More than 300 people showed up for the performance of a "Gift of Peace" on Sunday night. By Oklahoma standards, it was an extraordinary turnout.
The sanctuary at Mayflower Church was nearly full as the acting troupe brought their play to Oklahoma City. The audience seemed to appreciate the professional qualitiy of the production. As the curtain fell (figuratively speaking), a free will offering was taken. Over $4,000 was collected to support the actors and the U.S. Department of Peace campaign. Tonight, the "Gift of Peace" will be presented at the national Department of Peace conference in Washington, DC.
In her remarks to close the evening, Lydia Gill-Polley encouraged everyone in attendance to find a way to become active in the Department of Peace campaign. She encouraged the gathering of signatures on petitions. She suggested that phone calls and letters to Congress would be a good idea right about now. Most of all, she said, we just need to keep spreading the word about the Department of Peace campaign until it fans across the nation like one of our Oklahoma wildfires.
Today, a team of 5 Oklahomans are traveling to Washington to deliver the petitions that have been collected so far. (Read more in Lydia's report, below). In future weeks, we hope to visit with our Members of Congress in their district offices to press our case for the creation of a Department of Peace.
If you haven't yet made a commitment to help the Department of Peace campaign, please visit our campaign website -- www.ok-global.com/dop -- where you can learn about our campaign activities in Oklahoma.
I have a feeling that this campaign will indeed spread like a wildfire as the people of our Great State decide to support this constructive step toward a more peaceful world.
More later!

Hi, Gift of Peace planners and Oklahoma Campaigner for the Department of Peace and Nonviolence.
I'm almost ready to pack for our trip to the Department of Peace DC Conference. It's late, but I must give you this brief report of the phenomenal performance and our campaign finances.
350 people were present! Thanks to all of your amazing publicity!
Close to 300 people signed the Petitions supporting the Department of Peace and Nonviolence legislation and many took petitions with them to circulate. Our 5-person delegation (Nathaniel Batchelder, Glenn Norris, Peter Pham, Bob Lemon and me) has packets that include 790 signatures on the petitions with a cover letter and synopsis of the bill to deliver to our 2 Senators and 5 Congressional Representatives. Thanks to all of your continuing efforts! A packet is also being delivered tomorrow morning to Congresswoman Fallin's Oklahoma City Office by 10 or so folks, led by Bill Bryant, John Walters & Darla Shelden.
Offering brought in $4,059.00! Wow! Our Oklahoma Campaign kept 10% of it and gave the balance to the wonderful traveling troupe.
