Description

Our Yahoo Group is for all those who wish to share technical information about MW/AM mast locations and studio locations.
MW or AM signals are the Workhorses of the broadcast media. The ability of a 10kW transmitter to cover cities of any size during daytime is ideal for broadcasters. There are MW transmitters in use using up to 2000kW. These giants can cover continents by night.
Masts can either be straight radiator masts supported by guy ropes or in areas such as the Middle East and Scandinavia, towers are or were often used.
We have our detailed databases giving coordinates of every LW and MW station in the world. There are 2 databases - Current and Inactive. Also covered are Studio locations and Azimuths.
We are particularly interested in receiving posts from DXers who come across new sites of masts or studios obtained from documents or Google Earth exploration.
Please share photos which you have a legal right to use on this group perhaps from visits to MW transmitter sites. We would welcome shots of transmitters just as much as the masts.
We also would like you to share news about new stations and closures as well as about frequency changes.
The databases are constantly updated at source but we can only download new editions every 6 weeks.
You will note the frequent use of "-- 00 00?" entries. Here we give you an approximate location for the town containing the masts. This could either be due to poor map resolution or because nobody has yet spotted the masts themselves. Here you might be able to help. If you know where the masts are, please tell us.
Please use the spreadsheets (conveniently in 2003 Excel format) responsibly. We do not want there to be any use for commercial advantage.
We look forward to you joining our young and growing Group.
We also invite you to join our sister group SHORTWAVESITES. Go to the Links section and click on the address. Many antenna sites contain both uses so there is much collaboration between the two groups.
