... It's not, it's 4W for UHF and 5W for VHF. If you set it for 4W output you get just about 1.8A at 460MHz and a shade under 2.1A at 425MHz. -- Gordonjcp

Who told you 5 watts is spec on a UHF portable? What manual says you should aim for 5 watts transmit power on UHF softpots? Jeff

The only reason I got more excited over the Syntor X than the X9000 is because the XCat can be programed using a modern computer and OS, and under such control

The Syntor X and it's later counterpart the Syntor X-9000 are GREAT radios! Let Batlabs.com be your Motorola bible. They can be "Quirky" as to what head it
