrants are legal, and workers are amply rewarded. It is an America in which faith is respected, culture is preserved, the arts are supported, and the Constitution is followed.
It is an America that seeks not to be king of the hill nor subservient to the World Trade Organization, but to be a responsible
sovereign member of the family of nations (nothing more, and nothing less) . an America that is free of the threat of terrorism because it is no longer feared and hated . an America that leads the world -- not just with military might, but with its vision, its compassion, its democracy, its productivity, its freedom, its standard of living, its care for the global environment, its treatment of its own people, and its goodness. Above all, it is an America at peace with the world and with its own people. That's the America I have seen, the America our people deserve, and the America you can build . and you don't need me to do it.
Spread the word. Keep the dream alive. Drop your own pebbles in the pond and make some waves. Never vote for any politician who takes money from corporations or lobbyists, and never elect a president who raises a hundred million dollars from special interests or is the darling of the corporate media. If you can't find anyone worth voting for, run for office yourself. Cleave to your sisters and brothers all across the political spectrum in demanding the basic reforms I've outlined tonight, and never settle for anything less than government of the people, by the people, and especially for the people.
I know it wasn't original to him, but my old friend, William Sloane Coffin, used to say, "He who makes peaceful change impossible makes violent revolution inevitable." Let us be thankful for our many blessings, bringing us this far on our journey; and let us pray that this, our inevitable second American revolution, will continue to be a nonviolent one.
It matters not if my presidency is real or fanciful. My part is done. It is finished. The rest is in your hands. The future and the dream itself depend on you. May God sustain you in your struggles and bless America through your actions. Thank you, and good night.

April 12, 2006 Response to DailyKos contributors' questions regarding Dr. Bob's credentials:
I would like to clarify a few things. First, every claim on my web site  http://thepatriots.us/pg_02_Bowman_02.html   is absolutely true. There is no inflation or exaggeration. I received the SAME ROTC Award of Merit in 1955 and again in 1956. I received the Republic Aviation Airpower Award in 1956. All three of these awards were for my service in the Air Force ROTC. The SAME award was for being one of the ten outstanding cadets in the country. I received it as a junior and again as a senior. It was a pretty coveted honor at the time. In 1956 I was the first student in the history of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (founded 1824) to graduate in Aeronautical Engineering with a perfect 4.0 academic record. And I did it while taking graduate Nuclear Engineering courses as an overload as well as AFROTC. The President's Medal of Veterans For Peace (and I still have the medal) was awarded by VFP in about 1985 for my successful efforts to keep Reagan's "Star Wars" weapons out of space. I have been the keynote speaker at VFP national conventions on four different occasions. The George F. Kennan Peace Prize was awarded to me in the 1980s by a national peace group (I forget which one) for my efforts to bring us through the Cold War without nuclear conflict. The Eisenhower Medal was awarded in the late 1980s by a peace group in California for battling the military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about. I was the first recipient. I don't know if there were ever others. I have received many other awards. These were listed because they were the most meaningful to me.
As for my preaching, most of it was done BEFORE I became an independent Catholic clergyman. As a matter of fact, at the time I was invited to speak before the Pontifical Academy of Science in Rome, I was an Episcopalian and a layman. Same for the time I spoke at a synagogue in Hollywood, CA, a Russian Orthodox seminary in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), and a mosque in Azerbaijan. All these were before I became an Old Catholic and was ordained. Since then, I have preached in Episcopal and Lutheran churches but not in Roman Catholic churches. They are very touchy about "schismatic" Catholics. By the way, I am retiring as Presiding Bishop of the United Catholic Church in order to pursue my campaign for Congress. My successor will formally take over at our Synod June 1st - 4th in Branson, MO.
I'm surprised that no one questioned my having directed all the "Star Wars" programs under Presidents Ford and Carter. Most Americans swallowed Reagan's 1983 claim to have invented the whole thing. So they don't think it existed under Ford and Carter. But my statement is entirely accurate. I directed all the "Star Wars" programs from 1976 to 1978 when their existence was secret (and some of the details much more highly classified than that). I even used the term "Star Wars" in a secret report I wrote in 1977. Officially, these programs didn't have a name, just a number. That's so Congress wouldn't know they were funding laser battle stations and such. It didn't become "SDI" until 1984. I have copies of the Congressional Record from 1982 (the year BEFORE Reagan's infamous "Star Wars" speech) in which Senator Proxmire and Congressman Moakley reprinted unclassified articles of mine in which I used the term "Star Wars" and pointed out the strategic dangers of weapons in space. (By then the Reagan administration had de-classified a great deal. Back in the 1970s I couldn't even use the words "laser" and "space" in the same sentence without the whole document becoming classified.)
And how come nobody questioned my Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Nuclear Engineering from Caltech (1966)? That's by far the hardest thing I've ever done.
I appreciate the opportunity to discuss these things. I'm an OLD guy, and I've done a lot of things. (Did I mention I have seven children and twenty-one grand-children?) When I look back on my life, I can hardly believe it myself. But I assure you, it is 100% true. I have to be very careful, because people often rewrite my stuff and change it to be more "accurate." Often they say I directed "the Strategic Defense Initiative." But that is not true. SDI didn't start until I had been retired for six years! So when I catch it, I change it back. Having been a whistleblower for 24 years, and having run for President of the United States, I am very careful about the claims I make, and about the claims my staff and supporters make about me. I'm always having to tone them down and restore truthfulness.
By the way, my military service is a matter of public record. I flew 101 combat missions in Vietnam, was stationed in Korea twice, and did a horde of things not touched on in my web site. For most of my Internet career, I've been my own webmaster. Now I have one who does stuff for me. Sometimes something slips by me. If you spot anything, let me know. But chances are, it's true. After all, truth is stranger than fiction. And I don't blame folks for thinking my background is strange. I know. I lived it. Now can we get back to the issues and our efforts to "Take Back America" for the people?

