Description

NOW is the largest, most comprehensive feminist advocacy group in the United States. Our purpose is to take action to bring women into full participation in society — sharing equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities with men, while living free from discrimination.

NOW is one of the few multi-issue progressive organizations in the United States. NOW stands against all oppression, recognizing that racism, sexism and homophobia are interrelated, that other forms of oppression such as classism and ableism work together with these three to keep power and privilege concentrated in the hands of a few.

The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has more than 500,000 contributing members and more than 500 local and campus affiliates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since our founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been "to take action" to bring about equality for all women. Both the actions NOW takes and its position on the issues are principled, uncompromising and often ahead of their time. NOW is a leader, not a follower, of public opinion.

The NOW Campus Action Network was established to empower young people at colleges and universities to make feminist change in their communities. Political, economic, and social forces still combine to deprive women of safety from violence, fair and equal treatment in the workplace, access to reproductive healthcare and comprehensive sexual education, and much more both in this country and abroad – so it’s crucial that young feminists take initiative to raise awareness about the persisting need for women’s rights activism, as well as lead the way in taking feminist action.

NOW - "C.A.N" is a FIU based affiliate of National Organization for Women. It is considered a "Campus Action Network" because members do not have to pay dues which the actual Organization requires.
