Apologies all – again I've replied personally to the group email address without realising.

Cheers

G'day mate

Nah, Fork-taileds are occasional visitors up here, see them about half a dozen times per year. Biggest flock I got was possibly over 5,000 birds out towards the plains around Augathella in Western Queensland one summer we were driving through and for about 80 kilometres there were Fork-taileds everywhere.

How have you been? I owe you a phone call, been busy saying good bye to Jabiru and moving to Katherine in a fortnight.

Catch up soon

Cheers
Marc

Hi all ? a few sightings around the place over the last month or so:
  • Gouldian Finches (2), Owlet Nightjar (1) and Jacky Winter North of South Alligator bridge on Kakadu Highway on 6/1/12;
  • Bustards (4) on the Gorge Road, Katherine on 6/1/11;
  • Hooded Parrots (10+) and Common Bronzewing (2) west of Chainman Creek, Katherine on 7/1/12, even photographed a male and female inspecting a termite mound with a hole that looked like an old nest;
  • Varied Sitella and Red-backed Button Quail near Chinaman Creek, Katherine on 7/1/12;
  • Wedge-tailed Eagle approx 25k's South of Pine Creek on Stuart Highway 7/1/12;
  • Partridge Pigeon approx 10k's south of Jim Jim Creek 7/1/12;
  • Pacific Baza over Katherine East suburbs on 27/1/12;
  • Yesterday afternoon (11/2/12) counted over 120 Fork-tailed Swifts flying in a NNW direction over Jabiru township, very close to dusk, possibly to a nearby roost, some appeared to be circling back and feeding.
  • Been also getting a few Chanel-billed Cuckoos around town, particularly around where crows roost and possibly nest around the bigger trees in town.
  • Still many of Zitting Cisticolas (and Golden-headeds) calling over the South Alligator floodplain (Arnhem Highway)
Cheers
Marc