Subject: Warning about Alan Keyes!!!!! Re: Alan Keyes to announce break with GOP in Hazleton, PA

Warning!!!

Alan Keyes was neo-con Bill Krystol's (Trotsky in the blood)  roommate in college.  Keyes has run for President in the past and for the same reason.  He ran to drain off Protestant Christians from pro-life Catholic Pat Buchannan so a Rockefeller candidate could win the nomination.   When Keyes campaigned  he only addressed Protestant Christian groups -- no other interests groups got any attention.  It was so transparant to anyone with brains what he was doing.  I once called him up on his radio program out of DC and suggested this to him.  He flew into a rage so violent that I am sure no one listening doubted for a second that I had hit the hidden truth.

Ventura and Keyes are out of the woodwork to keep you from backing Bowman.  (And that is what Kucinich and Ron Paul have been in the race to do to.)

No one but Bob Bowman both knows what must be done (like you and me) and has the leadership and qualification to be given the  missionand to accomplish it.

It takes Billionaire Backing to run for President.  Bowman doesn't have it.  Suddenly Keyes thinks he can get it.  Does THAT tell you anything?

Here is why he is in the race.  To draw away Christian black voters from Obama should Obama be the nominee.  If Hillary gets the nomination, Keyes will back out.  If Obama gets it, Keyes will elect McCain.

Do you know that Ross Perot who ran in the 1992 election as the Reformed party candidate (a party he created) against George H W Bush and Bill Clinton.  But it was GHW Bush who earlier had nominated Perot to the Council on Foreign Relations (of which all three candidates were members.)  When they debated that year they were not adversaries  -- they chose to debate on bar stools right next to each other  -- these were not adversaries, but fellow accomplices in a fixed game.  Clinton was the candidate that the oligarchy had tagged to run the country.  Perot was there to make sure that all opposition to the CFR was sucked up into his campaign and driven over a cliff.     And in 1996 Perot did the same thing.  Also in 2000 thousand Perot came out of nowhere four days before the election and endorsed George W Bush -- using your misplaced trust in him just one more time.

Bowman is a real populist.  He's not trying to fool anyone.

"I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt because I think we've got too many problems we've got to solve."  -- Barak Obama

Obama would avoid a witch-hunt that would lead to patisan bickering -- would have his Aottorny General  review information already there to make sure Bush has not done anything that would warrant an inquiry. Compare this with Bob Bowman who knows 9-11 was false-flag treason.

"I would want to find out directly from my Attorney General -- having pursued, having looked at what's out there right now -- are there possibilities of genuine crimes as opposed to really bad policies. And I think it's important-- one of the things we've got to figure out in our political culture generally is distinguishing betyween really dumb policies and policies that rise to the level of criminal activity. You know, I often get questions about impeachment at town hall meetings and I've said that is not something I think would be fruitful to pursue because I think that impeachment is something that should be reserved for exceptional circumstances."

See:

William Bunch, Monday, April 14, 2008

Tonight I had an opportunity to ask Barack Obama a question that is on the minds of many Americans, yet rarely rises to the surface in the great ruckus of the 2008 presidential race -- and that is whether an Obama administration would seek to prosecute officials of a former Bush administration on the revelations that they greenlighted torture, or for other potential crimes that took place in the White House.

Obama said that as president he would indeed ask his new Attorney General and his deputies to "immediately review the information that's already there" and determine if an inquiry is warranted -- but he also tread carefully on the issue, in line with his reputation for seeking to bridge the partisan divide. He worried that such a probe could be spun as "a partisan witch hunt." However, he said that equation changes if there was willful criminality, because "nobody is above the law."

