      El día de hoy fue detenido nuestro compañero David Venegas Cruz, "el Alebrije", concejal de la APPO (Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca) y miembro de VOCAL (Voces Oaxaqueñas Construyendo Autonomía y Libertad).

      Alrededor de la 1:10 de la tarde caminaba por el parque Juárez "El Llano" hacia la asamblea del Consejo Estatal de la APPO,  cuando fue detenido por elementos de la Policía Ministerial del Estado de Oaxaca. Hasta estos momentos no ha sido presentado en ningún lugar. Las autoridades de la Policía Ministerial niegan haber detenido a nuestro compañero pese al testimonio de testigos que presenciaron los hechos. No sabemos nada sobre su estado físico y emocional.

[We demand] the immediate presentation, alive, of David Venegas Reyes, council member of the APPO, member of VOCAL and adherent of the Other Campaign
 
      Today our companion David Venegas Cruz, “el Alebrije”, council member of the APPO (Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca) and member of VOCAL (Oaxacan Voices Constructing Autonomy and Liberty), was arrested.
 
      He was arrested by agents of the Oaxaca State Ministerial Police at about 1:10 in the afternoon as he was walking in the Juárez park “Llano” towards the assembly of the State Council of APPO. Up to this moment he hasn’t been presented anywhere. The Ministerial Police authorities deny having arrested our companion in spite of the testimony of witnesses who were present at the event. We know nothing about his physical and emotional state.
 
      Dada la práctica anticonstitucional de las instituciones policiacas, tememos por la vida y la integridad de nuestro compañero David Venegas Cruz.

      Denunciamos desde estos momentos la falta de elementos judiciales para detener a nuestro compañero y aclaramos que su única labor ha sido haber participado en el movimiento social legítimo del pueblo oaxaqueño, por lo cual no debe ser acusado de ningún delito que quiera ensuciar su imagen
de luchador social.

      Ante estos hechos VOCAL  convocará a movilizaciones por la inmediata liberación de nuestro compañero, pues estos hechos son una muestra más de la política de represión contra el movimiento social de todo el pueblo de  Oaxaca.
 
      Given the anticonstitutional practices of the police institutions, we are fearful for the life and the integrity of our companion David Venegas Cruz.
 
      We denounce from this moment the failure of judicial agents for arresting our companion and we clarify that his only work has been participating in the legitimate social movement of the Oaxacan people, for which he doesn’t need to be accused of any crime that seeks to dirty his image as a social struggler.
 
      In the face of these acts VOCAL will convoke mobilizations for the immediate liberation of our companion. These acts then are another demonstration of the political repression against the social movement of all the people of Oaxaca.

      Responsabilizamos de cualquier agresión en contra de nuestro compañero al señor Daniel Camarena Flores, director de la Policía Ministerial del Estado de Oaxaca, que en el año 1977 mientras era director de Policía Preventiva reprimió salvajemente al movimiento estudiantil; al señor Evencio Martinez Ramirez, hoy Procurador de Justicia del Estado y que en 1998 fungía como presidente de la Comision Estatal de Derechos Humanos, que reprimió al movimiento social de Oaxaca desde ese puesto; al señor Sergio Segrestes Ríos, Secretario de Seguridad Pública, que también desde su anterior puesto de presidente de la Comisión Estatal de Derechos Humanos reprimió al pueblo oaxaqueño; y por último al señor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz gobernador ilegítimo del Estado de Oaxaca.

      A los compañeros de La Otra Campaña, del magisterio democrático oaxaqueño y al pueblo de Oaxaca, les pedimos su solidaridad para demandar la libertad inmediata de nuestro compañero. Pedimos también la solidaridad internacional para romper el silencio ante tanta represión para el pueblo de Oaxaca y lograr la libertad de nuestro compañero.
 
      For any aggression against our companion we hold Mr. Daniel Camarena Flores responsible. Director of the Oaxaca State Ministerial Police, in 1977 while he was director of the Preventive Police he savagely repressed the student movement. Also Mr. Evencio Martinez Ramirez, today the State Attorney General who in 1998 served as president of the State Human Rights Commission, who, from that position, repressed the social movement in Oaxaca. Also Mr. Sergio Segrestes Ríos, Secretary of Public Security, who also fro his previous post as president of the State Human Rights Commission repressed the Oaxaca people. And finally Mr. Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, the illegitimate governor of Oaxaca State.
 
      To the companions of The Other Campaign, the democratic Oaxacan teaching profession and the people of Oaxaca, we ask your solidarity in asking for the immediate liberty of our companion. We also ask for international solidarity to break the silence in the face of so much repression, for the people of Oaxaca and to gain the freedom of our companion.
