Mr. Taposh Dey:
"Hinduism is an ocean." Agreed. That makes the task of defining Hinduism so
difficult. What should be the basis of Hinduism-- the Vedas, the epics like
Mahabharata and the Ramayana, the Puranas, the Geeta which is just a small part
of the Mahabharata, all the teachings of all the religious leaders who were born
in India at different periods, or the various rituals followed here and there?
We see so many isms and sects within Hinduism. Even initially the great
religions like Buddhism and Jainism started as reformed versions of the then
existing religion.
Which version are you talking about? You are proud of the degree of tolerance
that Hindu way of life shows to others! Looks like your version tolerates
casteism! Does it tolerate persecution of women too? You have shown your respect
for Ramakrishna and Vivekananda! You have justified demolition of the Babri
mosque and the Gujarat riots! Do you realize how contradictory your remarks are?
By making contradictory and fascist comments you are simply doing injustice to
that version of Hinduism that is tolerant to other faiths and beliefs and sees
all living things (of course theoretically) as equal. The gist of this version
has been well captured in Rabindranath's Religion of Man, in many writings of
Vivekanada and the teachings of Ramakrishna.
We should be proud of what we should really be proud of. We don't have to
justify every thing that our own religion offers. We must have the spirit to
reject the bad things in it. This is true for every religion and its followers.
If everybody has the spirit to shun the fundamentalist behavior, the world can
be made better off.