Don't tell me this is ACCORDING TO LAW. WELFARE FOR THE MONEY LENDERS, THE FED, J.P. MORGAN, and they scream that the government may cut back on Social Security. Auveline

JP Morgan Rolls the Fed of New York

Loans to J.P. Morgan total $55 Billion from the Fed
The Private New York Fed lent $25 Billion to Bear Stearns and another
$30 billion to J.P. Morgan. So the bail out cost was $55 billion not the
$30 billion that is promoted. This was revealed at second session of the
Senate hearings in a James Dimon response to a question from Senator
Reed.

Who gets the $55 billion? J.P. Morgan got the money on a loan pledging
Bear Stearns assets valued at $55 billion; $29 Billion is non-recourse
to Morgan.

Effectively the Fed got collateral appraised by Bear Stearns at $55
Billion for a loan to J.P. Morgan of $55 Billion.

If the value of the secondary facility of $30 Billion ($29 Billion of
which is non-recourse) is worth only $15 Billion when all is said and
done, then J.P. Morgan has to pay back only $1 Billion of the $30
Billion and keeps the $14 Billion the the Fed loses. If the $25 Billion
primary facility is worth only $15 Billion when all is said and done,
J.P. Morgan has to pay $10 Billion of the $25 Billion received. If J.P
Morgan can not pay, then the Fed loses the $10 Billion.

If after all is said and done the $25 Billion primary assets are sold
for more that $25 Billion, the difference goes to J.P. Morgan regardless
of the outcome on the secondary facility of $30 Billion. No matter how
you cut it, J.P. Morgan wins. If the $55 Billion assets turn out to be
worth only $20 billion when all is said and done, J.P. Morgan owes $1
Billion on the $30 Billion and the difference between $25 Billion and
the value received on the primary facility.

The Fed would have been far better to just buy the assets at Bear's and
J.P.Morgan's valuation. Now best the Fed can do is get their money back
with interest and the worse they can do is lose about $25 -$40 billion.

US Fed Responsible for the Credit Crisis

by Hon. Ron Paul

...Worst of all, the Treasury Department has recently proposed that the Federal Reserve, which was responsible for the housing bubble and subprime crisis in the first place, be rewarded for all its intervention by being turned into a super-regulator. The Treasury foresees the Fed as the guarantor of market stability, with oversight over any financial institution that could pose a threat to the financial system. Rewarding poor performing financial institutions is bad enough, but rewarding the institution that enabled the current economic crisis is unconscionable.

Subject: Chinese ambassador -- warns of backlash if Western Media keeps playing human rights issue

I remember the demonizatin of Japan by the Jewish monopoly -- book after book and journal articles and editorials poundd Japan as a monster that would swallow us up  --  media before Japan's economy was sabotaged in the 90's.  Demonization of China may just be for show  -- to let the American people know at election time that the US elite is not cozy with Chinese princelings while in fact that are colluding with them to rob us all blind.  (Note to that in the 90's Japan was going to to spare us all a lot of work with the factory robots it was developing.  Japan was a good and considerate trading party with a pro-middle-class and pro-good-future-for-everyone philosphy  -- then the Zionist International Bankers made their move and China  -- with slave economy and financing advantage that turned Americans penniless debt slaves with nothing to sell.

The western media's "demonisation" of China could lead to a backlash against the west, the Chinese ambassador to London warned yesterday.

Kazakhstan Conspiracy: 5th Largest Wheat-Exporting Nation Cuts All Export  --  Restricting World Supply -- Causing "Run" on "World Food Banks" --   Driving Up Prices and Reducing Quantity Available in Major Man-Made World Crisis.  Remember, Kazakhstan is run by organized crime in bed with International Finance, that created Kazakhstan, and Agribusiness and Oil Corporations.  This is a deliberate restriction of food supplies, causing a deliberate run on world grain supplies.  As they monopolize oil and have been trying to monopolize water, global organized crime -- the perpetrators of 9-11 and the frame-up war against Islam -- they are now forcing their agenda with the most powerful leveraging tool available to them  -- starvation.

Prices soaring as biggest grain exporters halt foreign sales

Daily Dispatches By Javier Blas, Isabel Gorst, and Lindsay Whipp
Financial Times, London
Wednesday, April 16, 2008

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/38cd4d58-0b15-11dd-8ccf-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1

The global food crisis intensified on Tuesday as Kazakhstan, one of the world's biggest wheat exporters, halted foreign sales and rice prices shot to a record high after Indonesia stopped its farmers from selling the grain abroad.

In another sign of turmoil, a big food company in Japan, Nihon Shokuhin Kako, said high corn prices had forced it to buy cheaper genetically modified corn for the first time, breaking a social, though not legal, taboo and signalling that opposition to GM foods could weaken in the face of record food prices.

Meanwhile, fresh wheat export curbs in Kazakhstan, the world's fifth-largest exporter, and the rice bans in Indonesia, threaten to trigger bans in other food exporting countries, which will now face much higher demand from importing countries.

