Well I just got back from metal detecting with my
brother (blazinpistol) and his daughter. We found a lot
of trash which we took with us. We found an iron
latch of some kind, and an iron rod about 2 feet long
that looks like it was fastened by square nails to
something.(?) Anyway, we had a great time just driving around
looking for old home sites to hunt.

I have managed to get a little metal detecting time in but no major finds from
Ardmore. Seems like it rains everytime I get a chance to go treasure hunting.

Has anyone been doing any detecting or hunting? I found another plow blade and
another cultivator blade. Is there any monetary value for such stuff?

I finally got my Explorer XS back in tip top
shape.First day out I found a 1914 D barber dime in fine
condition.I also found a 1968 Kennedy half in excellent
shape.I have found few silver Roosevelts and several
wheat pennies also.I'll try and post some pics in the
next day or so.I also added a couple of tax tokens and
a China or Japan coin.I cant tell you what it is
but it has a "1" and some very unfamiliar characters,
is made out of aluminum and about the size of a
dime.I hope to find some fresh ground to hunt soon,I
feel like my old spots are turning out less and less
all the time.Good luck, happy hunting and God
bless.
Tex D.

Hi...I know about where you are, I used to drive
to Madill and down 377 to Whitesboro to visit my
brother. Since I live in Ardmore now, I go down the
Interstate. Have not had time to do much metal detecting
lately but hope to hit the dirt again soon. Good club
you have here, keep up the good work.

Hey diggerjoe, we are not that far apart! I'm
over here off of hwy 377 almost to Texas. I'm still
breakin' in a Radio Shack special but having lots of fun.
Haven't found anything great yet but some farm iron. 2
plow blades and 2 cultivator blades and a little scrap
iron. I think next time I go out I will search the
local beaches.

No major finds to report from Ardmore. I did find over 270 coins, mostly
pennies, in a local park earlier this year. I use a Garrett GTA1000 and my wife
uses a GTA350.

Does anyone want to schedule a chat on a regular
basis. Say once a week or once a month to discuss finds
and places to hunt or anything else club related? Let
me know what days are most convenient as well as
what hours and I will try to schedule it.

I am going to treasure hunt tomorow if the rain
holds off. I've got 3 places lined out. A lumber yard
that was recently torn down (but was built in the
early 1900's, and old delapidated train station, or an
old home site. I can't make up my mind which place I
will go. I'll probably go to the old lumber yard
because they will be building new buildings just any
time, so my time is running out at this site. Hope you
all are having lots of luck!

I made a picture album for us to post those items
you just can't identify. Maybe someone else in the
club knows what that item is. So be sure to upload
pictures of these items in the "What is this?" album. Feel
free to start your own albums.

My first detector was a GTAx550.It does as they
say.I found my first silver coins with it.I was afraid
that I was missing targets so I slowly started
upgrading.I bought and traded several machines befor I
decided that the Explorer was what I wanted.I had a CZ-7
with all 3 coils.I had an older Garrett ADS Master
Hunter,a Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter 2,An M-95
Fisher(industrial)
A Minelab Soveriegn XS-2 Pro with all the cool
Sunray accessories and have tried the XLT and a 1235-x
for a couple of days.I liked all of them except the
Bounty Hunter.I sent the ADS in for repair and was told
that it was the best detector they made next to the
GTI series. That made me feel real good since I'd just
spent 325.00 for a GTAx-550 and had given 35.00 for the
ADS. A tech at Garrett told me that.It cost me 65.00
to fix the ADS and I sold it on E-bay to buy another
detector. The XS-2 Pro was my favorite next to the Explorer. It
is a bit heavy but it is an excellent detector. It
does better in heavy mineralized soil and iron
infested ground than any other unit that I've used.Right
now the cost has come down on them because of the
Explorer. These are all just my oppinion and I believe that
Fisher,Whites, and Garrett all make great detectors. My advice is to
save a little while and buy an upper end unit like a
GTI-1500 or better or a White's Quantum XT
or maybe a
Sov. or CZ series for Fisher. If you buy a lesser model
you'll always wonder if you are leaving things in the
ground(or at least I did).Good luck and Happy Hunting.

This is a good feature for todays detectors. Most
manufacturers have auto ground balance. What brands are you
looking at besides White's.Manual ground balance is not
really a hassel either though.I've had both and they
both work equally well.If you have manual ground
balance it's just one more adjustment you have to make
befor you get started.Auto ground balance will adjust
itself if ground conditions change.
Hope this
helps.
Happy Hunting and Good Luck,
Tex D

could someone help me with the auto ground
ballance feature found on most detectors today.
is this
a good feature or would a manual ground balance be
the best? also i noticed that the whites brand has a
opt, ground balance adjust trimer under the made in
usa decal. would this be the best way to go for a mid
price detector or would the auto ground be alright for
northeast texas? Thanks in advance for the help.

Feel free to post the pic. I'd like to hear how
you do at the old lumber yard.Anything that old is
bound to turn up a couple of good finds.I had to send
my Explorer off to repair because the headphone jack
quit working. The I.D. seemed to be a little off
also. The fine people at Minelab will take care of it
though.I'm going to buy a White's
Spectrum XLT Saturday
for a possible backup unit if I like it.I've heard
its a little complicated than the Explorer.Good luck
and Happy Hunting.
Tex D.

Man I'm impressed. Do you mind if I post the pic
on the front page of this site for a while? Hope I
will find some cool stuff like that. Here where I live
there is an old lumber yard dating to the early 1900's.
Next week they are demolishing the buildings. I got
permission from the owner to use the detector after it is
cleared out. There will be a lot of trash to sift thru
but I bet I will come back with at least one relic.
If I do, I will let you know.

Tex, I really enjoyed viewing the pics you
uploaded. Really appreciate you sharing your finds with us.
I hope I can find some good finds like that. Where
did you find the bullet? Texas? Looks like a civil
war era bullet.

I was hoping I could join a club soon.I've been
at this for about 1.5yrs and needless to say I'm
hooked. I use a Minelab Explorer XS and have been very
pleased with its performance. I found a 1913 Brittish
Penny yesterday that was in excellent shape. I also
found several wheat pennies and an old age assistance
token. I hunted for a few hours today and found a 1940
Jefferson nickle, about 7 wheat pennies and another old age
assistance token. Last Sunday at the same place I found a
1950 Franklin half and a 51 quarter. I also found
several wheat pennies also. I came behind another THer
that didn't fill his holes. The half was found within
inches of one of his or her holes.this is an old H.S. on
the old side of town.It has been a very good last
couple of hunts.
Well thank you for letting me join
your club.I've owned a few different makes of
detectors so if I can be of any assistance please feel free
to message me.
Tex (Explorerman)

Sometimes you don't need the detector to find treasure. I found this 1964 D
silver dime in a cash register at work.

This weekend my brother and myself found quite a few relics at an old homesite.
We found a cast iron stove door, a piece of hand forged chain and iron ring,
tractor gear and a bunch of odds and ends.

I got my first metal detector last week and this
weekend I made my first interesting find. In a feild I
now own (5 acres) I found a plow blade. It was about
8-9" beneath the surface. At first I didn't know what
it was but an older gentleman I know quickly
identified it for me. He said they used to use this behind a
team of mules.
