Meg,
I have tried and tried to get into you blog site and it doesn't come up. I'm using the address you gave but nothing. I would like to do the object swap so how do I go about it?

Hi Meg,

Thank you for the direct link!! It looks like it will work much better.

Regarding the infrastructure......(I attended a community meeting with
representatives of the local telephone (government) company a week ago)
apparently the work has been done on our local exchange for broadband, but
there is a lack of funding to actually activate it. Then today I discovered
that what they have installed will only work for those within a radius of
8km of the exchange.....I live further away than that :-(. I am now
awaiting with baited breath for the federal budget to see what will be
offered for those like me to have satellite.....at the moment it is
prohibitively expensive.

When I mentioned to the local rep that I knew of somebody and mentioned your
location without names, he just shrugged his shoulders. There is a large
mindset within the powers that be here in Australia, that they really
couldn't care less about those of us in the bush...

Anyway enough whinging! Am looking forward to snagging all your wonderful
offerings and thank you so much for making them available.

Best wishes
Jane

Dearest Montessorians,

I wanted to draw your attention to a new feature I have added to the
blog. From now on, every Saturday I will post an audio clip of one of
the many songs I sing with my children in the classroom. It's just me
singing, but it should be a great way for you to learn new songs to
sing with your children. I will also provide the lyrics and any
special instructions for the song, such as movements. Many of the
songs will be in various languages, and you might find some of the
classics translated into Spanish. Hope you enjoy!

Check out the blog www.montessoribyhand.blogspot.com for more info and
to listen to and learn this week's song!

Take care,
Meg

Dear Juliette,

As far as I've learned, there are blank arrows for the initial presentation,
you lay them out as ask the questions to whom/to what etc. yourself. Then
there are arrows that the child can use for their independent work that
would have the questions printed on them. I hope that helps,

Sarah

Since you were all so kind and quick with the last post, I thought I
would try another question....
I am trying to make the reading/sentence analysis work and I have
printed what was in the file on the storage group (on another yahoo
group) for it. I am trying to determine if I need to print the info
twice because I can't tell from the pictures in the Neinhaus catalog if
the arrows in the boxes have words on them or not. Can anyone tell me
if the arrows in the boxes have anything printed on them?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Juliette,

I used to be competent with the sewing machine but now I am out of
practice and definitely out of time. Those fabric pouches look soooo
very good.

The following are some suggestions I have:
1) Use fabric and fabric glue instead of sewing
2) Use fabric and self adhesive velcro
3) Use construction paper and glue/staples
4) Use a photo album - I use the ones for the 4X6 pics - the cheaper
brands seem to have more room in the pockets. Currently, I have all
of my plant 4 part cards in an album
5) Album inserts - the 81/2X11 page is divided into half - you could
put the controls in top and the other into the bottom.
6) Pocket charts - school supply stores have pocket charts - you
could store your cards there and decorate the pocket to match the
topic so the child could ID what is in that pocket

I am sure that when you start to brain storm, you will come up with a
ton of other ideas. I took the dimentions of my cards and went to
different stores (craft, stationary, dollar stores, school supply,
container stores, etc) and looked at everything with new eyes...just
thinking of storage...

Have a great day,
Ahilya

You might look at bill holders, Juliette. I got one and using a glue
gun attached a small pocket of plastic in the middle of each section.
That gave me 3 sections.

Hi, I am new here, I am Juliette a homeschooling mom of three. I am
wondering if there is anyone with ideas about storing three part
cards for the "sewing-machine-challenged" like myself? I gave it my
best college try with the wonderful tutorial in this thread, but,

Any other materials that don't involve fabric or thread that people
have used successfully to hold these three and four part cards?

I think I'm just going to take down the sidebar boxes and leave the
"view my files" button so you can access the files. I'll do this when
I have a chance within the next day or so.

The composers sound clips are also at box.net under the "composers"
folder.

Thanks for your input!

I have a fast connection and haven't had trouble downloading the files. I always download from box.net, not from the sidebars, so  I wouldn't mind if you took them down.

Hi Jane (and all who have slow internet connections),

I'm really sorry it's a pain to download materials from the blog if

I have looked into using Yahoo for storage of these music and picture
files, but even creating Yahoo sub-groups won't work. Each music file
is about 3-6 MB, which means that I could only fit a handful of songs
in the designated Yahoo storage of 100MB.

I would like to hear from the rest of the members as to whether I
should take down the downloading boxes from the sidebar and just leave
them accessible through the box.net "view my files" button. I will
definitely comply with your wishes and take them down/leave them up!

To Jane ... that's such a shame that you don't have better
infrastructure in Australia! I'm in rural Mexico (and I mean rural -
nothing within 3 hours)and I have DSL! Crazy how things work.

Looking forward to hearing from you all,
Meg

Meg, I, too, have a slow connection. I've had no problems downloading from box.net, THANK YOU. I am wondering, though, if I'm missing anything. Are the sound clips of the 18 composers also on box.net? I didn't see them, but it could be that I'm confused (not unusual for me).

Hi Jane (and all who have slow internet connections),

I'm really sorry it's a pain to download materials from the blog if
you have a dial-up connection. One thing I can do is take down the
sidebar boxes that make it easy for those with a faster connection.
Here's why - anything that is in one of those sidebar boxes is also
available at my box.net account, which you can access directly by
clicking on the "view my files" small, blue button also in the
sidebar. The direct address to my files is:
http://public.box.net/montessoribyhand. I would suggest you cut and
paste this link directly to your browser to access all the files.

Looking forward to hearing from you all,
Meg

Hello Montessorians!

I have made several more music-related files available for you to
download through box.net on the blog sidebar. Check out the Who Am I?
cards for composers and the instruments of the orchestra.

Also, you'll find composers definition stages at the blog. I selected
5 of the 18 composers for this material. Happy downloading!

Peace,
Meg

P.S. If you're wondering why I am downloading more material to box.net
via the blog sidebar, it's because our Yahoo group space is limited. I
thought it would be better to offer the materials I have made through
box.net, while you all can upload your materials to Yahoo. If you have
photo files that use up a lot of space, you might want to consider
sending them to me so I can upload them to my Box account.

Jo,

I would make a separate pouch for each set of cards. The pouch
probably wouldn't be big enough to hold several sets of cards.

Hi,
I am wondering whether you make a pouch for each set of cards, for
example one for parts of a horse, another for the turtle, another for
fish etc. or do you put all the cards in one Zoology pouch?

thanks,

I'd like to hear any input anyone has about how to keep the different
stages of definitions organized. Right now, I just have regular
envelopes laminated (with a slit cut at the opening) to hold each
stage. Anyone have anymore creative ideas that might make the work
more appealing?

My 3-part card files are done in PowerPoint because that was the
easiest way to make them and keep them all the exact same size. That
way, my students can mix the different categories of cards and cannot
figure out which category they go with because of the size. They
actually have to think! The only thing I didn't put in the file was
the label of telling what category the cards are. Hope you like them!

I have added some files for the colour tablets, I made them with wood effect
edges so that
they look like the ones Maria Montessori used. I backed mine with brown card
then laminated
them.
I also have the graded tablets but the files are quite big, I don't want to take
up all the free
space! so if anyone wants them you can email me and I will send you them.
