MAY 2012 Mosaic Monthly Challenge
Voted most popular : A08 Congratulations to Lori!
Artist's Statement:

My name is Lori and I live in North Carolina, USA. This table and counter is a dream-come-true for my kitchen. The table is three feet in diameter and has an eight inch counter-top which extends nine feet out one side. The table and counter-top are a plywood and hardie board sandwich with a painted oak frame in which to nestle the work. The mosaic itself is ceramic, glass, stone, jade, marble, metal, marbles, misc... set in thinset and grouted with CEG lite epoxy grout.

My family was incredibly patient as I worked on this in-place for just under 11 months. I began just after the cabinet-maker left in May of 2011 and finished April 1st of 2012. I kept some plywood handy to 'level' the table when in use and not being worked on. The finished tiles look SOOOO much better than scraps of plywood and I am glad to finally have them uncovered! I buttered each piece with thinset, placed it, then pressed it with a board which spanned the table so it would all be level when done. I have many leftover mosaic bits and am looking for something else to cover in color now.