Hussein Allidina at Morgan Stanley in New York said pressure for export bans was likely to increase elsewhere as developing countries suffering high inflation tried to combat rising local prices by cutting back on exports of agriculture commodities.

Indonesia -- which joins Vietnam, Egypt, China, Cambodia, and India in banning foreign sales -- was expected to export the grain this year due to a bumper crop. Corn futures prices in Chicago last week hit a record $6.16 a bushel, up 30 per cent in the past three months.

Indonesia's export ban boosted the price of rice futures in Chicago to a all-time high of $22.17 per 100 pounds, up 63 per cent since January. Wheat prices moved higher to $9.11 a bushel and traders warned prices could rise further as the Kazakhstan ban together with restrictions in Russia, Ukraine, and Argentina have closed a third of the global wheat market.

Greg’s Note: We’ve all heard that gold is a reliable store of value in a down economy. But why? Well our gold expert Adrian Ash takes a look at why this happens and what factors help out gold the most. It seems to me that you can rely on gold no matter what’s going on, and that may just be the case. Enjoy, and send your comments to the managing editor here: greg@...

Gold, Euros and Risk

“Four charts, one metal, and the whole world wrapped up in trying to price risk and reward in a fast-shrinking currency...”

YOU CAN LINK THE HISTORIC SURGE in gold prices starting mid-August 2007 to many apparently disparate things.

Pick the right link and you might be able to tell whether it’s worth you buying or holding gold today.

One such link is the price of money, as decided by the U.S. Federal Reserve. Gold’s stellar 58 percent gain in the seven months starting Aug. 18 began with the Fed’s first change to U.S. interest rates in 18 months.

Last August’s 0.25 percent cut to the Fed’s “discount rate” — the interest rate it charges commercial banks to borrow short-term funds — was the Fed’s first interest rate cut since July 2003. By the end of March 2008, it became a 3.0 percent cut to the bank’s key fed funds target.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~Special~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘Pilbara Profit Secret’
Turns $5,000 into $1,025,150 in Four Years
Starting no later than June 30, 2008, the “Pilbara Profit Secret” could propel SEVEN unknown small caps to stratospheric highs.
It’s already sent one 27-cent stock to $55.63...
Bloomberg reports: “Even the tech boom of the late 1990s pales in comparison...”
Read on to get a ‘ground-floor’ piece of the action...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And gold’s initial jump turned into a pole vault...

The real cost of borrowing dollars — or, rather, the real returns paid to anyone saving money today — clearly impacts the demand for investment gold.

You can measure this real rate of interest quite simply. Just subtract the rate of consumer price inflation (CPI) from the fed funds interest rate, as in the chart above.

Then compare this changing value to the price of gold and you’ll see that when the real returns paid to cash sink below zero, investors and savers tend to pay more — or demand more — for gold.

That’s what investors and savers did in the 1970s. It’s what they then did NOT do again until real U.S. interest rates sank toward and below zero during the first six years of this decade.

Why choose gold when real interest rates sink? Because if central bankers, driven by a fear of “deflation” in asset prices and consumer spending, try to stop the public from hoarding cash, then people will seek out reliable stores of value instead, led by hard assets.

Unlike real estate, however, gold bullion remains a highly liquid, easily priced asset that can store huge quantities of wealth in a very small space.

And gold, as the action since August’s first Fed cut reminds us, has acted as a reliable store of wealth for more than 5,000 years. In times of monetary destruction, or so history says, it’s human nature to seek an escape from fast-shrinking currencies:

Another important connection — also related to the Fed’s new rate-cutting cycle — sits in the currency markets.

In particular, look at the euro/dollar exchange rate. Because as the dollar sank versus the euro in the back half of 2007, daily movements in the U.S. dollar gold price were more strongly linked to the euro than they were to crude oil, the broad commodity markets, and even the price of silver — gold’s poor cousin in the precious metals market.

This “correlation coefficient” would stand at zero if gold’s daily movements bore no relationship whatsoever to the euro. It would be negative if gold rose when the euro slipped back (as happened to oil in the fall, albeit marginally, as the chart shows above). The correlation would stand at 1.00 if they always moved together in lock step.

And as of last month, gold and the euro were more tightly connected (with a correlation of 0.62) than gold and crude oil (0.45) or gold and the broad Goldman Sachs Commodities Index (0.29).

What does this tell us? First, the gold price is behaving much more like a currency than it is acting like a raw material. This is unsurprising given what little use gold has as anything other than a store of value.

Barely 15 percent of last year’s total gold fabrication worldwide ended up in either electronics as gold bonding wire, coating for space shuttle windows, or in people’s teeth as dental fillings. But that lack of apparent practical use — which actually grew by 49 tonnes from 1998, to total 411 tonnes in 2007 — doesn’t mean gold is useless.

