I thought this was an interesting
idea:

When the stock market opens, buy 5 shares in your
favorite company. Loads of folks are predicting a flight
of capital from the markets, thus destabilizing our
economy and creating a global recession. I would also
encourage you to talk to anyone you know who is a
broker/trader in the financial markets to stay calm. Imagine if
we could get 5 million folks to by 5 shares each.
What a message. The web is powerful medium to share
this sort of stuff with and spread the word. I
encourage you to do your part.
Anton and AliciaMarie who worked downtown made it
out fine. I think everyone else worked midtown for
example: Kim, Jason, Terrence, Elizabeth, Kevin B, etc.
Bill the cop we still haven't heard but he is probably
on duty. Jenn Schaefer and Joe Kovac of Staten
Island are alright. Those are the few i know of...anyone
else know???? post it here.

..no actually I went on a mission to find the least expensive bars to grab a
drink after work within a two block radius of grand Central... those were the
results!
Wow, my, don't we just know all the places now. OK, the wheeltapper sounds like
a start, I'll try that tonite after work.
fyi for those in the area.
Kevin, Typhoons on 54th is a cool place also a
micro brewry (off Madison)..that whole block actually
has places.

Also Inexpensive, yet right near
Grand Central is in the "Grand Central Hotel" the bar
is way in back and is called the "Wheeltapper"- kind
of a hideaway, and right at 44th and Lexington Irish
pub.

O'Caseys on 41st bwtn Madison and 5th has hot food served
at happy hour every day, irish pub real english
waiters, kind of a neighboorhood bar, great bar munchies,
very reasonably priced.

I have a little more sympathy for the situation and

I didnt get to hear the judges actual statemnets

call home can be so closed minded.

Precedent

Just to clarify, a federal judge upheld a Florida
law banning adoptions by same-sex parents. While I do
agree with Donna, in that I fail to see a serious
threat to society by same-sex adoptions (or marriage for
that matter) and there is no compelling legislative
purpose for enacting such ban. Equally strongly, however,
I believe the Court was absolutely correct in
upholding the ban, as promoting the morals and welfare of
the populace is inherently a job for the legislature.
Judicial encroachments on the right of our law makers to
make otherwise dumb laws is a far more serious threat
to society than allowing bad laws to stand. Our
democratic foundations are rocked everytime a judge strikes
a bad law because it is bad policy (although
couched in legalistic terms and principles).
So in
sum, bad law - good ruling.
I know and believe same sex partners can be good parents, it is as much a
challenge as being a single parent and no judge ever rules that out. the judge
is obviously ignorant and ultra-conservative.
A california judge just ruled that same sex
partners can't be parents (parapharasing)....among the
judgment ruling, that same sex parents can not be as good
parents as oposite sex parents

which is causing
furor in places like Florida
what do you think
about this topic
cool, glad to see someone knows their bars around
here ;) Will have to visit each one asap and decide.
I'd like a bar where we can get to know the
bartenders and really make ourselves at home. Our office
just moved up to 50th from Wall, so I need a regular
spot. Tonite we'll probably just do that local one
after the election, but next week i'd like to make the
rounds and find a home.
I agree with you Kevin. Previously we have held
events at Jimmy Walkers which, truth be told, I like.
If, however, we are fortunate enough to use the WNRC
for our meetings each month (every third Thursday) a
bar around that area would be best. If anyone can
think of something around 3 west 51st street (or within
a few blocks) for afetr meeting drinks and events,
please throw out the suggestions.
Look, I got this name a LONG time ago... and NO
there is NO story behind it...so I dont want to hear

a great idea. Also what i think we need is a YR
bar, that is a bar that YRs are known to frequent.
Much like this forum, itd be a place for some face
time over a beer. Any suggestions, my preference would
be around 50th street.
