1| Editorial - My N-Word Interview / It's Ma Burth day!
---------------------------------------------------------
Greetings!
Should the word 'nigger' be stricken from Hip Hop, or
"Black" culture in general?
What do you think?
Check out my thoughts on the matter at OnPoint FM!
This interview aired this morning already, and according
to the host was very well received! And will be aired again
this Wednesday, at 7pm. To access the interview visit
http://onpoint.fm/listen.html at that time. If the air
time changes for the interview I'll let you know.
I will also talk to the show's producers about giving
me a copy of the interview to archive on my blog for
anyone who may miss the interview Wednesday.
I'ma just waitin' for the hate mail from this morning.
Also, check out OnPoint FM, broadcasting live from
Greensboro at http://www.myspace.com/onpointfm !
The host - writer, scholar, activist, teacher B. Sims,
Ph. D., is new to the area, and is seeking interesting,
controversial and/or dynamic people to be guests on the
show (Min. Scott - holla at 'em!).
Visit their myspace and friend the show, let them know
how Carolina gets down!
If you want, you can also come by my myspace today to
wish ya girl a happy birthday...go shawty...lol.
Monday I'll be posting a "birthday mix" on heavymentalist.com
and my myspace for the music junkies.
OH! If you're in the Durham area next week, consider stopping
by Hayti Heritage Center for a beautiful Kwanzaa celebration/
nightly candle lighting hosted by NC superstar Zayd Malik.
Zayd, as many know in the area, has been one of the state's
premier emcees for well over a decade, and has also become
a respected actor. Come by and support him and all of the
other talent at this beautiful event! For more info please
visit http://www.hayti.org/kwanzaa
And please...consider this um...not a late edition of NC ACT,
but an early one for next week lol!
Peace.

CELEBRATE KWANZAA! NIGHTLY CANDLE LIGHTING (DEC 26-31,
DURHAM, 7PM) Kwanzaa is celebrated by millions of people of
African descent through out the world African community. As
a cultural holiday, Africans practice it from all religions,
traditions, all classes, ages and generations, and political
persuasions on the common ground of their African ness in all
its historical and cultural diversity and unity. Kwanzaa is
based on the agricultural celebration of Africa called "the
first fruits" celebrations, which celebrate the times of
harvest, gathering, reverence, commemoration of the past,
recommitment to cultural ideals and celebration of the good.
Nightly candle lighting ceremonies commemorate the first six
days of Kwanzaa: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self Determination),
Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative
economics), Nia (purpose), and Kuumba (creativity). Each nightly
candle lighting celebration will include musical entertainment
or performances by renowned local, regional, and national
performing artists. The event will be hosted by MC, Percussionist
and Lyrist Zayd Malik the week will be filled with dance, music,
song, and spoken word. This event is free and open to the public.
Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Food
Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina each night. Vendors
nightly. Zayd Malik of Durham, NC is a Hip Hop lyricists and
rap artists who uses his cultural awareness to help write songs
for the world not just the "hood". He is a poet, actor and producer
with three albums and winner of the Verbal Combat (freestyle battle)

UNITED FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE - NATIONAL MARCH (JAN 27,
WASHINGTON, DC) Tell the New Congress: Act NOW to Bring
the Troops Home! Join United for Peace and Justice in a
massive march on Washington, D.C., on Sat., January 27, to
call on Congress to take immediate action to end the war. On
Election Day the voters delivered a dramatic, unmistakable
mandate for peace. Now it's time for action. On January 27,
2007, we will converge from all around the country in
Washington, D.C. to send a strong, clear message to Congress
and the Bush Administration: The people of this country want
the war and occupation in Iraq to end and we want the troops
brought home now! Congress has the power to end this war
through legislation. We call on people from every congressional
district in the country to gather in Washington, DC -- to express
support for those members of Congress who are prepared to take
immediate action against the war; to pressure those who are
hesitant to act; and to speak out against those who remain tied
to a failed policy. http://www.unitedforpeace.org

SPIRITUAL AWAKENING - WORK BY C. O'MEGA BARNES (DEC 9-FEB
18, 2007, DURHAM) @ Hayti Heritage Center's Lyda Merrick
Moore Gallery. Artist Reception - Jazzy Friday, January
12, 2007, 6-8 pm. Refreshments and Live Jazz. Free & Open to
the public. After 30 years of service as a public school
teacher in Harrisburg, PA, Carolyn O'Mega Watson Fox Barnes
was blessed with a new gift for developing artistic "Paper
Sculptures". Viewers often comment about the spiritual quality,
vivid vitality and amazing uniqueness of her art. It wasn't
until 1994, when Carolyn experienced a Spiritual Awakening
and C. O'Mega emerged. She credits GOD with providing her
with the imagination and ability to use miniature scissors
to create art without painting, sketching or drawing. Prayer,
divine guidance and those tools have enabled her to transform
paper into beautiful works of art. Ms. Barnes has had two
shows at the Washington's Children's Hospital National Medical
Center and at Duke Children's Hospital. She has been featured
in Upscale Magazine in 2001, and was chosen to exhibit her
work in "Testament of the Spirit" in Chicago, a program
presented by Oprah Winfrey. Her work has been commissioned
by the President of Bennett College and Judge Henry Frye.
