Re: Another one for Harry

Thanks, Harry! I must have missed the concept of hydroseparation in my cuttin'
& pastin' library, and that was all some real good readin'.

2 questions from your past posts for me:

"The last runnings of a spirit distillation contain the heavy oils or esters
that are not readily soluble in water."

Have you found a %ABV or cut to define what "the last runnings" is? I stop the
still at around 10% (or so) on low wines and 25% (or so) on the spirit run.
Would you say by those figures, I'm still pulling all those ugly, heavy oils
over? Or is the last runnings truly "last"?

Question 2:
I would have thought that anything over, say 20%, would begin to leach
plasticizers (and/or plastic flavors/compounds) from plastic
containers/spigots/siphon lines. Can I assume that this might happen in your
hydroseparation container, but off flavors/compounds are left behind during the
feint run? Or, should I say, is there any benefit to hydroseparating in glass
and using copper tubing to siphon the middle over?

Fun stuff. Thank you again.

I have to confess, I am completely mystified by this question. Are you seriously asking if you can make a still out of a plastic bucket?...
