I am attaching files which I hope come through. If they don't, I'll try copy and paste they may be too big. ---let me know.
One is the announcement of the establishment of the new Triqui autonomous community, which is actually not that new as news but they just elected and installed their representatives. I have tried to give you some background explanation.
The other file is a translation of the account of the formation of the new asamblea popular of the Costa, which also contains a few words about the participation of teachers.
The teacher situation has been a topic in the news for the last couple of weeks, which I didn't get around to translating. Fighting (literally) has been going on at many schools around the state. There's no doubt that the gov or the PRI or Gordillo managed to corrupt the Section 22 leadership (Rueda Pacheco) who did not call for a state assembly of the teachers. Now the teachers at the base have regrouped. With or without their "leadership" they are having their assembly.
Meanwhile, teachers on the coast are participating in the new Asamblea del Pueblos de la Costa (I'm not actually sure what it's formal name is, so don't quote me!)
It's pretty positive news all around for the popular assembly movement, but the state is heavily militarized and policed, and we should be braced for a lot of nasty repression.
I hope those of you globally who can spread the word continue to do so, because one thing is evident: Calderon will support Ruiz in whatever Ruiz chooses to do to win the August election, but public opinion will not. Every death he inflicts should cost him a thousand punishment votes.
