From Prof. Ajoy Roy, Dhaka
Dear Mukto-Monas,
The other day Afghan Ambassador at Dhaka said in an interview with a local daily that "Rajakar and Taliban" are two most hated words in recent time. Here is the extract of an interview given to Fazlul Bari, reporter of the local Bangla daily 'JanaKantha'.
Rajakars Vs Talibans: Two hated words
"You have Rajakars in your country so we have Talibans in our Country " -
says His Excellency Mr. Golum Muhammad Sukhnyar, the Afghanistan Ambassador stationed in Dhaka, representing the ousted government of Afghanistan of northern alliance.Mr. Sukhnyar is one of the 40 Ambassadors still loyal to Shaikh Burhanuddin's Government of Afghanistan. Like all of them Ambassador Sukhnyar has also been going through miseries and agony of representing an ousted government, but still he is courageously facing the reality. He has been living in Dhaka with his wife. Since 1992 he could not visit Kabul or any part of his country although he maintained some contact with Kabul through his brother who is still living in Kabul. Some time back his brother; an engineer talked to him from Pakistan. In this way through friendly third countries he could maintain indirect contact with his family in Afghanistan. He also expressed his gratitude to the well wishers whose generous help enable him to support the chancery and his family at Dhaka and continue the diplomatic war against the Talibans. Total Afghan nationals in Dhaka including his chancery members and his family will be no more than fifteen. There are few students also.
Sukhnyar completed his education in China where he also served as career diplomat. In 1997 he came to Bangladesh as Ambassador of his country after the fall of Burhanuddin's government in Afghanistan in 1996. One of his sons is still in China continuing his study. He named his son 'Mujibur' to keep his association with the liberation war of Bangladesh alive. During 1971 he and his few associates became involved in this war. They worked to create public opinion in our favour in Afghanistan. They also helped Bengali military personal and civilians trapped in Pakistan escaping from to India via Afghanistan so that these people could take part in our war.
His Excellency opined that there is a close similarity between the present condition of Afghanistan and that of Bangladesh obtaining in 1971. Talibans are the most hated people now in his country like the Rajakars in Bangladesh. They have no place among the common mass of Afghanistan. They are now fleeing from one place to another taking shelter in caves and mountains. They are trying desperately to hold on only in two cities Kandahar and Kunduz, but are sure to be eliminated from there also. It is a matter of time only. The Ambassador strongly criticized the Talibans and its leadership for ruining the country and defamed the country in the eye of the international community.
The Talibans in any form must not have any say or place in the formation of future broad based Government of Afghanistan. Because the modern life and Islamic State- these two are not stagnant ponds. And the Talibans were out to establish this type of stagnant society in Afghanistan in the name of Islam. They were bluffing the people that they were trying to establish a true Islamic society based on Koran and Sunnah. To the people of Afghanistan Taliban means a dark age, captivity of men and women, poverty, war and bloodshed. Once Afghanistan had literacy rate of 75% among the womenfolk. The Talibans interned the entire womenfolk in home under 'Borkha', The Ambassador warned that if Taliban style government takes over in your country it will be ruined; your garment industries would be finished as these industries are mainly run by women.
Once Afghanistan was a country of exporting many industrial products including textiles. Now only opium and wines are the only exporting goods those are banned in Islam. The Talibans earned this way and spend the money to buy weapons. They do not spend the earnings for the welfare of the people. More than 60% men are dependent on foods supplied by different NGO's. A group of half-educated madrasa trained people having no concept of modern state system or of advanced world of 21st century was put in charge of our country- 'what a shame', the Ambassador sighed. In the name of Islam they have been torturing the common mass and particularly our womenfolk. They were opposed not only women education, they did close down all modern schools. Because they were very much afraid of modern and enlightened education as this educated people will question the dictatorial administration of Talibani government. They used to measure length of beard with a bottle of Coca-Cola to give certificate of true muslimhood. These fools have no idea of unit of length. It is a pity that Afghan people fell in the lap of such persons like Omar Bin Laden, a fanatic businessman of Arab origin, and Mullah Omar, another fool, idiot and fanatically mad man. Under Mullah Omar, the self proclaimed Momenin i.e. leader of the faithful Afghanistan became a leading opium producing (more than 70% of world production) country producing 4 thousand 6 hundred tons. The people suffered, kept themselves mum for fear and want of alternative(s). When the northern alliance started marching ahead against the Talibans their barrier of patience broke down. There is now mass upsurge everywhere in Afghanistan against the autocratic Talibani government. They are now fleeing for fear of the people. But most interesting matter is that these Ladens and Mollah Omars is the product of Pakistan and USA Governments. They have supplied money, most modern weapons, and logistic supports: these two governments are the makers of the facist Talibani military organization equipped with most sophisticated weapons. ' The days ahead of us are very difficult. It would be a huge national building task from the ravage of destruction caused by the Talibans. We have not enough food for our people', said His Excellency. The ambassador continued "The entire country is scattered with land mines and other weapons. We have to save the nation from complete ruin. We have to remove those ravages from the country and make it safe for descent living. "
His Excellency opined that it is quite possible to form a broad-based government keeping Ex King Zahir Shah in front with all shades of ethnic groups of Afghan people. Because King Zahir Shah, who himself is a Pustu speaking man, commands the respect of probably more than ninety percent Afghan population. Burhanuddin is still the legal president of the country recognized by 40 countries and the UNO, whereas the forcible occupant of Taliban regime was only recognized by three countries of which two has withdrawn their recognition. It is only the so-called Islamic Republic of Pakistan still recognizes that regime and maintaining diplomatic relation. The ambassador said that Pakistan does not like northern alliance. Because the northern alliance has been fighting against the Tailbone demons created by Pakistan. Pakistani Government still has very much love and soft corner for Taliban institution and its leadership even under the changed circumstances. They are trying to bring in the so-called good faction of Talibanis within the fold of broad-based national government in the name of representation of Pustu speaking population. His Excellency categorically denied that Talibans represent the Pustu speaking tribes, "No, never". The Pakistan government very shrewdly working on it. In the same way USA, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajakistan, Iran each have their own view of the new government. " Yes, we are very much grateful to them who helped us. But our government must be formed, the way we like, by us the Afghan people." There is no possibility that different ethnic groups of the country will once again will indulge in fighting because 'we have learnt the lesson from past, from the history opined the Ambassador. ''We want to look forward', said Mr. Sukhnyar. The Ambassador expressed his hope that the future government will take necessary steps how to utilize oil, gas and other natural resources of the country. Because of the turmoil it had not been possible for us to correct decision in this regard. As a result we have regressed economically, educationally and in other aspects of modern life.
