Re: Nourishing Mukto-mona and Bengali Renaissance [morals]

I had always wondered, why Bengali Hindus have been inert to the
suffering of Hindus on the other side of Padma. Are ties of blood and
culture so shallow that in spite of them we are indifferent to the
suffering of our own? Finally I got an answer. It is an answer that
makes my chest swell up in pride. Thank heavens for the explanation!
No, Bengali Hindus are not indifferent because they are self-centered
people, no they are not indifferent because they are callous and
cannot look beyond their noses - they are indifferent because they
are a moral people. Moral principles prevent us from speaking out and
also from organizing ourselves to help these people. Yes, nothing but
the moral principle of the highest order forces us to abandon Hindus
in Bangladesh. What right, do we, the Hindus of Bengal, have to speak
out and act against the atrocities committed against the Hindus of
Bangladesh, especially when our Hindu brethren in Gujarat have rioted
against the Muslims? So, sorry Hindus of Bangladesh, we would have
helped you, we would have moved mountains, written petitions,
screamed out hoarse so that none can ignore your plight, but alas,
morals, our high sense of morals would not permit us to do so. So,
realize that you are alone; your cause might find support from some
immoral Bengali NRI's who pen reports highlighting your plight, but
no, not from the moral Hindu Bengali. You are on your own.
Now we all know that the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh were
committed before the incidents in Gujarat, what morals prevented us
during the time between these incidents? I do not know that yet, I
can only surmise, but, I am sure when they are revealed, they will
make my chest swell up with pride again.

So true, so very true, while we, Bengali Hindus, a people with high
morals, on the one hand identify ourselves so closely with Gujarati
Hindus that their misdeeds prevent us from coming to the aid of
Hindus in Bangladesh, we promptly abandon any connection with them
when it comes to any other issue, the reason for that, I surmise has
something to do with our sense of morals.
