Bonza film database
As a research project, students collect information on some aspect of film in Australia - perhaps a star or a director or even a film festival. Deb and Adrian have provided the Bonza database. The students enter the information as they find it. Then, the students write a hypertext essay, drawing on the research that they have found. Because all the information is in a database, they can also draw on related information that has been collected by other students. And as more students contribute, the database grows better and better.

Check your e-mail on the Web
Julie showed me this great little service which allows you to check your email from any Web browser. The clever thing about this system is that it will check any POP mail system - even through the RMIT firewall.

Quick start Web pages
If you are pressed for time and want to build a quick Web site for your students, have a look at Filamentality. " Filamentality is a fill-in-the-blank interactive Web site that guides you through picking a topic, searching the Web, gathering good Internet sites, and turning Web resources into activities appropriate for learners." Thanks, Julie.

Student quizzes
Some of the teachers were looking for a tool that would allow them to set up quizzes for their students. 1000 Questions is even better than that - it lets students set up their own quizzes. "1000 Questions about Australia is a project where students create an interactive quiz on Australia using various forms of World Wide Web multimedia." Thanks to Adrienne for pointing this out.

Sunrise tutorials
This is how I learnt how to make Web pages - simply coding the pages by hand. Even if you never want to do that, it is probably worth doing these tutorials, so that you can see how things work behind the scenes. - Jonathan

Usability of Web pages
Jakob Nielson has the best free information about making your Web pages work well. Every fortnight he writes a new column. Some of his best are "Top ten mistakes on the Web" and "Why Frames suck".