You’d hardly say the European single currency holds zero value, correct? But you try fueling a jet engine or building a highway with euros today and no end of bloggers and financial hacks will step up to say your failed experiment just proves that it’s useless.

That’s why smart institutions such as the Royal Bank of Canada trade gold alongside the euro on their currency desks, rather than handing it to their commodity teams. If you think the long-term decline of the dollar is only set to grow worse, you might want to consider joining them:

As you can see, the gold price in euros has risen by more than 160 percent from its lows of 1999, even as the European currency has surged against the dollar.

The upshot? Don’t be misled by that strengthening correlation between gold and the euro. You would still have better rewarded a bearish view of the greenback in gold than in the European single currency or any other major world money. And while the euro has risen 48 percent against the dollar since March 2003, gold outpaced that gain by a further 97 percent on top.

But just before you open a new Internet window and type “Buy gold” into Google today, hang fire for a moment. Because yes, the dollar’s 12 percent loss versus the euro has somehow created a 28 percent gain for European gold investors since last August. And yes, again, the Fed’s new rate-cutting campaign still has no firm end — let alone a reverse — in sight.

But if everything’s lined up for a fresh surge in world gold prices, why did the market pull back so sharply in the middle of March? Plunging 15 percent from its new all-time record above $1,030 per ounce, the gold market now stands some $100 lower. The euro, in contrast, has risen since then. So too has the oil price.

The latest cut to Fed interest rates lopped another 0.75 percent off the gross returns paid to dollars, as well. So why the big swoon?

“This sharp reversal in price cannot be explained by a stronger U.S. dollar,” notes the team at Virtual Metals in London, writing in the April edition of Metals Monthly on behalf of Fortis Bank. “Gold’s decline measured in euros has been larger than in dollars.

“Nor can [the drop] be explained by a reduction in inflationary expectations, as this hasn’t happened,” they go on. “Instead, it seems to be narrowly based on improving sentiment in the credit markets...”

This chart “shows a close relationship since October 2007 between the gold price and the benchmark Markit CDX investment grade index, which measures the risk of credit-swap defaults,” explain Matt Turner, Gary Mead, and Jessica Cross at Virtual Metals.

In plain English, the Markit CDX measures the cost of buying insurance against nonpayment by 100 big corporate borrowers in the United States. And “As the Bear Stearns panic subsided, the index fell sharply, and so did gold.”

Meaning? Gold didn’t only surge on the Fed’s rate-cutting frenzy to mid-March. It also gained as institutional investors ran for cover amid the world-banking crisis — a crisis yet to end.

No one’s to create at will, gold is also no one’s liability — not if it’s owned outright, rather than as a mere credit on a gold dealer’s ledger. Incredibly, London professionals have told BullionVault that around 97 percent of the world’s gold dealing takes place on this kind of “unallocated” basis, attaching a real risk of default to the vast bulk of day-to-day gold trading.

Perhaps that concern explains why, alongside gold futures and exchange-traded gold trust funds, the latest GFMS analysis notes “healthy growth” in physical gold bullion investments, “mainly in allocated accounts.”

This market in late 2007 “was dominated by institutional and high-net worth investors,” the group’s Gold Survey 2008 goes on. “Many of the latter bought gold as a safe haven, soon after the subprime credit crisis erupted.”

Demand from smaller retail investors, in contrast, “grew over the year (and notably in the last couple of months), but its contribution to total investment remained marginal overall.”

In short, the mass of private investors and savers still have yet to buy gold, or even consider it. So if you were concerned that gold might be reaching some kind of bubble, you might want to consider the absence of “last fools” to date.

You might also want to note that, so far, the threat of U.S. corporations defaulting on their debt obligations has been more imagined than real. Just what happens to the price of insuring corporate risk — and the resulting dash into gold — when debt defaults really do start to turn higher?

Regards,
Adrian Ash

Greg’s Endnote: Okay, so now you know why gold is a good investment in the kind of market we’re in now. But there are still some inherent risks when it comes to any investment. That’s why you’re going to want to take on this specific play that is guaranteed never to lose money. Why not? You really have nothing to lose. Click here…

Will the Constitution Be Altered to Eliminate Key Liberties?

By Robert Parry, Consortium News

[]

April 14, 2008 - Though little discussed on the campaign trail, a crucial issue to be decided in November is whether the United States will return to its traditions as a constitutional Republic respecting "unalienable" human rights or whether it will finish a transformation into a frightened nation governed by an all-powerful President who can do whatever he wants during the open-ended "war on terror."

That reality was underscored on April 1 with the release of a five-year-old legal opinion from former Justice Department official John Yoo asserting that President George W. Bush possessed nearly unlimited authority as Commander in Chief, including the power to have military interrogators abuse terror suspects.

While most news coverage of Yoo's March 14, 2003, memo has focused on the legal gymnastics justifying harsh treatment of detainees -- including possible use of mind-altering drugs -- the centerpiece of Yoo's argument is that at a time of war the President's powers are essentially unfettered.

