This newsgroup is for all those who watch birds in their backyards in New Zealand, whether their backyards encompass some mountain retreat, an apartment in the city, the edge of a swamp, lake or beach, or just the usual suburban quarter acre section. It is an opportunity to share information, happy experiences with birds or to ask for help with the identification of birds.

Heard the first shining cuckoo in Greytown on Tuesday. Late I think. Usually get here by early November in my experience.

definitely a juvenile blackbird, as there was an identical bird in the back yard this morning.
