Avijit,
Thanks for this excellent narration of how Bangladesh slipped into the folder
of Islamism thanks to explicit support from the ruling coalition.
However, I would like to know more about this issue from you or other members
of the forum on
(1) Why leftist movement ( Marxists) failed in Bangladesh while it has been
successful in WB?
(2) Why a significant of the Bangladeshi Left are overtly religious? I mean a
good portion of them believe in Islam and Marxism at the same time?
(3) This dual and dubious nature of Bangladeshi Marxists has to do with
failure of secularism in Bangladesh?
(4) What is the role of failure of production mechanism and capitalism in
Bangladesh?
My understanding is : cost of living and necessary goods are too costly and
beyond the reach of common people in Bangladesh compared to India. I was kind of
surprised to see the price tags in Dhaka in during my short stay.
(5) Do you think, FDI and creating an environment for investment is the best
solution for secularism?
(6) Why there is no movement from left coalition to put a stop on Madrasa
education?
In West Bengal, they are secularizing Madrasa education by making it equal to
normal secular education. Indeed, teachers are recruited through school service
commission and as a result 20% of Madrasa teachers in WB are Hindu. As the time
will grow in next two decades, more than 60-70% teachers in WB Madrasas will be
Hindu. There was protest to control the recruitment, but Govt is following the
constitution. Also resolution has been passed for no more Madrasa at Govt
expense.
Why there is no such movement in BD to stop Madrasa?
