This newsgroup is for all those who watch birds in their backyards in New Zealand, whether their backyards encompass some mountain retreat, an apartment in the city, the edge of a swamp, lake or beach, or just the usual suburban quarter acre section. It is an opportunity to share information, happy experiences with birds or to ask for help with the identification of birds.

Our neighbours had a large bottle-brush tree, which the waxeyes loved. Then the house was sold and virtually all the trees bulldozed. Hoping to keep the birds,
