Harassment against Dr. Qazi Faruque Ahmed continues

The BNP led 4-party alliance government of Begum Khaleda continues its
relentless war against an individual, the Proshika Chief Dr. Qazi Faruque
Ahmed. Compared to all-powerful lady of Bangladesh with all the state
machineries available to her, Qazi Faruque is just a small fry. The offence
Dr. Ahmed committed is that he showed the guts of challenging the authority
of the madam PM. Faruque is to pay the price for his courage and defiance,
as did pay free lance journalist Shariar Kabir, journalist Selim Azad, Dr.
Muntasir Mamun, a history professor of Dhaka University and many others.

A couple of days before, following the day of bringing sedition charge
against the Proshika Chief (20th June) and his seven colleagues, he has been
shown arrest against two fresh cases on 22nd June and produced before the
CMM court of judge Shamim Ara Khatun. A bail petition was moved on behalf of
the accused. After hearing the arguments from sides the state and the
defendant lawyers, the learned judge, not unexpectedly, rejected the bail
petition. It may be recalled that Dr. Ahmed is already in jail custody
facing as many as 16 charges of which the last one id of sedition.

Harassment on Qazi Faruque Ahmed continues. Yesterday (24th June) he was
once again produced before a CMM court of judge Motiur Rahman by the
prosecution to show ‘shown arrest’ in another two cases of 15 cases filed in
a day against Dr. Ahmed by the Pallabi police station at the instance of
Khaleda_Nizami Government of Bangladesh plus the sedition case brought
against him on 20th June. Bail petition for all three cases on his behalf
were moved and as usual the court rejected petitions. The government
prosecution charged that DR. Ahmed is involved in a deep conspiracy and has
committed a crime tantamount to sedition. Of the other two cases of
corruptions one involves spending of Proshika fund for trip to Singapore in
the name of treatment, second one charges of misappropriation and spending
of public money in illegal way.

It is crystal clear that the government is quite adamant to teach a good
lesson to Faruque Ahmed. Can Dr. Ahmed withstand the onslaught the
tyrannical and motivated government bent to punish him? Only time can say !

In the meanwhile it is learnt that he has been admitted to BSM Medical
University Hospital on 22nd June as per order of the High Court. Thanks to
police authority for obeying the order.
