Description

Dedicated to Old Camp Grant, AZ Located N of Tuscon near Gila River off Arivpaya Creek Also known as: Camp Grant, Fort Grant, Fort Breckenridge, Camp Arivapya and other names. May have been known as Camp Stanford and Camp San Pedro.

Activated 1859/60 and manned by 8th US inf and Dragoons who burned the installation to prevent rebs from capturing the site in the civil war. Later restored. Now near a youth prison on a federal reservation. Not the same site as another Camp Grant in AZ.

Records for az in 1855-62 are in nm or az archives? Robert Baca Today at 7:19pm That's a good question. Arizona was part of New Mexico until 1862.

Just thought I would check back in to see if anyone had straightened up the confusion between where CAMP (Aravaipa and San Pedro) and FORT (near Safford)GRANT
