TENNESSEE HEAT FOOTBALL - MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS BEGIN JULY 5

The TENNESSEE HEAT FOOTBALL  program is an 8-man, high school football team for homeschooled boys in grades 9-12.  We now also offer a Junior Varsity program for boys in grades 7-10. We participate in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference. This will be our third season. Last year we finished in a tie for first place at the end of the regular season and third in the end-of-season play-offs. We look forward to another great season this year.

Practice sessions typically run 1 1/2 -2 hours. We practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday until games begin and then we will play varsity games on Friday evening and JV on Thursday evening. We currently have 10-11 games scheduled for the Varsity. The JV schedule is under construction and will be fewer games than the varsity.

We practice at the Hermitage Church of Christ in a field behind the church.

Regular practice begins July 5.

The cost is $250.00 plus the purchase of your own pads and helmet. If finances are an issue, please contact us and let us see if we can work something out. We do not want that to be the reason for any boy to not play football.

This is the only homeschool football program that I know of that accepts players from any umbrella school instead of requiring you to join a specific group.

If you have any further questions feel free to contact me at stevebates32@....

Blessings,
Steve Bates

I would like to introduce you to Youth Bowling in hopes of developing a ‘Home School only’ League. I have Met, Sponsored, and Coached many Home Schooled Children in the immediate area. I have been Bowling in the middle Tennessee area for the last twenty- plus years. Also, I would like to say that my experience with these children has been overly positive. Recently, an article in Bowling Proprietors Journal referred to home schooled children. It related how most school systems didn’t allow home schooled children to participate in their athletic programs. Also, the article cited some impressive results from a proprietor who involved himself with a local Home School group.
Bowling is and has been a major sport and entertainment.  It is now and has been the largest participatory sport in the past 60+ years. During the late 1980’s, there were over 19 million registered bowlers in the US alone. It is the most diverse demographic I know. I have regular bowlers from 9 – 90; general laborers to professionals; all religions; and all races are welcome You can see this in action by visiting the center on Wednesday mornings. ’ The Senior League’ (my largest league) has two in their eighties and many more  in their seventies and sixties. How many People can you name that play Baseball, Basketball, Football, Soccer, or even Golf at that age. I have at least 75 now and predict more as boomers retire more and more. Once you learn this sport, you can play your whole life.
You hear a lot of talk about healthy lifestyles. Bowling is not the most strenuous sport, but it still burns calories and makes you use a lot more muscles than a WI game console. It all has to do with what you put into it. I’m not the most physically fit 55 year old around, but I do live an active life.  Bowling is only one of my activities. I feel bowling kept me more active and active year round.
In interest to parents, there is an increase in the number of colleges with bowling teams in  the last five years. The NCAA has ruled that women’s sports should be as well funded as their conventional Men’s sports. It is because of that ruling that many colleges are looking at bowling programs as a way of meeting the goals set forth by the NCAA. Also, to put a local spin on this topic, Vanderbilt has a very competitive women only bowling program with approximately 60-80 participants. Other Tennessee colleges with bowling programs include: Martin Methodist, UTC, UTK, Memphis University, and others.  I will approach Motlow again this year to teach Bowling and possibly coach a team for them.
I am, to say the least, a bit excited about the Sport of Bowling. What I want to convey to you are the opportunities available from the sport that go past the sport itself. A well established sport, healthy activity for life, scholarship opportunities, and great entertainment for the whole family are but a few. I have many friends and experiences I wouldn’t trade for anything  else because of this ‘sport’. I invite you to come and check us out. If you have any questions about my league idea and or bowling in general – feel free to ask.
                                                                                Thanks for your time,

I believe it would be a good idea to schedule a 'first meeting',  to organize the league. Scheduling, rules, sanctioning cost, and parental involvement are the topics we need to explore. I propose a meeting on Saturday July 30th and again on Saturday August 13th. The first meeting is to just meet and discuss the league particulars. The second will be to organize teams and vote on rules, officers, and parental 'guides'.
On the meeting days, I will give 3 free games to the children (aged 6 to 18) and League rates ($2.00) for games to their parents. Also, before we start bowling, I will give a brief demonstration of the "four step approach" and have extra coaches available. The home schoolers I have been in contact with over the years seem to have one thing in common, being prepared. The 'four step approach', a great place to start, can be found on u-tube. Variations from the 1960's to the 1990's, funded by industry organizations (ABC, BPAA, PBA, USBC) are available for free.
                             Thank You,
                                  Kim Manley

Though Christian in faith, this is a group for all genres of music.  It will be a place to inspire, have your music gently critiqued, and also a great place to network.  We will be having special guest speakers at our monthly meetings, and we plan to have outreach concerts as well as more intimate places to perform our original music.  This is a group for people of all ages!  Our website is www.csgnashville.com if you’d like to see what we are all about.
