If you're able, please plan to attend a performance of the "Gift of Peace," a new play designed to promote the U.S. Department of Peace. The curtain will rise in Oklahoma City at 7pm on Sunday, January 28th.
By then, maybe, some of this freezy skid stuff will have melted from our roads, and you'll be ready to get out of the house and enjoy a unique theatrical production.
Mayflower Congregational Church will host the performance. The church is located at 3901 NW 63rd Street.
Here's a blurb about the play, followed by a short report on last week's meeting on the Department of Peace Campaign:

What would life be like if when you walked down the street the people you meet would greet you with a warm smile and a welcome of acceptance, despite your appearances and your racial or ethic background? What would it be like if the leaders or our country were to greet other leaders of our country and the leaders of the world with that same warmth and acceptance, letting go of political, economic, and religious differences and pursuing The Gift of Peace, first and foremost? What if our country’s leaders and diplomats were all trained in the ways and the disciplines of peace, instead of the ways and disciples of fear, control and war? What if our country took just 1% or 2% of what we spend on war and defense and spent it on understanding and developing programs that would enhance the chances for peace?
A traveling band of well known and accomplished actors will donate their time and passion in this presentation. They are striving to raise awareness, funds and media attention for legislation to initiate a Department of Peace by way of a bus tour across the country. The play opens in Los Angeles, then performs: Phoenix, Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta and Lynchburg with final performance on February 2nd at the US Department Of Peace Conference in Washington, DC.
The play is directed by Valentino Ferrira.

A Report on the January Meeting
of the Oklahoma Campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace
Twenty-four people were in attendance at our January 11th meeting, including at least 9 "newcomers." Lydia Polley led an animated discussion during which we reviewed the goals of the DOP Campaign and mapped out a strategy for promoting our message.
An immediate objective is to publicize the 'Gift of Peace' performance on Sunday, January 28th. We're fortunate that Oklahoma will be one of only 9 venues in which this play will be performed. Several energetic and courageous folks volunteered to help out with the behind-the-scenes work.
A second objective is to identify friendly groups and organizations that may be open to receiving our message. We want to engage local community groups, churches, civic organizations, etc., and invite them to become endorsers of the Department of Peace campaign. We've got brochures, video, and a powerpoint show, too. We're ready to share our message. A work team was organized to tackle this objective.
A third objective is to prepare a series of Resolutions that can be taken to important membership organizations, political conventions, conferences, and governmental groups. We make progress as more groups resolve to support the Department of Peace. A second work team was formed to work on this topic.
As a grassroots movement, the Oklahoma Campaign is still in the process of getting organized. We're struggling to line up our resources and put them to effective use. If you're interested in helping, please join our team of volunteers when we re-convene:
Tuesday, February 20th -- 7pm
Mayflower Congregational Church
3901 NW 63rd
Oklahoma City, OK 73116
