Hey all,
The Pagan Alliance Needs You! We're short volunteers on Saturday June 27th for
Donation Partnering, but we could also use you to volunteer for PRIDE Safety and
donate your hours to the Pagan Alliance. This is our biggest (and most
successful) fundraiser of the year. It helps us pay for the Pagan Festival each
may as well as giving us the funds to organize speakers events, the 2nd Annual
Witches Ball, this year's Children's Samhain (November 7, 2009), among other
things. So come lend a hand. Your last chances to get Safety training are
tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Please contact Amara whose note is below. ~~
JoHanna White, Pagan Alliance President
We get the really sweet deal of working the central donations booth, which means
we get a place to take a break, as well as to keep water and snacks. All
volunteers will receive a Pagan Alliance tee-shirt, water and snacks. Please let
us know if you already have a Pagan Alliance shirt or reversely, if you do not,
what size you will need.
The job is simple, but does require some on your feet stumping through the
festival grounds. For those who have never done it, what we do is send out
groups of two to three people with a donation bucket, rolls of stickers and
Pride Guides. Our job is to collect donations. For each $5 (or more) donation,
we give out a sticker that gives the person donating $1 off beverages all day.
The Pride Guides are free.
My role as a Donations Partners Coordinator is to manage the various and sundry
groups in my "region" of the festival, but I also handle crisis management. I
use the PA volunteers to fill gaps at the gates, in order to keep the gates as
covered as possible, so you may be asked to work a gate with other groups who
didn't have the volunteer turn out they expected or because the gate is busier
than we expected it to be.
We work in shifts, both days of pride. The shifts are: 1st shift-10:00 am to
12:30 pm; 2nd shift-12:30 pm-3:00 pm; and 3rd shift-3:00 pm-6:00 pm.
The more bodies we have working, the more money we make. We work mostly inside
the festival area, and are needed even during the SF Pride Parade. There are
certain times of day that will be busiest for our areas, particularly when the
opera lets out and shortly after the parade finishes. The location of the booth
puts us in the heart of things, near food and beverage booths (which are good
places to hang out with your donations buckets). We reserve the "in booth"
positions for those who can not walk around or those who need to be out of the
sun.
Pride Weekend is June 27 & 28. Please email me to let me know that you are
interested in participating, which days and what hours. My email is
revamara@.... Remember, the more people we have, the more hours we put
in, the better the pay off. Volunteering for SF Pride assures that the Pagan
Festival and Parade will remain a FREE event.