Yoo's memo fits with views expressed by Bush ("The Decider") and many of his top legal advisers. Yoo's opinion also appears to be shared by four conservative Republicans on the U.S. Supreme Court -- John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito -- just one vote shy of a majority.

Yoo's military interrogation memo -- and a similar one he penned for the CIA on torture -- were withdrawn by Assistant Attorney General Jack Goldsmith after he succeeded Yoo as the top official at the Justice Department's powerful Office of Legal Counsel later in 2003. Goldsmith considered Yoo's legal reasoning flawed.

But Goldsmith subsequently was pushed out of the job, and Bush is seeking to fill the vacancy with Steven Bradbury, who signed off on Yoo's "torture memos" while holding a lower position in the Office of Legal Counsel.

In other words, Bush has not given up on his vision of grandiose presidential powers that let him act more like an English monarch before the Magna Carta, who could pick out anyone under his domain and throw the person into prison with no due process and no protection against torture or other abuse.

Under the Bush-Yoo theories, all Bush has to do is pronounce a detainee "an unlawful enemy combatant" -- whether a U.S. citizen or not, whether there is any credible evidence or not -- and the person loses all human rights.

As radical -- and as shocking -- as these theories may seem to many Americans, Bush is within one vote on the U.S. Supreme Court of having his vision enshrined as "constitutional."

One More Vote
If one more vacancy occurs among the five "non-imperial" justices -- and the replacement is in line with Roberts-Scalia-Thomas-and-Alito -- the U.S. Constitution could be effectively altered to eliminate key individual liberties -- from habeas corpus and other fair-trial rights to bans on "cruel and unusual" punishment to protections against self-incrimination and "unreasonable searches and seizures."

Though civics books tell us that the Constitution can only be amended by two-thirds votes of the House and Senate and approval by three-quarters of the states, the reality is that five ideologues on the U.S. Supreme Court can alter the nation's founding document by simply voting as a bloc.

And since the "war on terror" is unlike other wars -- in that the enemy is vaguely defined, the duration could be forever and the war's location can be anywhere -- the Bush-Yoo logic suggests that the de facto suspension of the American constitutional Republic is not just a short-term emergency measure.

Instead, the shift from a Republic, with legal protections of individual rights, to an Empire, led by an Executive who can operate without any constraints, would be permanent. As long as the President says some danger lurks out there, he or she could assert "plenary" -- or total -- powers as commander in chief.

In his memo, Yoo argued that the 9/11 attacks "triggered" America's "right to self-defense." Therefore, he wrote: "If a government defendant were to harm an enemy combatant during an interrogation in a manner that might arguably violate a criminal prohibition, he would be doing so in order to prevent further attacks on the United States by the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

"In that case, we believe that he could argue that the Executive Branch's constitutional authority to protect the nation from attack justified his actions."

Yoo further argued that even abuses that would "shock the conscience" -- one of Bush's standards for what might be considered torture -- could be mitigated by a subjective evaluation of the circumstances.

In other words, if the President or a subordinate judged the detainee to represent some imminent threat or to be particularly odious, they would have an even freer hand to act as they saw fit. Those judgments about shocking the conscience would be left, again, to the Executive to decide unilaterally.

Yoo's two memos were the underpinnings of the Bush administration's treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib and the CIA's secret detention facilities.

The memos gave legal protection to U.S. interrogators and guards who stripped detainees naked, hooded them, put ladies underpants on their heads, paraded them in the nude, beat them, subjected them to extremes of hot and cold, put them into painful stress positions, deprived them of sleep, threatened them with death and -- in three acknowledged cases -- flooded their covered faces with water in a simulated drowning known as waterboarding.

[For more details, see
Neck Deep: The Disastrous Presidency of George W. Bush.]

Shielding Abuses
Yoo's memos shielded interrogators from U.S. military intelligence and the CIA, but did not spare the night guards at Abu Ghraib, who got stiff prison terms after they made the cardinal mistake of photographing the humiliation they inflicted on Iraqi detainees and letting the pictures reach the public.

In a comment to the Washington Post, Thomas J. Romig, who was the Army's judge advocate general in 2003, said Yoo's military interrogation memo appears to argue that there are no rules in a time of war, a concept that Romig said he found "downright offensive." [Washington Post, April 2, 2008]

But the greater legacy from Yoo -- who is now a professor of law at the University of California in Berkeley -- and his imperial legal theories is that they have been embraced by many Bush supporters and four right-wing Supreme Court justices.

Though Bush may not get another chance to further shape the Supreme Court with the appointment of another Roberts or Alito, his successor likely will. For some Americans angered by Bush's assault on the Constitution, John McCain's past support for Bush's judicial appointments may represent one of the strongest reasons to vote against him.

The future of the American Republic may be at stake.

