If the delta part of the device is relatively short and it has a
longer rectangular wire and uses three spring loaded wire frogs,
then it will work with various pole lengths and positions.
However I've only seen the classical vertical switch under a
loose (weight tensioned) wire. The driver had to manually pull a
rope to pull the pole over to vertical position and then over to
the reversed direction. The same rope is usually used to hold down
the pole when the car is not in use and to place it back after a
dewire. The rope is attached to the pole and hangs down on both
ends of the car and can be reached from inside by opening the
front window. This method also works with bow collectos.
