DC Desi Summer is a progressive weekend leadership and empowerment event for
South Asians in the area who are 16-20 years old. We'll be discussing issues
such as what it's like being South Asian in the USA, immigration, racial
profiling post-9/11, and women's empowerment. It's free, as are all meals. Our
confirmed keynote speaker will be the highly acclaimed Vijay Prashad, writer of
The Karma of Brown Folk and Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting: Afro-Asian
Connections and the Myth of Cultural Purity.
More information and applications are available online at www.saalt.org (click
on the DC Desi Summer link to the left).
Our deadline is June 15th, and applications will be accepted thereafter as space
permits. We are also looking for volunteers to help flyer local areas in the
metropolitan area. Please contact Sonal Sheth with any questions at
sonal_sheth@... or 202 489 4598.
