A discussion forum for those engaged in or interested in academic research into new religious movements that have appeared since the beginning of the 19th century. These movements may be or become independent religions (eg Wicca, Asatru) or may be and remain a movement within an existing religion (eg Pentecostalism, Hare Krishna).
Participants in the discussions should as far as possible avoid proselytising or polemics. Comparisons between one group and another are fine, but not denunciation of a group from an unstated point of view.
New religious movements (NRMs) may arise in virtually any religion, and discussion of such movements within Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and any other religion are welcome. So too are discussions of new movements and developments within African Traditional Religions (ATRs) and attempts to revive ancient religions from scratch, such as the various forms of neopaganism.
Members of religious studies departments of academic institutions are especially welcome, whether teachers or students, and people involved in related disciplines (eg sociology or religion or anthropology) are also welcome.
