Description

This group is established to provide a forum for discussion of ideas and to make announcements of upcoming activities at the Community of Mor Gregorios and St. Mary the Protectress Syriac Orthodox Church. Both are located in Plymouth, Indiana.

St. Mary the Protectress Syriac Orthodox Church and the Mor Gregorios Community Center are located at 1000 South Michigan Street, Plymouth, Indiana. You are invited to join us for the Divine Liturgy which starts at 10:00 am every Sunday. We at St. Mary's always welcome new members and visitors to attend our services and be a part of our Church family.

We invite all to post or ask questions to this list. All who would post to this list are requested to pause before sending any messages and consider whether the words they have drafted are truly in the Christian spirit, and to further consider whether those words may be misconstrued by any readers unfamiliar with the writer.

"We fly to thy patronage, O Holy Mother of God. Despise not our prayers in our necessities, but ever deliver us from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin."

The text is the oldest known prayer honoring Mary as the Theotokos, or Mother of God. It originated in the city of Alexandria, Egypt, which was once a great center of Christianity, and dates from about the time of the great Council of Ephesus (431), which upheld the practice of addressing Mary as the Mother of God. This prayer quickly spread throughout the Church, as Christians who honored Mary as Mother of God also looked to her for the protection of a loving heavenly mother.

This forum does not representing the official stand of the church and does not claim any official recognition of the church authorities, even though the Moderators owe allegiance to the hierarchy of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church under His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. Discussion is conducted in a spirit of love and humility, particularly when engaging Christians of non-Syriac Orthodox Churches.
