Re: In the name of law (or in the cause of Islam?)
In my introductory remarks to the above article, I had written: “For those of
the Muslim and non-Muslim Apologists, who claim that Wahabism is not true Islam,
I have two simple questions for them: tell us, pray, which is the true form of
Islam, if Wahabism is not its purest and true form? Also please tell us: if the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not following true Islam, then which Muslim country
on earth is doing it?
The above two questions are simple. Therefore, I want simple answers to them.
Any “beating about the bush” would be seen as the expression of ignorance,
afflicted by the germs of obduracy.”
I was glad to have received a response from one Ms. Feroza Begum of Dhaka. But
her response disappointed me as she has done exactly the same thing I had least
expected from a respondent, given consideration to what I had implored the
readers not to do. Instead of providing simple answers to my simple questions,
the respondent took me on a tour of Islamic history and civilizations and then
concluded that “The enacted laws in Pakistan in the name of Islam has nothing to
do with Islam, but those are curses of strong feudal and tribal nature
of society which Pakistan could not reform due to lack of committed
political leadership.”
Having come to realize Ms. Feroza’ mindset, I want to rephrase my questions for
her understanding and response.
1. In which way Wahabism is different from the Islam you, Ms. Feroza, follow?
2. Do the Wahabis not believe in Muhammad and Allah and also do they not say
their daily five prayers, pay Zakat, fast and perform hajj?
3. Do the Wahabis not have their male children circumcised?
4. Do the Wahabis not read the Quran and live their lives according to its
pronouncements?
5. Do they not believe in the Last Day and Resurrection?
6. If the Sharia Law enacted in Pakistan has nothing to do with Islam, can you
please provide me a sample of what you believe is pure Islamic Sharia Law?
7. Is the Wahabis’ understanding of the Quran different from yours? If your
answer is in affirmative, will you then please help me understand the
difference?
There are many more questions that can be put up for your consideration,
including those related to some issues you have raised in your response. I am
refraining from doing it in order to keep my response to your views short.
I hope you, too, would keep your response short. Your consideration on my
request would be appreciated.
Regards,
Mohammad Asghar
