Dear Ms.Taslima,
In 1995/6 I had a chance to meet you at your brother’s apartment in Flushing New
York. You named your sisters daughter as Bhalobasha such a wonderful name which
I still remember. At that time I saw you as a fighter, a sharp woman with clear
vision with an indomitable courage to fight to the last. But I see you now
frustrated, freighted and broken too. Your life has become a challenge for any
one who believes in freedom, justice and democracy. Islam as a faith has been
sacrificed by the vicious mullahs and a Frankenstein of fear has been created
and the governments have succumbed to this evil. Some unscrupulous souls might
think that they have sealed your destiny but they are miserably mistaken. The
human spirit is not subject to their stupidity. India, despite its long history
of toleration and diversities, is a victim of politics. The politicians are more
interested in votes than values. Those days of Upanishad and Vedas are long gone
when for truth people were ready to give their lives. This is sad but like
Tagore I would also say that do not lose faith on man, it’s a way to surrender
to the evil but YOU are not born to surrender. Have faith in reason and justice,
now the fools are having their days but they can’t out shine your valour. We may
differ on your approach but you deserve respect and support. That's your right
on us.
Regards
Akbar Hussain
