Anyway, my point is it's not impossible these birds are new arrivals, but unlikely. Maybe they have moved from another location where they were overwintering due to disturbance?

Chris
Greetings Bas
Meg and I have recently seen three or four Pacific Golden Plovers at East Point and Nightcliff on several occasions, twice in early May, once in early June and once in late June. They all seemed to have some hint of breeding plumage, and given the frequency with which they have been seen, they haven’t departed. There have been about eighty sand plovers at Lee Point fairly constantly since April and up to 50 Grey-tailed Tattlers seen regularly at East Point. I can provide you with figures for most of the shorebird locations for each spring tide if you are interested.
Regards, Gavin

Subject: [ntbirds] new arrivals or summer stayers ?
Hi all
Yesterday 2 red necked stints on beach between Buffalo Ck and Lee Pt.
This morning at Nightcliff rockplatform: 5 golden plovers, one moulting from breeding plumage. Are these birds early new arrivals, or do summering (S wintering) plovers go into breeding plumage ?
Also 1 beach stonecurlew, 2 whimbrel, 1 grey tattler, 4 pied oystercatchers.
Lee Pt also has about 3 dozen greater sandplovers and half a dozen tattlers which I presume have spent the northern summer here .
At Knuckey's lagoons ( Snipe Lagoon) a juv. marshharrier. No pratincoles .
Cheers Bas
