Dear Fazle Hussain Bhai:
Thanks for your kind words. I work for the federal government as a
senior scientist. Financially, I am doing all right. My position
is secure with the Fed. My research facility was badly damaged by
Katrina's wrath. Therefore, I will be working in a different
research facility for 6-12 months. It will be a hardship to
relocate elsewhere but eventually I will return to N.O.
Fazle bhai, you have seen me as a youngster in Tejkunipara. You are
6-7 years older than I am. You grew up in Monipuripara and first
attended Tejgaon Polytechnic high school (TPH) before migrating to
the brand new government technical school. Perhaps you remember
Parimal Sir and Dinesh Sir. I attended the same school (TPH). You
used to play a lot of cricket in your halcyon days of youth. I know
your family (your brothers) very well. My father was a cultural
icon in Tejgaon who helped stage many a drama to keep the youth busy
in the winter months. I fondly remember our innocent days growing
up Tejgaon, which used to be a Shangri-La for all of us. Those bike
rides, playing soccer, cricket, Ekushey "celebration" in 1953-58
near Framgate (Hartal), etc., used to fill our days.
Coming back to post-Katrina days, I would like to express my sincere
gratitude to you for remembering me in this difficult time. I
received at least 7-8 offers for temporary accommodation. It is
wonderful that there are many loving people eager to help a fellow
man in time of distress. I am lucky enough to have provision to
take care of my familial needs. Again, thank you, Fazle bhai for
your generosity.
I am awe struck by the examples set by you all who wanted to help me
out. I will cherish this thought as long as I live.
Sincerely,
Jaffor Ullah
