Dear Avijit Roy,
As long as the religion or faith stays as a personal
preference, the chances of extremism and fanatism are
remote. However, when religious force becomes a
political force, only intolerance prevails.
Christianity and Islam are political forces. Hinduism
was not a political force in the recent past.(I am
refering to recent past only. It was a political force
thousands of years back, but subsided to a mere
religious faith.) Now, hinduism is also becoming a
political force.
What we saw at Gothra and in whole of Gujarat is only
a sample to the future. Chances are, incidents 50
times to Gujarat may occur within the next decade.
True hinduism is explained in 'Brhama-Sutra'. As per
that teaching, there is no Sati, no caste differences,
and what is more, there is no God either. As per
Brhama- Sutra, God concept is optional only; Nature
only is the creator. Well, most hindus I met either
have no idea about this teaching, or only know it by
its name, without attempting to learn the details.
The few learned like Vivekanandha knew this well, and
his teachings mostly are philosophical, and agnostic
of nature.
Until all hindus learn this and explain to all the
world, there will be biased-secularists, fanatics and
extremists amoung hindus.
Regards,
Raman
