With reference to my third question about the place of music in Islam,
I have found out a contentful discussion on the net:

Please look into it. It clearly says that music in general is strictly
prohibited and condemned in Islam except for few special occasions
like Muslim marraige where very simple form music ( e.g., drum-
beating in simple rhythm) is permitted for special purpose. It seems
there are strict instructions to the Muslim womanfolk not to even
talk in attractive way in the presence of non-mahrams, let alone
singing. [Mahram -- A male, whom a woman can never marry because of
close relationship (e.g. a brother, a father, an uncle etc.); or her
own husband].Even the Prophet (PBUH) condemned it to be as sinful as
alcohol.
