Its hot, you hand's are sweating, so reach into your:

1. Bivouac Chalk Bag, full of chalk. Colgate toothbrush ready if the
tiny holds is dirty.

Those bare feet won't do, change into:

1. Boreal Vectors Size UK 8
2. Boreal Zephyrs Size UK 7.

It's getting too scary to continue unroped, try 4 Carabiners with
the
following to attach yourself to the mountain:

Smallest:

HB RP's. #1, #2, #3
Chouinard Micro Nuts. #1, #2, #3
DMM Peenuts. #00, #0, #1/2, #3/4 (Total of 10)

Small:
Wild Country Rocks. #1, #1, #1 (useful size)
Wild Country Super Rock. #1
DMM Wallnuts. #1, #1
Chouinard Classic Nut. #1 (Total of 7)

Medium:
Wild Country Super Rocks. #2, #3, #4, #4
Wild Country Rocks. #2, #3, #4, #5
DMM Wallnuts #2, #3, #4, #5 (Total of 12)

Largest:
Wild Country Rocks. #5, #6, #7, #8, #9
DMM Wallnuts. #5, #6, #7 (Total of 8)

Once the cracks get bigger use a 5th carabiner with the following:

Faders Hex's #5, #6, #7, #8. All on 9mm Dynemma.

On a 6th carabiner you will find dynamic protection in the form of:

1.Metolius #2 Single Axle Cam on Faders Freegate Bent

2.Black Diamond #0.5 Camalot Double Axle Cam on Faders Plus Bentgate

3.Black Diamond #0.75 Camalot Double Axle Cam on Stubai Easyclip

4.Black Diamond #0.75 Camalot Double Axle Cam on Stubai Easyclip

5.Black Diamond #1 Camalot Double Axle Cam on Black Diamond Bentgate.

To connect the rope to the above:

10 Quickdraws, all 150mm Arctyrx. All have Faders Plus Straightgate
for the gear and Faders or Black Diamond Hot-wire Bentgate so you can
make that desperate final clip.

I have 2 50meter ropes which I would be happy to take a Factor 1 fall
on, (sore neck aside) since they have had only the most minuscule
lead falls taken on them, its up to you, I don't factor them in
the
price.

1. Beal 8.5mm Dry Treated ½ Rope
2. Edelweiss 11mm Dry Treated. Very nice rope, flexible and nice feel.

If the snow slope wont take any of the above you could try one of 5
Snow Stakes all mounted with 9mm Dynemma rope protected with sling
where it passes through the alloy extrusion and a stainless steel
bash plate at the top to bash with your hammer. These are drilled
appropriately to achieve grip and for weight savings and are in 500mm
lengths (2), 400mm length's (2) and lastly a shorter one (300mm)
which I would call an Ice Stake.

If you still can't get any gear in,(you must be getting cold by
now
too), try one of the following:

1. 5 Ice Screws made up of 2 Salewa's, a Stubai, a Snarg and one
Titanium Large Bore Type Salewa.

Now a rope tied round the waist wont do so:

1. Petzl Gouru Harness Size XS-L. I consider this one to be the
nicest colour I ever saw! This has a Petzl Reverso attached via a
Black Diamond or Stubai Harness Carabiner (large screw-gate).

Snow's to steep to pitch your tent, dig a platform or if you have
no
tent dig a cave, you'll need:

1. Life Link Snow Shovel. If you have ever tried one of these
you'll
know the are good at taking chunks of snow or skimming, shaving and
you categorically will not break it.

This stuff hasn't been used hard, only by a weekend warrior, some
of
it's unmarked, (i.e. the RP's, Reverso). Even the Ice-Screws
are on
crabs.

It's a pretty complete rack and I won't consider splitting it
up in
any way. It would definitely cost over $4000, that's if they gave
you
a decent discount.

NZD $1750
----------------------------

I also have a Bivy Bag. Macpac Bush Cocoon 3 Layer Reflex. The
standard one the used to make, its got no marks or anything, just the
slightest signs of use. It has an insect screen, you can peg it out
and it doesn't have a pole but it is easy to use some prussik
cord
etc. etc. and a ski or pole to get it off your face.

NZD $175
------------

Lastly a Mountain Hardware Trango II Tent.

This makes most tents look quite under done. These are mostly found
on the South Col but I have used mine twice in the Rangatakie
flyfishing where the bright orange colour attracts a lot of attention
meaning you have to pack up the camp to go fishing. Good colour to
find at night or in bad conditions. Bad colour to hide from Murapara
locals.

You all know the tent, it's very very large for 2 people and
excellent in the mountains where a rope of 3 could share it. Twin
vestibule, one large one with a window, also a vent and window in the
roof, (more than just a gimmick), 7 pole intersections, 4 main poles,
and 5th pole for the bigger vestibule. Easton Poles. About a dozen
and a ½ pockets on the inside, some of them quite neat, attachment
points to hang stuff from etc. etc.

It weighs about 4kg, have a look on the website. Everybody has had
this argument before. You can only go light if you like condensation
ruining your much needed sleep. I still have a single layer gore-tex
tent and you need to be pretty stupid to want to live in rain in your
tent. A real high altitude alpine tent is going to weigh more than
what the kids use for camping at the Coromandel at New Years. I never
used the Trango for climbing but between 3 it would be excellent
bombproof shelter.

It's a great tent, unmarked, absolutely,

Includes about 20 pegs, guylines, (you'd need 60 knots plus to
bother
with these) and seamsealing stuff, I haven't used any of this
stuff,
not exactly sure where you could use it, since I have used this in
very heavy horizontal rain. Maybe you could use the seamsealing stuff
to fix your leaky jacket.

NZD $650

Prices include postage in NZ.

You can phone me on 021 808 999

Email me on harlansmart@... since I don't check yahoo.

OK winters here, or at least it is in Chch.

What you need is a new gore-tex jacket :-)

I have got two Mountain Hardware Gore-tex jackets for sale.

Three layer G-tex with a full mesh and nylon lining and reinforced
shoulders and elbows, these are technical jackets with pit zips, a
spindrift skirt and a roll away hood big enough for a helmet.

There is a medium and a large, and both are black and red and are new,
never worn.

I am after $400 for each (they retail for around $1000!) but I am
happy to haggle a bit ;-)

Email me if you want to see a photo.

Hello to all, does anybody have an Avalanche Transceiver that no
longer gets used? or knows of somebody who just doesn't have the
time to give it the love and attention it deserves, by showing it
the beautiful alpine environment of this country?
Is it jammed in a cupboard/wardrobe not even given the chance to see
the light of day!, or maybe a second transceiver that has taken a
backseat whilst your new, shiny one gets all the attention! If so I
have a place for it! As a student I simply can't afford the price
of
the new ones but I simply cant afford not to wear one when in the
hills either. I will be happy to pay the appropriate price for an
your old/unused transceiver.
If you can help me access the hills please contact me at

Thanks for your time
