Minobu-San Kuonji Temple Minobusan Kuonji Temple was established by Nichiren Shonin (1222 - 1282), the founder of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism. Seclusion in Minobu After his return from Sado, Nichiren stayed for only five weeks in Kamakura, where he had spent most of his prime. He left Kamakura with a few followers on May 12, 1274, and entered deep into a mountainous district called Minobu at Hakii in the Province of Kai (Yamanashi-ken) on May 17.
