Pros and Cons of 3 CD's or one in
GLASSELL PARK DISTRICT?
PROS of 3 CDs
Currently with 3 CD's 13,14,1 we have 3 votes in City Council or 20% of Council
If one CD is unnresponsive go to another to act or encourage other CD(s) to act
When a politician vacates for higher office ala Goldberg or Villaraigosa
CONS
Really our main accountable CD with residential votes has been CD14 soon to be
CD13
CD13 currently has the Rec Center and Northwestern border of Drew area, old
KMART area
Where Do Rec center constituents live and vote? while mostly CD14, perhaps all 3
being a
regional park/pool, community center
CD13 has been a GEM.... very responsive
CD1 has smattering of southwestern residential and San Fernando Biz Industrial
Corridor
Can bizes influence? Ask KIA of "Glendale" doing business in Glassell Park
PROS of 1 CD
One CD rep accountable with votes
strong voice for common interests
One stop Access
CONS of 1 CD
One vote on council
If unresponsive, or ineffective where else do you go?
When vacated for higher office , where else?
In the case of a 1 CD Community ask Eagle Rock.
If with other communities, with whom does Glassell Park have common interests?
and be best represented?
we have been flipflopping between CD13 and 14
Do we share interests with Eagle Rock,Mt Washington, Highland Park? as currently
in CD14
YES
How about Atwater, Silver Lake, Echo Park, East Hollywood? as in CD13?
some biz regional stuff connected and separated by the 2,5, and 101 freeways
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Who really decides CD Districting? Not saying our input doesnt count at all or
we shouldn't bother advocating but in the end its The Council themselves
wheeling and dealing
We just need to know what/who we got representing us 1,2,or 3 's CD, , and get
them to listen and act.
