Dear Ms.Kamrun Nahar,
I went through your poem and would like to make some general comments. Since
you are engaged in a Doctoral degree I would write like this.
While I have reasonable appreciation for your feelings but from the academic
point of view my reaction is as follows. Since your expressions are based on
global politics and the sufferings of the poor nations around the world
and the main culprit is the United States than what should be the plan?
Frustration or an action plan? Hegel wrote in his treatise on The Philosophy
of History that the universal history is based on three aspects.
A. Original history
B. Reflective history
C. Philosophical history.
Your subject is based on reflective history which is based on analysis and
synthesis. Synthesis is a logical conclusion on any subject of interest
which needs a specific solution. The job of an academic is not to complain
but to find out pragmatic solution. This pragmatic analogy is based on facts
and figures which helps a scholar to arrive at a decision which can be
forwarded to be implemented. Looking at the Hegelian investigation of
history we need to determine the root causes of your complains in the poem.
National oppression is not a new phenomenon in this world. Non Romans cried
against the onslaught of the Roman army, Peloponnesians complained against
the Athenians, The orient cried when Alexander the Great overrun them and
very recently the non Nazi world fumed against Adolf Hitler. All these
tragedies were possible because some people appeased the tormentor to
protect their petty interests.
The United States is just using its brute power to assert itself and the
vast majority of the lesser powers are appeasing it. This truth is apparent
from the Cold war period to this day. Do you think that issue of terrorism,
Afghanistan or Iraq would have been possible if the world was ruled by
reason? This river of blood you are watching everyday is the ultimate cause
of the invasion of Iraq? The Islamic world is in a mess now and who is
responsible for that? This morass can’t be fixed by blaming the United
States; we need a resolve at the beginning. The gap which has been created
by the lethargic and corrupted ruling elite of the the Third World nations
can only be fixed if they have plan not complains.
Poets and writers do have a specific responsibility in this regard. A
revolutionery Bengali poet wrote during the oppressive British rule, Khudhar
rajjey shokoli goddomoy, purnimar chand jeno jholshano ruti, in these lines
he gave a prescription for action and that was revolt. We need this resolve
not tears. And you are spesking of God? Who is he? Has he ever listened to
anything other than sleeping in the cloudy pillows?