Besides undergirding the abuses at Guatanamo and Abu Ghraib, the Bush-Yoo theories have laid the groundwork for ending a noble experiment in human liberty that the Founders began more than 230 years ago -- with their defiant declaration that no leader is above the law and that everyone possesses "unalienable rights" under the law.

If you admit the need of law -- then law needs administeration.  The president administers the laws.

Law may be discovered and evolve as a cultural practice or it may be made.  The US government has both  -- common law is stipulated in our constitution but laws are also made by representatives (Congress).

Coercion and force exist.  Will they be under law.  If they are under law -- they must be administered according to law.  That requires an executive  -- a president to preside over the administration of the law that controls the use of force.

Hope that answers your questions.

I am supporting Bob Bowman.  There is still time for a third party candidate to enter the race and win.  All it will take is people resolving not to vote for evil under any circumstance.

Hi Helen,

Read it again.

His solutions are three:

1.  More intensive outcomes based education.

2. More progressive tax system.   (But the portfolios of the  billionaires are completely offshore.)  Good as far as it goes, but no notion of an overhall of the entire credit system and re-regulation of banking, foreign trade and international capital flows.)

3.  Environmental constrainst on domestic production  (green technologies)

He misses 20  reforms that we need to really get our country back.

In short  Robert Reich is still with Bill and HR Clinton.

Bitter? You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.

Obama, Bitterness, Meet the Press, and the Old Politics

By Robert Reich

16/04/08 "Common Dreams" -- -I was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, 61 years ago. My father sold $1.98 cotton blouses to blue-collar women and women whose husbands worked in factories. Years later, I was secretary of labor of the United States, and I tried the best I could - which wasn’t nearly good enough - to help reverse one of the most troublesome trends America has faced: The stagnation of middle-class wages and the expansion of povety. Male hourly wages began to drop in the early 1970s, adjusted for inflation. The average man in his 30s is earning less than his father did thirty years ago. Yet America is far richer. Where did the money go? To the top.

Are Americans who have been left behind frustrated? Of course. And their frustrations, their anger and, yes, sometimes their bitterness, have been used since then — by demagogues, by nationalists and xenophobes, by radical conservatives, by political nuts and fanatical fruitcakes - to blame immigrants and foreign traders, to blame blacks and the poor, to blame “liberal elites,” to blame anyone and anything.

Rather than counter all this, the American media have wallowed in it. Some, like Fox News and talk radio, have given the haters and blamers their very own megaphones. The rest have merely “reported on” it. Instead of focusing on how to get Americans good jobs again; instead of admitting too many of our schools are failing and our kids are falling behind their contemporaries in Europe, Japan, and even China; instead of showing why we need a more progressive tax system to finance better schools and access to health care, and green technologies that might create new manufacturing jobs, our national discussion has been mired in the old politics.

Listen to this morning’s “Meet the Press” if you want an example. Tim Russert, one of the smartest guys on television, interviewed four political consultants - Carville and Matalin, Bob Schrum, and Michael Murphy. Political consultants are paid huge sums to help politicians spin words and avoid real talk. They’re part of the problem. And what do Russert and these four consultants talk about? The potential damage to Barack Obama from saying that lots of people in Pennsylvania are bitter that the economy has left them behind; about HRC’s spin on Obama’s words (he’s an “elitist,” she said); and John McCain’s similarly puerile attack.

Does Russert really believe he’s doing the nation a service for this parade of spin doctors talking about potential spins and the spin-offs from the words Obama used to state what everyone knows is true? Or is Russert merely in the business of selling TV airtime for a network that doesn’t give a hoot about its supposed commitment to the public interest but wants to up its ratings by pandering to the nation’s ongoing desire for gladiator entertainment instead of real talk about real problems.

We’re heading into the worst economic crisis in a half century or more. Many of the Americans who have been getting nowhere for decades are in even deeper trouble. Large numbers of people in Pennsylvania and across the nation are losing their homes and losing their jobs, and the situation is likely to grow worse. Consumers are at the end of their ropes, fuel and food costs are skyrocketing, they can’t go deeper into debt, they can’t pay their bills. They aren’t buying, which means every business from the auto industry to housing to even giant GE is hurting. Which means they’ll begin laying off more people, and as they do, we will experience an even more dangerous downward spiral.

Bitter? You ain’t seen nothing yet. And as much as people like Russert, Carville, Matalin, Schrum, and Murphy want to divert our attention from what’s really happening; as much as HRC and McCain seek to make political hay out of choices of words that can be spun cynically by the mindless spinners of the old politics; as much as demagogues on the right and left continue to try to channel the cumulative frustrations of Americans into a politics of resentment - all these attempts will, I hope, prove futile. Eighty percent of Americans know the nation is on the wrong track. The old politics, and the old media that feeds it, are irrelevant now.

