October or November who can keep up with it all. At least it was in 2006 I think!!!!

I would like to announce that as of 14:12 today the 5th of October the dynamic duo of
ROCK&CRYSTAL passed the lofty mark of  5,000  caches found.  Now if Crystal could just find some way not to work they might go on to the big time.
CONGRATULATION to a great couple!!

We would like to add our sincere congratulations to a wonderful
caching team on another major milestone. They epitomize the spirit
of geocaching and everything it has to offer.

always my strong suit, and since Woodchuck has been busting butt to
help us achieve our goal... cut him some slack... I'm wearing off on
him... and who changed the calendar anyway???? :o) LOL Thank you
everyone for the kind congratulations, very sweet of you all, and
thanks to Woodchuck for kind announcement (we had to share the
victory with our caching buddy). In addition to Woodchuck's help,
this weekend we were in Alamo, CA with Team Alamo (the #1 cache team
in the world, with 17445+ cache finds, and 328+ hides) and in the
middle of a bazillion caches. Truly amazing and like kids in a candy
store for us cache addicts!! Sure appreciate the help and support
from Lee and Maddy, and a great and fun weekend. We have 128 caches
to log, but right now the keyboard is blurry, so guess the logging
will start tomorrow! Thanks again, Rock&Crystal

Another BIG CONGRATULATIONS.  Let’s see…in order for me to hit 5K between now and the 18th I’d have to average 343.81818 finds per day.  Hmmmm – don’t think I’ll make it before the 18th.  Guess I’ll just have to settle for receiving a single small golden nut ;-)

Just wanted to thank everybody for their emails - we've definitely had a blast getting to the big 5K, sharing lots of fun and adventure with many friends along the way.  We also want to say congratulations to all the others who have made milestones as well - would like to extend a particular congrat to TRAKD.  He's sure brought out the competition in us and helped motivate us to go out there and get those numbers, of which we all know that this game is not about (LOL).  Looking forward to the NUTS event and to seeing all of you soon.

You know back when I was a kid we didn’t have GPSrs.  So we had to go out on the Internet and look up caches with Google Earth and hunt em the old fashioned way, dodging cavemen, saber-toothed tigers, dinosaurs and huge herds of buffalo all the while J

And it was a ten mile walk to school… uphill both ways and it always snowed….

Now go find that cache—you didn’t want to mow the lawn anyway!

They only cache that way because they haven't figured out how to load the caches in the GPSr.

I sold my old GPSr (GPSMAP 76CS) to get money to help buy my new GPSr (GPSMAP 76CSx).  So much for the old one.

I had hear rumors that, if you put your GPSr on the side of your truck and then smack it really hard so that it flies off the truck and lands face down off the edge of the road on gravel and old bits of asphalt, that it can cause damage to the unit. I wasn't really sure if that was true so, of course, I just HAD to test it out for myself. Sure enough - it IS bad for the unit! Chalk up another victory for the scientific method. My experiment proved conclusively that you can mess up your unit in that fashion so I sent it in for repair. I called Garmin today and they had already sent it back but UPS has messed up somewhere and it is now "rescheduled" for delivery on the 15th. It's somewhere between here and Kansas -- or perhaps they sent it in the wrong direction altogether and thats why it had to be rescheduled. Who knows.  I just know that it HAS to be here before the 18th!!!  I have to be able to find a few caches before the get together and, of course, there will hopefully be some evil Tanky hide to find as well.  I am going through withdrawals.  Maybe a beer will help. Even better, maybe 3 beers will help. Yeah, that's the ticket.........

However, I did go out and look for the cache without a GPSr.  You'll find my signature on the log sheet.......  :-)

I've been forced to disable my cache called Scrooge #2 - Cache of Christmas Past for now.  The nearby business complained to Groundspeak about people looking for the cache -- it isn't on their property but they didn't like folks in the area or something.  Someone has written on the log sheet saying "you ARE BeiNg WAtched Stop Now!"

Since this cache is necessary in order to find Scrooge's Strongbox I'll get it put out somewhere else soon. I won't have a GPSr until at least the 15th so it won't be before that.  Because I have to move it I'll probably end up having to archive the current listing and submit it as a new listing.  Sigh.........

If I do end up listing it as a new cache then you can feel free to find it a second time as it will be a completely different spot.

What standing do they have when it isn't on their property?
Honestly, who's going to explain to them the difference between
public and private property???
Why did Groundspeak fold in to this?
Will they start disabling caches at the whim of anyone, even if it
isn't on private property???

All I can tell you is that I was told by Groundspeak to remove the cache due to a complaint by a business. I wrote back and asked for clarification since it isn't on the business property. I was told to contact my local reviewer. I then contacted Krypton who said I needed to remove and archive the cache and that I could then appeal to Groundspeak. At that point I figured I was pretty much doomed so I've removed the cache. Below is a cut and paste of the exchange. Of course it has to be read from the bottom up and includes a prior cut and paste within the mail exchange.  I'll go ahead and archive it now I guess and find someplace else to put it. The complaint seems to have been lodged by Garry J. Wagner, Maintenance & Engineering Manager, Smucker Quality Beverages.  That's the fruit juice factory located by the cache. The one that makes the huge house fly and fruit fly problem for the neighborhood. I know because the house across the street with the big redwood tree by the driveway belongs to my son.

[Begin cut and paste]

A property owner contacted Groundspeak from what I can read.  Your next step is to remove and archive the listing.    You then can appeal this by contacting groundspeak .

Hi.  I received this message in my email:
=========================================
[Begin Cut And Paste}

Hi there,

Your cache '(GCRM04) Scrooge #2 - Cache of Christmas Past by Thrak' has been requested to be removed by the business owners where it is placed. Please disable and remove your cache. If you have any questions, please contact your local reviewer.

Eric
Groundspeak Inc

Ticket Details
===================
Ticket ID: HNJ-130175
Department: Geocaching
Priority: Urgent
Status: On Hold

[End Cut And Paste]

Can you please clarify this for me?  To the best of my knowledge this cache is NOT on property owned by any business.  It is located on the back side of a telephone pole. There is appx. 2 feet of space behind the pole and then a fence. The cache is on the street side of the fence and is magnetically affixed to the telephone pole.

Can you tell me what business is complaining and explain to me how they can claim that the cache is on their property? I am extremely confused............

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.

[End cut and paste]
