It was quite unfortunate to go through the recent posting on Taslima
Nasreen in Alaap. I conclude and declare that this is by far the
worst posting in this forum. The article revolved around extreme
personal aspect of a person bypassing her contribution to our
oppressed women, whatever it may be. This attitude of attacking the
messenger ignoring the message is well known and well rejected in
enlightened world. At the same time it reflects well on the
intellectual immorality, dishonesty and bankruptcy of the writer as
well. I expect this is a one-time "miss" of the writer and the
moderator (of aalaap).
So simple a matter! Who stops giving insulin to his/her diabetic
parents even if its inventors Dr. Benting/Dr. Best personally were
drinkers/liars etc.? Who abandons the incredible works and
contributions of all those hundreds of philosophers/teachers who
sized and shaped mankind's progress for thousands of years, even if
they were/are personally "unclean" according to some "conceived &
set" standards? If we go through their biographies, how many of them
will satisfy the grammar of our standard today? On the other
hand, how many of those so called "clean" people made any ontribution
to mankind? Most of personal social/sexual values/morals of three
thousand years ago are changed to new parameters today. Who knows how
much of our "personal social/sexual moral/values" will be thrown to
den by people after three thousand years?
Sad indeed.
I know it very well that in response to this, some extra long cloudy
confusing postings are almost inevitable. I also know that in a
hundred years, the personal activities of Taslima will be gone with
the wind. So will be gone all these postings and Fatwas. But there is
every possibility that on the page of time people will look around
the footsteps of that little girl of Mymensing for only one thing; A
wild huge scream of pain against a century old demon and the whole
world could hear it. And she did it siting right in the mouth of the
omen, herself being a woman.
Ignoring all those attractions and comfort of established life she
started a lone painful journey in support of our oppressed
mothers/sisters/daughters, for whom many of us only shed crocodile
tears everywhere. May be she did some mistakes and blunders. But we
do not expect a Prophet out of her. It is utter meanness to use
those limitations to minimize her gift to humanity. We have seen
enough "Kil Marbar G (n) oshai" in the name of social
order and/or divinity, but we hardly saw any "Bhaat Debar
Bhataar" to our women. In every sphere we have hundreds of
traders/writers of human dignity, but who else in BD made such an
incredible sacrifice for our devastated women? Just tell me one
name! That is Taslima Nasreen, the indestructible name of BD, which
is absolutely impossible to bypass in any attempt to address the
oppression on our women. That is her contribution and that will
stay. All the rest including her personal mistakes, if there is any,
may be gone with the wind, does not matter. We may be ungrateful to
her now. The conception of a TS Hall, a TS Avenue may not click
today, but time has a mysterious and definite way of playing with
things.
Strange! Instead of personal attack, her contribution could have
been analyzed with facts and figures; unbiased conclusions could have
been drawn.
Please, let us exchange our views, but not with nasty words and
filthy approach, not with personal aspects. There is no end of it.
None of us is Prophet, we all live in glass-houses. Above all, we
are not enemies here; we are only differing in opinion.
fatemolla.