Why I am a bitter man

Stephen Pizzo

"Bitter: angry, hurt, resentful, because of one's bad experiences or sense of unjust treatment."      Webster's Dictionary.

I am a bitter man. I admit it. I'm neither proud nor happy about it. But it's not my fault, either.

Eight years ago I was annoyed, but I wasn't bitter. Being annoyed with government is the natural state of the governed. It's the catalyst that keeps politicians paranoid about what we're up to out here while they, hopefully, try to do enough things right to get our vote next time around, even if resentfully.

But bitter is a different kind of catalyst. It's the emotion that freed these former colonies from Britain. It's the emotion that motivated American blacks to come together in the 1960s and demand an end to segregation, once and for all. At the turn of the century in Russia bitterness caused the Russian people to put an end to careless, self-indulgent, wasteful monarchy. Before that, in France, bitterness among the peasantry caused a whole lot folks to loose their heads -- literally.

In short, bitterness is a motivator -- maybe the motivator when it comes to the forcing of social tipping points.

So, while I'm bitter that this administration has turned me bitter, I am crystal clear on the reasons why I'm bitter:

I am bitter because this administration led my country into a completely unnecessary war. A war they justified on flawed, and what history will surely eventually prove, entirely fabricated intelligence.

I am bitter that this administration has soiled, not just America's image, but it's very soul by resorting to the kind of brutal treatment of prisoners for which we once tried, convicted and executed enemy commanders.

I am bitter that after the hard lessons of Vietnam, a war that took the lives of over 50,000 of my generation, that this administration repeated those mistakes, costing the lives of over 4000 of this generation's best and brightest -- so far -- and counting.

I am bitter that the only reason our kids must continue dying in Iraq is soley to buy time for this administration to get out office next January leaving the mess and clean up to the next administration.

I am bitter that this administration mismanaged the only justifiable military action they took -- the invasion of Afghanistan -- allowing the men actually behind 9/11 to escape capture and punishment, and to continue to spread their twisted ideology and murderous activities.

I am bitter that this administration gutted our national treasury, pissing away a $5.2 billion surplus by lavishing tax breaks on the already wealthy and then, once out of money, putting an additional $4.5 trillion on the national credit card.

I am bitter that this administration has so bankrupted my nation that we can't provide health coverage for nearly 50 million of us but instead continue to borrow $12 billion a month to fund operations in Iraq.

I am bitter that our students continue to be "left behind," to test below average -- often far below average -- when compared with students in other developed nations, and that we have neither the money or will to do a damn thing about it.

I am bitter that, thanks to this administration's cynical manipulation and suppression of scientific evidence, that my children and grand children will spend their entire lives battling the potentially deadly effects of global warming.

I am bitter that this administration has engage in the same kind of religious fundamentalism for which they criticize in Islamic nations. That they can't or refuse to recognize the inherent contradiction in their support for such things as prayer in public schools and other government-funded "faith-based" programs and Islamic government funded madrasas they condemn in countries like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

I am bitter that this administration gutted the nation's regulatory apparatus for the sole purpose of boosting industry profit margins, resulting first in the mortgage meltdown and more recently safety maintenance chaos in the airline industry.

I am bitter that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney's unnecessary and illegal war in Iraq has gotten 4000 other people's children killed while their daughters have been allowed uninterrupted lives of privilege and safety.

I am bitter that this administration has treated the US Constitution and Bill of Rights as though they were suggestions rather than the sacred law of the land.

I am bitter that this administration placed one of the nation's most powerful agencies of government, the Department of Justice, in the hands of a man. Alberto Gonzales, who's only claim to fame is that he was unqualified, unprincipled and underhanded.

I am bitter that congress has shown neither the patriotism or guts to step up to their constitutional duty to impeach members of this administration for breaking existing laws, violating our civil rights and showing utter contempt for the separations of powers mandated in the US Constitution.

But most of all I am bitter that it appears almost certain that the criminal acts committed by members of this administration will go unpunished. That they will indeed get away with it all. And that that will set a
precedent for the next George W. Bush-type who finagles his/her way into the Oval Office.

Those are the reasons I'm bitter. And it you're one of those folks Hillary and McCain keep assuring me are "not bitter," I have only one question for you:

Why aren't you?

(end)

Yes, which families own all the land on which the rent is going sky high due to food prices raised by restricted supply?  Who owns global agribusiness?  Remember, "American Farmers are all foreclosed and their farms are owned by foreigners now -- but which foreigners?

Not to worry, that bubble too shall burst. Monsanto has been having trouble selling their genetically altered wheat seed. It has been banned in most of Europe. It is genetically altered to resist the effects of Monsanto's,  ROUND-UP, weed killer. But the U.S. consumers are being poisoned with their genetically altered wheat.

A shale formation stretching North Dakota and Montana may have an estimated 3.0 to 4.3 billion barrels of recoverable oil, according to a U.S. Geological Survey assessment.
