I found Mr. Ratan's piece a little too choppy and incoherent. Who is
Dr. Akimun Rahman? Where -- in which publication --did he make those idiotic
remarks about Begum Rokeya? There was another write-up on Rokeya allegedly
obssessed by husband-worship here in mukto-mona that was ridiculously argued and
utterly abhorent.
The quoted appreciation of Rokeya by Humayun Azad is accurate because
of his keenly observed reading of Rokeya's text. But even my good friend
Humayun missed the mark on his discussion on Rokeya's essay on Burka. That
little essay -- only three and half pages long -- is written with such superb
intelligence and underlies such a sophisticated understanding of the world --
the whole world -- that today's knee-jerk feminists and the Islami-pasand
hijab-peddlers will both be equally flummoxed if I were to analyze it. I will do
so in very near future. Meanwhile, let me thank Mr. Ratan for protesting
against this moronic Dr. Akimun Rahman's smart-alec statements about Rokeya. A
rule-of-the-thumb advise for all of us would be: Don't mess with Begum Rokeya!
She had all the 'Messers' all figured out in her slim but substantially muscular
writings. She is simply amazing!
Best regards.
