U r absolutely right.
ECS came out with an objective to develop a number of fonts to cater its own database (the Voter List and National Data base) which
has mostly bangla data. To produce quality output and also to have a unicode based data base the requirement of Bangla font arose.
For the purpose the set of fonts were created by the name of NIKOSH (it is in bangla নিকস। abbreviating
নির্বাচন কমিশন সচিবালয়). The keyboard layout could be anything available in the market. ECS decided to
have these fonts available to all so that general people can use these fonts. The secondary purpose is to allow people and
organizations to continue research and develop more quality bangla fonts. The purpose of the converter is to allow people to
convert the legacy data (created with so many types of application based Bangla data to be converted into unicode based data).
The good thing of this converter is to convert the data (files, directories etc.) within a very short time which is an immense help to
age old bangla data to be converted into Unicode system (these includes Word files, Excel files, presentation files, some popular
data bases).
This group was created by, then the Secretary of ECS with Ashraful, to allow people have their queries, say etc and continue
to develop and solve such tools required for use of BANGLA in everyday life where ICT is involved.
Hope all of you contribute and keep on developing.
With best regards and thanks to all.

Nikosh is a set of Bangla Unicode fonts from Bangladesh Election Commission. You can use these fonts with any Bangla unicode keyboard interface, e.g. Avro. Til now Nikosh does not have any keyboard interface.
