Attention: Shabbir Ahmed
Dear Mr. Ahmed,
I am sorry being so late in responding to your posting "RE: [mukto-mona] BD election and its fall out" of 19th Oct. Thanks for your comments and the accompanying note ' Some mathematical oddity about the 8th Parliamentary election.' I highly appreciate your concern over the recent events of repression on religious minorities, Adibashis, and political opponents by the communal anti-social force let loose by the BNP-Jamat alliance. The cause of belated reply is that I have been visiting some affected areas for collection of first hand information. I am not the type of arm-chair critics who sitting from a safe distance view the inhuman atrocities of looting, torching of houses, beating of common men-women-children, enmasse raping of women (teenager girls, mid-aged ladies, housewives, even mothers) in village after village as '
sporadic' and non-'institutionalized harassment'. This myopic view is the typical one (as expressed by Mr. Dey; Jamatis will be too happy to quote him as it is coming from an Indian [?] Hindu rationalist) propagated by the Government in power. If raping, looting, insulting, damage of properties, extortion of money, destruction and setting of fire of houses in village after village committed by combined pro 4-party hooligans, well supported by the law enforcing agencies and the sitting government, are mere sporadic institutionalized harassment then I only pity those who contribute this view. I have to learn the meaning of the term(s) 'sporadic' and 'institutionalized harassment' anew.Your analysis of election result in which 4-party alliance managed to get two-third majority is in right direction. You have correctly identified the cause of Awami League debacle. I shall try to show it in my next article in a more elaborate manner - how this mathematical formula [%AL Votes % BNP_Jamat alliance Votes = 2/3 seats in BD Parliament] is executed with 100% perfection to install Pro-Islamic 4-party alliance to power by the 'non party-non partisan' caretaker government of Latifur Rahman and its ally CEC.
I have also gone through your earlier postings on BD election and Torture on BD minorities. I appreciate those because of your feelings for the molested humanity. I also appreciate the concern of Mr. Shirajuddin Shopon expressed in his nice article [ Assault on Bangladesh minorities knows no bounds]. You may forward this note to him if you so desire and convey my greetings of 'Shuvo Vijaya'.
With very good wishes and Shuvo Vijaya.
