Hello again,
I sent a message earlier but it hasn't appeared.
I've tried to download Poor Cinderella ( bb_poor_cinderella.divx ) in higher
res and can't get it. Also San Francisco Scenes ( 20143.ogv ) ; can't get it in
higher res as well. What's up?
I tried to open the files I could download ( shown in brackets ) in iMovie but
couldn't. Any suggestions? Thanks!
      all the best, Peter

You need to right-click on the download link and choose "Download Link
Target".

Once you get it downloaded (ctrl-click), download VLC player at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ . It's open-source, free, and plays most content. Or, as mentioned, if you want to convert (which usually creates quality loss) MPEG Streamclip is a great choice.

MPEG Streamclip is a downloadable device I used a few years ago to assist with converting files off archive.org You may want to try that.

Hope this helps.

If you download an MPEG2 file in Firefox, it will open in a Quicktime window.  Wait until the download is complete (seen in the progress bar    on the QT controls), then use the File command "save as" or "save page as" to download to your computer as a .mov file.

I believe you need/are looking for the Ogg Theora video codec for
Quicktime, which is available at Xiph.org

http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/download.html

VLC Player should play this regardless, but with Xiph, it will play in
any Quicktime-based application: iTunes, QuickTime Player, iMovie,
etc. That should do you just fine for most purposes.

Cordially,
Omar

Have you tried control-clicking? That way, you can save to disk.

Betreff: [moviearchive] Can we upload public domain foreign films ?

Hi, I'm a Internet Archive's User:Soonpush and I was searching Public
Domain films produced in the foreign country only.

Can I upload these movies? : the 1948 British film "The Fallen Idol"
(also known as "The Lost Illusion") (US release: 1949), and the 1955
French film "Lady Chatterley's Lover" (French title: "L'Amant de
Lady Chatterley") (US release: 1959).

Films is listed as public domain :
"The Fallen Idol"
http://www.desertislandfilms.com/titles.html
and
http://www.profilms.com/publicdomain/index.htm
(as ''Fallen Idol''),
"Lady Chatterley's Lover"
and
http://www.panamvideo.com/pg2.html
and
http://www.profilms.com/publicdomain/index.htm
(as ''Lady
Chatterley's Lover'')

(If this link doesn't work, just copy and paste the link into the
address bar of your web browser)

Can we upload the foreign film (not from the U.S.) ? :

Foreign titles might not have a copyright notice, but still may be
copyrighted in their country of origin. Traditionally the U.S.
wouldn't recognize the copyright of a foreign film unless it was
registered in the U.S.. That has recently changed with the GATT
treaty. Many foreign works had their copyrights restored.

Looking forward for your answer. Best Regards

Hi!

Concerning the post by Manel Lopez:

At the bottom of the left-hand side of the IA page for the movie there's a
box called 'Resources'. There should be an option called 'Edit Item' listed.
If you click it, you will be taken to the Metadata Editor for the movie.

Look down a few lines for the Item Manager and click the link. You can make
changes like deleting your movie in The Item Manager.

 Hi,

I uploaded a windows media file, because at that time had not in another format. But I don't like to work with proprietary software or formats and I would like to change the file format to an ogg theora but I don't know how.
IA automatically converted my video to ogg theora and mpeg4, and may now only need to remove the wmv version, but I don't know how to do it.
Anybody can help me ?

Thanks !!

I have video that uploaded correctly, but the resulting movie is much shorter and of very low quality.

The original was in the Quicktime container with the Apple Animation codec, ~2Gbs.

Is there something wrong with my choice of codec, and is there a way to replace the file?

Thank you,
Zach Lym

It could be that the uploader, uploaded a video file and then deleted it - leaving only the lesser quality derivative files (MPEG-4s). Recently there was archive-wide re-deriving of files and all of the derivative were re-derived - meaning that if the original hi-quality file was deleted, there wouldn't be any files left...

Confusing, I know but you may wish to email the person who originally submitted the file to get them to upload it again.

To see what it should look like, click on the FTP or

Notice the add'l links for the actual video files. Not
much help, but at least you know you're not doing
anything wrong.

So there is this movie. "Last Days Of America". And I just can't
understand how to download it, because there are these two url's - FTP
and HTTP, but there are no video files in them, only some script codes
or something.
Please, I really need your help. Anyone?..

Hello,
I want to suggest to archive or create an online library over the new online storage system:

http://offsystem.sf.net

This is a small client, in which users can insert their media,
after the hashing process they get out a so called OFF-Url-Link, which looks
like this:

http://localhost:23402/offsystem/v2/application/pdf/5dca0dbcf990ab61be875ef7e9bc4766fc7e1601/1706310/77996e605fb9ad13d6612fd038a1264bbe503f32/6daea144990b0db3c89bf0baf59b3c3efdd73a6c/483553a760e3ac0046ec2b5a047388d43aaf739c/866e46c461c1bbc4ac6dbe000006e914034d7ba4/843eb3e5d8003571c5fb5eb130258cfd38a3d701/WikiReader_Internet.pdf

This can easily be added into any webpage:
Because of the http-Characteristic users even can watch the media in the
browser, if they are running the offsystem client in the icon tray.

See the links to some libraries hier:
http://offsystem.sourceforge.net/links.html

Would you be intersted to start a site for the pdf files as a reference model e.g. for the video
files?

Thanks for discussing OFF-Url in your library for Digital Media.
regards Mike
