We are a small group of children and grandchildren of refugees who were subject to the population exhange policies instituted by Turkish and Greek governments of 1923. We came together and set up an non-profit organization in Istanbul, Turkey with the idea of getting in touch with all exchangees of 1923 to be able to track our lost relatives and friends. We are determined to bring all the exchangees together to show our unwillingness to ignore what has been lost and forgotten through time. Our initial goals are to create a database where we can collect names of displaced people on both sides of the Aegean and track where their offsprings emigrated. By doing that we are planning to draw a map of emigration of 20th century in Balkans, specifically in Greece and Turkey. The data collected will be open to public. The main archives will be in Istanbul, in our non-profit organization's main office. We believe that forming close ties between Greek and Turkish people will contribute to regional peace in Balkans and will be a good example to other Balkan countries where the turmoil still exists.
