Subject: Volunteers Needed!
From: scottnjack@...

Good morning,

Volunteer opportunities abound at Cooke!

#1. We urgently need volunteers this week for the Orignial Artwork project; Wed (11/4, 9-11), Thurs (11/5, 9-11 and 1-3) and Friday (11/6, 9-12). The following is what the project involves:

  1. Erase all pencil lines on art
  2. Indicate the top of artwork by marking a “T” on the back
  3. Glue edges that are not all the way down
  4. Make sure each piece of art is 8 ½ x 11 inches.  Art may need an additional background piece of paper or trimming to comply.  ALL art has to be these dimensions to be processed.
  5. Write each child’s name on the front of the artwork at least ½” away from the edge of their paper WITH A BLACK SHARPIE
  6. Write the artist’s name, class/grade and school on the back of the artwork in pencil at least ½” away from the edge
Any questions?  Call Nicole Newsome 714-9578
This artwork has to be completed by this Friday and mailed to the company in order for the artwork to be returned in time for Christmas. If you can help with this urgent request, please reply as soon as possible!

#2. Movie Night is fast approaching. We will showing UP on Thursday, November, 19 at 6:00pm. We will need volunteers to arrive at the school around 5:30. During the movie we will be selling concessions to raise money for the PTA. We would like to have at least eight volunteers to help with selling pizza, popcorn, drinks and baked goods. We will always be collecting canned goods for the food bank. I will need one person to help collect food and pass out raffle tickets to the chidlren. And as always, we will need help with clean-up. Also, if you are interested in making or purchasing baked goods to sell that would be fantastic! The baked goods can be sent in the day of the movie, pre-bagged and ready to be sold. If you can help with this event in anyway, please contact me via email.

#3. The Flu Vaccine~we know it's coming, we just don't know when! It may be next week. Ms. Sessoms would like to have at least ten volunteers that day to assist the children once they have recieved thier shot. Ms. Sessoms should recieve
notification three days before the health department is scheudled to arrive. So, at this time, please keep this in mind and once I know the date and time I will send out an SOS.

#4. The Book Fair is coming! The librarian would love to have volunteers for this event! The following is what is needed: 2-3 volunteers per day on the following dates: preview days are November 30th and December 1st-9am-2:30pm.Sale days are December 2nd -December 4th   - 9am -1:30 pm.The preview days are especially hectic, so the more help the better on those days. Also we are always looking for volunteers to help with inventory scanning books. This is an ongoing project, so anytime, any days are great. Please email me if you can help with this event.

And finally,

Save the Date: December 5 is the Surf Sample Sale and Hot Chocolate with Santa. More details to follow at a later date.

I just want to Thank each and everyone of you for all of your time and hard work! I look forward to seeing you all at these great events! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!

Sincerely,

Jackie Warren

Hello,
As many of you are aware, WT Cooke Elementary is hosting it's inaugural Jack O'Lantern Jog next Friday, October 30th on the Boardwalk. The run starts promptly at 5:30. I am hoping to have twenty-one volunteers from the Navy. However, at this point I haven't heard back from my contact and I am starting to get a little concerned/nervous that we won't have enough volunteers to help with the race. We will need five volunteers for the start area, four to hold signs to corral the runners and one to help Ginny Cohen with check in. And, sixteen volunteers at the finish line and food tents. All volunteers will need to be on the Boardwalk by 5:00PM. We are calculating that the race should be over by 6:15 at the latest. If you are available to help please reply to this email ASAP. I am hoping to hear back from the Navy with good news! Once I do, I will notify everyone that is volunteering and you can back out if you want. Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Jackie Warren

Hello Jaycees,

Chapter Elections are coming up for the 2010 Oceanfront Board of
Directors. To seek a board position, you must be nominated by another
member at the October (next Wednesday) or November meetings. The
elections themselves will be held during the November meeting and
overseen by the current Chairman of the Board. The positions are

President
Management Development VP
Membership Development VP
Individual Development VP
Community Development VP
Secretary
Treasurer
State Director

I encourage all members who may be interested to ask questions about
the various board positions. I have summarized the duties from the by-
laws below. Even if you are not interested in holding a VP position on
the board, I encourage you to ask about Directorships for the areas of
development under each of the VPs. There are many ways to become more
involved with the organization without taking on the full duties of a
Vice President.

The President, as chief officer of the organization, shall supervise
the chapter's affairs and activities. The President shall be the
organization's primary representative of the Board of Directors of the
Virginia Jaycee organization.

The Management Development Vice President, who shall preside over
membership and Board of Directors meetings in the absence of the
President, shall also work with the President and other Board Members
on chapter affairs. The Management Vice President is the primary
officer responsible for the chapter's fundraising efforts.

The Membership Development Vice President shall work with the
President on coordinating membership programs and activities of the
Oceanfront Jaycees. The Membership Development Vice President shall
submit required paperwork to the Virginia Jaycee organization in a
timely manner and work in conjunction with the Treasurer to issue
notices of dues payable and be responsible for the collection thereof.

The Individual Development Vice President shall work with the
President on affairs of the organization such as the programs/projects
for the personal development of the Individual Member.

The Community Development Vice President shall work with the President
on affairs of the organization such as the programs/projects for
community involvement.

The Secretary shall give notice of all regular and special meetings
and shall keep a permanent record of the minutes of such meetings.
The secretary shall be custodian of all official records of the
organization.

The Treasurer shall keep the books of the organization, disburse
funds as required, and shall report monthly on the financial condition
of the organization. The Treasurer shall work in conjunction with the
Membership Development Vice President to issue notices of dues payable
and be responsible for the collection thereof.

The State Director shall be the chapter's liaison to the Virginia
Jaycees Board of Directors and other Jaycee chapters. The
State Director shall be the chapter’s secondary representative on the
Virginia Jaycees Board of Directors. The State Director shall be
responsible for promoting to the chapter all state meetings, events,
and programs of the state organization.

Hello Atlantic Region Jaycees!  This is your special invitation to come out to Croc’s next Saturday night and listen to the Peninsula Jaycee band Bent Transmission (battle of the bands winner!) as we raise money for a cause near and dear to our hearts – Camp Virginia Jaycee.  I’m sure you all have heard by now that the Camp experienced some very difficult times this past summer, so between that and the fact that donations were down due to the economic downturn, is all the more reason why we need you to bring your friends and some $$$ and make a donation to the Camp while hearing a great band!

We will also have some great raffle prizes available for you to win, so bring a few extra bucks and buy some raffle tickets ($1 each or 6 for $5).  You could be the lucky winner of a $100 gift card to Catch 31!!

Please call (348-2732) or e-mail (kcistola@...)me if you have any questions, need more info or have a raffle prize you’d like to donate!
