A fascinating story and rebuttal indeed. I was chuckling away at Mr.
Churchill's comments. For example, his very very very fine distinction in
the "little Eichmann" comment was something which was, lets say, rather
desparate. I was speaking the day before 9/11 to my colleagues at Cantor
Fitzgerald, his "technocrats of empire". This only goes to show his rather
interesting way of looking at victims.
Secondly, Mr. Churchill, rather startlingly, moves between the state, the
nation, the government, liberals, republicans, himself, perpetrators and
victim perspectives. With such a thin defence, I am not surprised that he
got hoisted on his own pertard. Finally, about public intellectuals who tilt
at windmills. In most cases, nothing happens. Sometimes the windmill tilts
back.
