The New Varangian Guard is an international historical re-enactment organisation based on the Byzantine Empire (9th - 13th century), in particular the Varangians.

Objectives of the New Varangian Guard Inc.

To provide a focus for people interested in historical re-enactment / recreation. The core area and period of the New Varangian Guard shall be the Byzantine Empire, its allies and enemies, during the 9th to 13th centuries A.D.

To encourage the study, experimentation and practice of any branch of knowledge relevant to the association's focus.

To create and maintain channels of communication amongst members, other recreation groups, educators, government and the business community.

To provide opportunities and venues for members to practice, display and teach the skills, arts and crafts that they pursue.

To make our recreation as realistic as possible without compromising safety, the law, or personal enjoyment.

Orginally, we started in Melbourne Australia in 1981, became a nationally incorporated association in 1994, and then started sister organisations in other countries in 2001 (Italy, UK & USA).

This forum is owned by the NVGinc Committee and it is monitored by moderators delegated by the NVGinc committee. Abusive or other unacceptable or antisocial behaviour such as spamming, flaming or defamation will not be tolerated. At the discretion of the moderators, such activity will be dealt with by temporary suspension, or removal and banning of the offender from the list. If so, the moderators' decisions are final, and no further negotiation will be entered into. Please also remember that this is a family forum, so no swearing please.
